Once again, I had a really hard time narrowing my votes down. Most of my votes went to models that looked old and worn, with some going to models with nifty glow effects (something I'm trying to master).

Nevelon-- you achieved a lovely, clean black. I think the red could have used more distinct highlights, though.

queen-annes-revenge-- You somehow made purple seem threatening. Also, I love the swordblade.

MobileSuitRandom-- I like that blue and green color palette.

maxwin-- The muted colors really sell the age of the model. The off-white seems a little washed out, however.

Arakasi-- as I wrote on your P&M blog, your corroded metal really pops.

Whittlesey40k-- I think you wrote that you still had some work to do on this model. It looks like a fine start so far.

Jamie Shred-- a nice, cohesive unit. You might try leaving some white either above or below the pupils so the eyes don't look quite so feline.

Mothsniper-- love the glowy effect

Turaxa-- That was a gachapon model, right? That must have been difficult to work on.

Freya-- another nice set of Space Wolves. Another nice example of glowy stuff. The faces seem really serene compared to the usual screaming marine faces.

Pariah Press-- nice work on a very, very old model.

ms07b3-- You made this guy's armor look thoroughly lived in.

Viterbi-- I like how you did the face-- she looks really determined to hit what she's shooting at.

416_SpaceWolves-- These guys look like they just rode out of the ash wastes. The horses could use some cleanup/touchup.

endtransmission-- your yellow is really excellent. It contrasts nicely with the blue/green on Hastur.

Total-- A nice, clean model. The feehand skull and the hazard stripes are particularly well done.

DrGiggles-- I wish I could highlight metallics that well.

Vejut-- He looks like he just walked out of a papyrus scroll. Bonus points for the square base.

jb1981-- Nice work on the edge highlighting. I can never seem to make myself go that bright when I do them.

Chris56-- I love those crystal blades.

Deadshot-- I'm impressed that you kept that model so cohesive, given just how busy it is.

Yorkright-- That's nice glowy scythe. I like how you alternated the highlights.

DJJazzyJeff-- Your cool diorama tells a little story-- There's something to see no matter which angle you look from.

Don Qui Hotep-- The striations on the pecs and delts really sell the size and power of the model

nintura-- it's unusual and refreshing to see reds on necrons rather than greens.

Salabasama-- it looks like that guy has kept fighting long after he died. Nice work.

ZenBadger-- I can't believe you highlighted all the plating. You have the patience and brushcontrol of a saint.

Captain Brown-- that's a nifty piece of terrain. The foliage really sells the age.

lifeafter-- "Do you feel lucky?" A delightfully characterful model.

Maharg-- simple and effective. I like the superheated sword.

DV8-- Stunning. I like the graffiti and the boxy little robot in particular.

Pneumo-- This guy looks decayed but not gross, which is unusual for a deathguard model. Very nice.

Ezki-- a very clean model, as one might expect of the Eldar. The starfields are particularly nice.

Paradigm-- You achieved a very John Blanche-ey palette with these guys.

Midget Gems-- A solid unit. They'd be at home in a lot of skirmish systems.

Modock-- Somehow you tied all those primary colors together. Very impressive.

feltmonkey-- This model looks aged but not gribbly. Very nice.

Great work all around, everyone. You inspire me to push myself with all this great work.

Now showing a Saint and a Sinner, and also some Ghost Archipelgo Tribal warriors!

Woosh another really tough one to throw three votes for. In no particular order (except the order they're listed in):

QAR - Emperor's Children

Lovely execution on one of my favorite legions! I love the colors on this piece, and that face staring me down! I particularly love the subtle reflection of his armor in the blade, and I wish you'd carried that subtly over the rest of the piece (his boots reflecting a bit in the marble, and the marble reflecting a bit in the armor). I also feel like the top of his blade should carry some reflection from the vambrace, and probably be brighter near the blade reflecting the color of the ground. Also, ya gotta tweeze that hair string from his head, man!

Paradigm - Nighthaunts

I really love the grungy, dirty feel that these guys have. The various pink and red tones really make them look fleshy and while there are technical things in terms of paint application that I think could probably be tightened up, there's no denying that there's a definite story and narrative here.

Feltmonkey - Plague Drone

Call it weathering bias given my entry for this month, but the rust effects you've achieved on this are just money. I think there could be a little more contrast both in colors and values between the base and the drone itself, but this is a wonderful piece!

Honorable mentions

Modock - Zondnautica Remote

Great piece, and in your typical clean, crisp style. The base does stick out to me a bit though, as always the chunky edge cuts, and then the plating does'nt quite fit with how it's cracking up and weathered at his feet. I feel like the weathering should carry over more to the rest of the plates.

Chris56 - Khrunk

There's a lot to love here, and I wish you were able to complete this fully. The skin, the weathering on his armor (especially the teeth color), and his crystal blade are lovely. I do not, however, like the bright lime green (although I'm unsure if this is a finished piece, as the plates especially look unrefined compared to other parts of him).

