Hello!
I have a simple question, is the game worth buying? I've read some mixed opinions on it. It's currently going for 39.99 euros.
I have to say I didn't follow this and only noticed it was out just now. Don't know a lot about it other than it's somewhat like the mordheim video game. Is this correct?
I used to play a lot of old school tabletop necromunda and ash wastes, haven't played the newer edition yet.
Oh yes, I'll be playing it on ps4. Yes I know, I'm a peasant
Sorry if this jas been discussed before here, a quick search on dakka didn't lead anywhere.

I think the best thing to do is read the reviews on Steam. It’s pretty much split between people who think it’s worth buying and people who think it’s not worth buying.
I bought the game a day or two after launch. I’ve only made it as far as Chapter 4 but from what I’ve seen I do like the game. Sure, there are bugs, and some of the mechanics are questionable. Overall though I am enjoying it and think the production values are good.
Have you played Mordheim? From what I’ve heard it gives you a pretty good idea of what you are getting into. I haven’t played Mordheim so can’t compare.

Watch some videos of it on YouTube.
Airsick Hydra and Ajnet on Occassion both have quite a few gameplay videos and they're quite enthusiastic about the game.
And despite that it also looks like clunky, slightly big mess with a lot of problems. Unfortunately a LOT like the Mordheim game by the same studio.
It's also missing half the base factions and uses a terrible set of game mechanics they just made up for these games. It basically doesn't matter what you're using, from lascannon or plasma pistol to crowbar or autopistol, killing someone takes about four solid attacks.
Necromunda looks a bit prettier than Mordheim, but other than that it feels just as bad. Lots of weird stuff. Despite loads of catwalks, you can't fall, because you can't end your move on destructible terrain or near interactable objects- the characters are just teleported away. Game info and what abilities do is buried under layered submenus, which is just terrible UI design. Even basic attacks involve opening a menu first.
I would definitely not buy it.

Wait until they patch it a couple more times. The AI sucks, and there's save corruption problems. I had my save corrupt after a crash and lost all my campaign progress and my gang operations. Game is a hot mess at the moment.

This makes me sad, because I've been eyeing up both this and the tabletop Necromunda recently, and was hoping the game would be really good and hook me into the setting. Trouble is, if I pick up the tabletop game now, I won't have anyone to play it against.
*sigh* Back to waiting for November and Cyberpunk 2077 again I guess...!

If you want a digital boardgame done right, check out Gloomhaven. They just recently added Co-op, and the game looks amazing and plays _right_.
Not ridiculous fiddling with mechanics, nigh mandatory overpowered skills, cut content or utterly dreadful cameras or UI.
its still early access and unfinished, but it blows this hack job of Necromunda away.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll hold off on buying for a while. Ill follow closely for updates though. I still hope this can be a good game with the right support.
At least pubg was free for ps plus gamers, so that's something

I have about 50 hours in the game and have it on PS4 and PC and the art book and completed the story (15 missions)
Pros
It looks and feels wonderful - its recreates many many of the old and current invovations and imagery -from the look of the gangs and weapons to the backgrounds.
The maps you fight on feel big and feel like the Underhive, plenty of variety and options on them
The maps have lots of ways of getting around them quikcly via zip wires and lifts.
The story is good fun and gives a good feel for the different Houses and the Guilders.
:Lots of fun options for customising in terms of looks, style and play style
Cons
The AI is.....awful - its seems to have improved recently as I am running a higher level gang but it does suffer from pure stupidity as the AI.
Watching a single AI ganger run aimlessly round and round the map, chuck grenades at the wall in front of them and then kneel down near one of your gnagers - is bad. Seeing for the twentith time is worse.
IF you save during the last mission its vritually impossble to win as it resets a key element and reinforcements just keep coming.
Unsure
You can see everyone at all times everywhere - I did like Mordheims only see them if one of your people could actually see them. But it does make tactically play

It does look amazing and the story is entertaining enough. The weapons all seem a bit tepid though. I can see why tvey did it to stop it being too easy to one shot kill stuff, while keeping the player engaged as if they are actually contributing. I think i would have preferred it if it was much harder to hit but the weapons did more when they hit. Also i still dont know if skills are worth using, compared to smashing another round of fire into a target.
The AI just seems to spend its time sprinting about and roaring. Why do they roar when going into overwatch? Why!?

I started on Laser Squad on the zx spectrum before xcom was even a thing. I would prefer a game that was harder to hit, but leads to the need for tactical positioning. Adding in a suppression mechanism that actually feels debilitating would be nice too. Necromunda just leads you to dropping your whole team around one enemy at a time to smash them flat and then tanking the random shouting and return fire. Everyone can move so much that cover seems to me to be less than useful.

Yeah the grunting and roaring is...wierd. Be happy if that disapeared.
Crits can be nearly one shot kills - hit and been hit with 2hD melee weapons for more than 130 damage (most gangers have 200) and same with Boltgun shots - was hit by one for 180!

I've played up until the mission where your Goliaths have to drop some chests of stuff on a flatbed after getting off the train.
Which was all going well, but then I ran into one of The Bugs.
Oh, god, The Bugs. The patch then didn't turn up on the Xbone for about a month after everywhere else, at which point I was really quite narked with the game and had moved on . I'll come back to it - it's not without merit - but the main thing it made me do was build and paint a LOAD of real Necromunda scenery. It properly looks like the Underhive should.
The impact vs. accuracy thing is a very odd tradeoff. I suspect it's like that for multiplayer, to make it much less punishing to end up out of position. Your ganger might take half a dozen lasbolts to the head, but that can be taken as a warning that you need to move rather than the end of your fighter, unlike in X-com where if you're out of place when a Muton pulls a heavy plasma rifle on you, you can kiss your torso goodbye. Whether this is better than seeing half a dozen lasbolts ping off the crate your ganger is hiding behind and doing no damage is a bit of a matter of taste.
I _think_ it averages out - you've got roughly the same chance of taking a target out overall - but it means the weapons feel like they lack heft. Especially any flame/chem throwers. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also - the Van Saar DLC is coming out. I'll finish the base game before I consider if I want that.

I just went for the DLC and tried out the gang mode with the newly electronicised Vortices . It now makes much more sense as you can properly trick your gangers out and choose what to arm them with. You can also loot all the corpses of the enemy gang and you can keep the stuff you nick. I tried that in the single player take and was most put out when you lose it all and just get preset kit in the next mission.
In the single player campaign I got to one of the last missions but it all got too stressful so I haven't played it in a while. I think I'll wail on some PBI AI mooks with my new gang and see if it piques my interest again.

The van saar dlc is more a cosmetic pack than anything. Also a lot of the cool options like gas mask/eyegear required you to have completed the campaign. Which on ps4 I had difficulty due to corrupt saves. Hopefully this has been fixed by now, but this game is so inherently unfun i'm not sure it's worth slogging through 14-15 missions. I honestly bought this game for the multiplayer. But with the player count so low and likely never recovering this game just doesn't seem worth the time.

I've got this on a watch list for the PS4 in case it ever goes on sale. I like the sound of it, but £30+ is too much for a digital download for me (I like to always play games and then sell them on afterwards) - especially in case I don't like the game, as I thought Mordheim was pretty awful.

We tried out some multiplayer Skirmish last night. It worked!
Until it crashed!
Horribly!
Aaaaaaanyway, it seems rather more fun than the campaign, and looks like a human team vs. an AI team could have some fun co-op possibilities.
