Freaking heck a Fantasy Final Fantasy title! We've not really had one since 9 (for singleplayer that is). Though for me sadly I'll have to wait for an exclusive pc launch later. If I had £500 I'd be sinking it likely into a new motherboard and processor.
Which has mostly been my issue for consoles - nice as they are and great as some of the games are, every time I see one I think "whelp that could be a great few bits for the PC".
Do we have the full spec yet? I remember previous Playstations having small drive sizes on first release (the PS3 in particular was absolutely pathetic), only for a "bigger, better" version to show up 6 months later with a beefier price to match.
I have a strong suspicion we're looking at the same thing going on here.

Wouldn't surprise me especially as they are now using SSD drives which will put the prices up somewhat. Thing is with console games being easily 100GB and bigger (Red Dead is 150 I think or something like that); you really do want as big a drive as you can get. Espeically if you go for the non disk version and thus have to download games.

For me, it’s the opposite. Buy a new gen console, and I’m set for a decent number of years.

My problem has always been that I like RTS/Strategy games and they don't work on consoles in general. A few (Valkyria Chronicles) but by and large you want a mouse and keyboard.
Probably not going to pick things up at launch, but I'm in once there's a must have title for it. FFXVI is nice, but we're not going to see it until 2024.
Big surprise for FF16 being shown, I like the medieval take rather than the boyband-esque feel for FF15.
They are really pushing for the digital version though, given that its a $100 dollar difference. I'm guessing that in CAD, it'll be 499 and 599 respectively? I might hold off for the intial buy since the Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also being released on PS4.
Top game besides that for me is definitely Demon Souls though, I never played it back when it released so I'm definitely hyped to try out the remake.
Good thing for newcomers is that your PS plus sub is going to give access to a majority of the exclusives from PS4, basically their attempt to answer Xbox's Gamepass, so if you didn't ever play PS4 but wanted exclusives like Bloodborne or Persona 5, now's not a bad time.
Hmmmm. That only sounds "adequate" right now, meaning it's probably going to be squeezing things a year down the line.
I have to admit, I've never really been one to be tempted by Playstations (the PS3 I do have is basically functioning as a Blu-Ray player and occasional Buzz machine).

Huh. I'm confused now. The PS5 games reveal was about 3 months ago (June 10th or 11th), and listed a lot more games. But I remember Oddworld, Ratchet & Clank, Deathloop, Resident Ebil and Spiderman. And a bunch of other stuff.
They didn't have a price at the time, but a lot of these reveals... aren't. Except the FF.
Though honestly the Xbox game reveal (2 months ago) had a lot more interesting titles, especially since most will be crossover with PC releases.
Smyths put a batch up at 23:20 which sold out in 15 minutes I got 1 of those they put a 2nd batch up at midnight. GameStop had them up at 23:00 but I prefer Smyths as I work near one plus it looks like GameStop May have oversold them as they’ve been doing unofficial preorders for months and now they are charging €50 just to register your interest for later waves.

I'm a bit confused by this as X, XII, XIII, and XV were all single player, and that isn't counting continuations like X-2 or Lightning Returns.
Yes but they were all soft post apoc/airshippunk/futuristic etc... That's why I put the extra fantasy in. This one looks to be a more pure fantasy setting with knights, swords, magic and no robots. OF course who knows by the end there might be aliens and robots and such.
Note one might class FF 9 as "airship punk" but considering that they fly with gas rather than lots of the technology that 12 shows off I think makes them subtly different setting wise.
I want for demon souls ,but 70 quid for a remake yikes...
I have always had PlayStation but I already have game pass on pc and its great so a xbox series x is very tempting without the need to spend 70 quid on a 1st party title when I can get it as part of the subscription.
The price on Demon's Souls is odd I thought €80 was going to be the new norm for PS5 games but Smyths put Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad up for preorder for €65 each. I preordered both to get that price in case it goes up later, I can always cancel depending on reviews.
I can't decide if I want Demon's Souls or Miles Morales for launch. Assassins Creed is always my Christmas/new years holidays game.
Here's a side by side comparison of the PS3 and PS5 Demon's Souls

You may want to double-check that preorder, if you've already paid that price, and confirm it's a full order and not a "deposit" or similar... and also what your rights are for cancelling after release.

Smyths don't take a penny until 1 or 2 days before the game is available and you can cancel at anytime. If you don't collect the game within 3 days they cancel and refund - the preorder holds the price - there's no downside. The PS5 I preorder doesn't have to be paid for until November 18th no deposit at all just a preclearance on the credit card.
After having been colossally disappointed with X-Box One for the last 7 years, I'll definitely be going Sony this go around but absolutely not at launch. $500 USD is gonna be like $650 CDN, and that is just too rich for my blood. I'll likely be buying in when they inevitably release the slim version of the system. On a related note, I'm really hoping we don't get any 'mid-gen' upgrades ala X-Box One X/PS4 Pro. That needs to never happen again.

Apparently the disc-less version of the PS5 is 499 CAD which is lower than I thought it would be, but the one with the disc does cost 625 CAD. They're reaaaaally trying to push digital only because I want the disc-reader included but not by THAT much.

That's good to hear! ...for a moment I wondered why they would drop the price so early if they can't use your cash to gain interest and cashflow in the meantime. But I suppose a sale with lower profit is still a sale that didn't go to a competitor.

Come to think on it , I have a gaming pc and Microsoft said everygame also coming to pc , so why bother buy an xbox, leaving the ps5 as my only choice.

Not really... you also have the choice I've made. Stick with the PC and give both the XBox and PS5 the cold shoulder.

Robots and such are a tradition even in the classic games (for instance, the tower in IV). But the overall setting was fantasy.
I think the success of XIV has caused some reevaluations of the franchise at Square-Enix. As you noted, X, XIII, and XV (which was originally supposed to be an off-shoot of XIII) were all kind of off doing their own thing with post apoc or straight up science fiction (my recollection of XII is that it's still primarily a fantasy game, and in fact had strong influences from the MMORPG XI). XIV, when it was released, was originally aiming to get away from the traditional ideas that the franchise popularized, to the point where the traditional classes all had unfamiliar names. Instead of calling the spear class a "dragoon", it was a "lancer". Black and white mages were gone, and replaced with the weird "conjuror" and "thaumaturge" (which went through some *huge* changes after Yoshi P. took over development). And then the initial roll-out of XIV flopped disastrously, and the fixes done by Yoshi included - in many ways - returning the game to its stylistic roots.
The feedback on that has been incredibly positive.
I'm guessing that the higher-ups at Square-Enix have noticed.
I need to see the full specs for all 4 consoles, the basic lv price for the games(both disk and digital since digital is more expensive then disk, atleast on ps4) and the price for the accessories.
"low price" on the machines themselfs means nothing if all the other prices are going up.