Total - Iron Warriors Chaos Dreadnought

I love how clean the freehand is on this piece. There's a solid foundation in terms of techniques and execution. Given how much of this piece is just silver, though, I think you can really take this up a notch by throwing in a lot of color nuance, something easily done with some washes and taking advantage of weathering, especially given the environment you're suggesting he's in with his base. Still, it's a great piece.

Congratulations to everyone who finished a piece for this! I say it every month, but y'all are winners for sticking with it and always getting something done!

I did take some other photos with it removed (some of the others here) but the head on photo wasn't as good and I was too lazy to get my lightbox out again...

QAR - your dandy is quite dandy. Definitely a top notch paint job good sir!

Modock - for the life of me I can't see why you don't have more votes... I love your color scheme. Very striking and thats some of my favorite kind of painting.

DV8 - the sheer amount of work and love you put into this definitely deserves 1st place imo. Well done.

Feltmonkey - definitely one of my favorite models of the group. Made it look very grim and dark which is something I'm leaning towards lately. Fantastic.

The grim darkness of far Fenland

Well done everyone. Some great entries this month.

Some of those I voted for: queen_annes_revenge, Jamie Shred, Total, DrGiggles, Deadshot, Don Qui Hotep and DV8.

But DV8 - that Ironclad is incredible. The overall amount of work must have been huge, but it's all the little details too - all the writing/graffiti, that green robot thing on the base, the cooler - and the weathering is amazing.

JoshInJapan - great job commenting on all the entries. That's almost as much work as getting a model finished in the month!

And finally, thank you to whoever voted for me, given I didn't just not finish, but I'm miles from finishing!

maxwin- I remember getting the impression from the WIP pictures that you didn't prime, or else I misunderstood what I saw. I fear for the durability, but it's a cool figure and Mortarion is an example of becoming something you hate as war robs you of agency. He's a good one for this.
416_spacewolves- For DKoK, same idea as Mortarion regarding the lack of agency I guess. Good figures too. The mud is ground into the fabric of space.
Pneumo- I just like the bone color. Good bone.

Thanks for the comments, not sure where you got the impression I don't undercoat though ... In fact I wash and thoroughly dry all my models before polyurethane priming

Yes I concur, the base was done in a hurry. Also I trim the base by hand cause I don't have an exact size cutter for a clean rim.

I voted for:

queen_annes_revenge
Jamie Shred
endtransmission
Freya
Total
Chris56
Yorkright
ZenBadger
Pneumo
Ezki

My favourites:

Paradigm - fantastic unit, the colors chosen and the grim style fits perfectly. Also a cleaner paint job than usual. Total eye-candy.

feltmonkey - I like when chaos/Death guard is painted in a gritty and beaten style, your's is a flawless example of that.
The muted tones with the rust and dirt plus a bit o rot go hand in hand like a charm. Great piece Felt!

To think that's a scratch build and painted that way and done in one month is truly mind blowing. Hats down to you sir.
The complementy color selection, the rust effects, dirt deposits, free hands...I don't know where to stop. For me this is a true work of art!

Thanks again for the votes and to Nevelon for his work on Dakka challenge.

Honestly it's a great piece and even without the changes looks great! I just love the nuance and I feel adding more of it (without going overboard) would just keep elevating the model!

What are you making the base out of? If it's green stuff, might I suggest switching to brown stuff, or doing a green stuff/milliput mix. Something to make the material harder and sandable. Then you can just use sandpaper to clean the cuts and make it (at least look) smooth (if not a perfect circle) to give it the illusion of a clean rim.

Thank you so much! Means a lot coming from you. So it didn't actually take a month to build AND paint, it took two. I actually spent most of August building this piece, and the the back half of September painting it.

In 3rd is feltmonkey’s Foetid Bloat-Drone. It’s gross, and covered in layers of filth thousands of years old.

And on the flip side, in immaculately clean armor, polished with pride more times than can be counted by mortal minds, perfection embodied, queen_annes_revenge’s Emperors Children.

Spoiler:

Taking first with a healthy margin, chocked full of so many details you discover new ones every time you look at it, rusty but proud, DV8’s Ironclad.

Apologies for being late with the comments. The days seem to go past at about the speed of a strobe light at the moment. I did vote, but I didn't want to lose my streak of always commenting on everyone, so here we go. Better late than never?

Nevelon - Nice and clean, and a cool colour scheme. I've got five of these guys still to build - are Wraithblades or Wraithguard better these days?

queen_annes_revenge - A really nice paintjob. I like the purple, and the marble effect, but my favorite thing is how much character you've put into the face.

MobileSuitRandom - The weathering is great. The streaks of rust coming from the rivets is a very nice touch.

maxwin - It's a shame you couldn't finish this, obviously. The more finished areas look really good.

Arakasi - The ancient gold look you've created on these is very effective.

Whittlesey40k - Again, a shame you couldn't finish this. A Land Raider is a big undertaking these days. Nice solid basecoat though, it'll look good when it's finished, I'm sure.

Jamie Shred - Nice solid work. More quality ancient gold. The lightning on the swords looks good. One thing you can do when painting lightning is, wherever two branches of lightning meet, or where they split off, paint a spot of pure bright white.

Mothsniper - A really interesting model. I like the concept of doing him all green, and yet putting in quite a bit of variation and thus keeping it interesting. Nice job.

Turaxa - I really like the little narrative touches you've put in, such as the sign and the graffiti on the arm shield.

Freya - These are good, nice weathering and transitions. I think I prefer your brighter stuff, though. The female heads continue to be a great idea.

Pariah Press - Nice idea to reproduce the guy from that super-early catalogue. Didn't fancy painting the tiny check around the skirt though? I don't blame you!

ms07b3 - Nice grizzly job on this. The bright blues and reds are eyecatching.

Viterbi - That army is growing! Good tabletop stuff, and I like the base.

JoshInJapan - A really cool diorama thing, and impressive that you got it painted in a month.

416_SpaceWolves - DKoK are such characterful miniatures. I like the muted colours you've chosen for them. The paintjob is sort of let down by the patches of grey between the colours where the paint doesn't meet. Did you prime them? Priming black kind of makes those bits look like shadow.

endtransmission - I really like that miniature. What is it from? Your paintjob is excellent, great bold colours, and nicely executed.

Total - Very neat and clean work, especially the freehand on the symbols.

DrGiggles - Nice blood effects, solid work overall.

Vejut - A nicely worked-out colour scheme. Again, pretty solid.

jb1981 - Very clean painting. Lovely transitions on the claws.

Chris56 - Nice colourful work. The blade in particular is fantastic. The brighter greens on the armour are really blown-out in the photos, unfortunately. Still, great job.

Deadshot - Really good, neat, clean work on a very detailed and tricky miniature.

Yorkright - A solid job, good colours, and nice work making him look kind of ancient.

DJJazzyJeff - I think the base is the highlight here, it makes it more of a diorama than a miniature. Good job on the headswap as well. I've painted that mini, and that's not a straightforward swap.

Don Qui Hotep - Nice work on the skin. I think you maybe needed to do a bit more with the shorts, but overall a really eyecatching mini.

nintura - The Necrons are pretty good, I like the darker scheme with the heat glow. The other thing though is pretty spectacular. The glow from inside his skull and the tone variations on the skin are good.

Salabasama - This is a more low-key mini, but I like it a lot. Really great weathering, really grimdark.

ZenBadger - Really very neat and clean work, which suits spaceships well.

Captain Brown - That's a lot of surface area you've painted this month! The vines are a nice touch.

lifeafter - Good solid painting, and a characterful piece.

Maharg - Good blends, shading and highlighting. Nice and clean.

DV8 - Absolutely brilliant, and a richly-deserved winner. Others have already said everything I would say, except to mention that it joins the ranks of pieces in this challenge that have caused me to go to my wife and say, "Hey, you have to come and look at this!"

Pneumo - Lovely weathering. The rusty sword is great, and I like how you've concentrated the splatter around the feet.

Ezki - Very neat and clean painting. The jewels are awesome, and I love the starfield patterns. Purple and black is a bit of a 90s goth colourscheme though.

Paradigm - Cool atmospheric Sheetghosts. I like how grim and grounded they look. Good to hear your problems with your eyesight are starting to ease, as well.

Midget Gems - Lovely stuff. Nice camo cloaks and good neat painting. Your eye kind of gets drawn to the greenery on the base rather than the miniatures a bit. I'm not sure how you'd get round that given they wear grey and fight in jungles, though.

Modock - Fantastic work. Your style, with the smooth blends and sharp edge-highlights, works so well with the Infinity stuff. Most of what you paint looks like the cover of a sci-fi novel.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me, and to JoshInJapan, DV8, Freya, Don Qui Hotep, and Modock for the comments. It's great to be back on the podium again!

Likewise. That's an impressive build! I always have issues with models that size. I find it hard to apply the same level of commitment required to get them to a similar standard to my individual dudes... It's something I need to work on.

Nevelon - Nice and clean, and a cool colour scheme. I've got five of these guys still to build - are Wraithblades or Wraithguard better these days?

Thanks.

Honestly, my Eldar have not hit the table in 9th. With the way objectives are working, I think the need to be able to keep a boot on an objective is nice, and the shields make the axes a very tough nut to crack. The reason I built the blades with the axes is my need for an anvil unit that wasn’t just going to evaporate once it got out of it’s transport. (Which is the fate of all Eldar infantry)

But the guns still bring the pain.

The answer, of course, is just to buy more and build both. That’s what I did. The WW in the SC box wants a buddy, and can you have too many Wraithlords? I think not. Embrace necromancy. It’s the month for it.

Cheers for the feedback Feltmonkey. I did use white on the swords but possibly too much, smaller more targeted dots would have helped push the contrast some more so will try that next time.

Congrats Felt, Queen Anne and DV8, 3 pretty epic pieces there.

and well done to everyone that entered, I was happy to have to judge so many

Thanks for the Comment JoshInJapan and for the feeback Felt, yeah its an interesting one as both Camo and black draw the eye away, I was hoping that having lighter skin and and lighter stylized cloak would keep at least a silhouette. I'm just happy I keep managing to get things in atm even if I know its not my best stuff. Really hope to get the time to do a good conversion soon.

I'll get the league table updated in a day or 2.
