I've not posted for a while, mainly because I've not been playing or painting much. That's starting to change though - I've had my first game of 9th and have the new SM Codex on pre-order. I also (finally) finished painting the Desecrator I bought at the beginning of lockdown!

As with all my miniatures, it's painted to tabletop standard primarily for gaming, and I deliberately left off the carapace spikes so it can be transported. You can't see in the photo, but the sockets for those were painted to look like blast damage.

Some of my other Chaos Knights got updated at the same time. I repainted the Averland Sunset armour panels with Rakarth Flesh, and applied some of the transfers from the Chaos Knights sheet that came with the Desecrator to tie the whole army together.

And this is the only other unit I've built and painted this year (to show that it's not just my Chaos Knights that get all the love).

In a moment of extreme nostalgia I picked up the anniversary Imperial Space Marine.

The original metal version was actually the first miniature I ever bought (in a pack of 3 Space Marines) back in 1990 when I started playing Rogue Trader!

The question is, do I paint him as a Crimson Fist for old times' sake, or do I paint him as an Ultramarine to match the rest of my army

Ooh, he’s a really cool mini. I vote Crimson Fist, but even as an Ultramarine he’ll look good. The Chaos Knight in the OP looks great too

Welcome back to the hobby, your chaos knight looks excellent, as do your termies. I think go for the classic Crimson Fist but the UM will work well too!

Thanks. I do too, although I'm now wondering if I should have painted it the same as the rest of my knights (which are Mephiston Red / Rakarth Flesh).

My current project is to paint two whole armies - 1,100 points of TSons and the same of GK.

The TSons are now built, and have already seen action on the table:

Ahriman
Infernal Master
Scarab Occult Terminators
Rubric Marines
Chaos Land Raider

I'll be painting these (except the Chaos Land Raider) using contrast (Akhelian Green) over Grey Seer...

I've just started building the GK:

Castellan Crowe
Dreadknight
Strike Squad
Purifier Squad
Interceptor Squad
Stormraven

These will be painted using classic Grey Knights Steel over Leadbelcher.

My aim at the moment is to finish building the GK and then start painting as soon as the weather is suitable for spraying. I still haven't painted the Imperial Space Marine - that might just be kept as a nostalgic collectable.

The termies look good, but I recommend either drilling out the barrels of the guns, or painting a black dot where the hole would be. Other than that, they look really good.

I've never bothered drilling out gun barrels (I don't have a drill currently either). Does painting them with a black dot look effective?

The GK and TSons are all now fully built. Paints are bought too.

I could really do with about a month off work to get these all painted now

It's taken a while, but the GK and TSons are now all primed, and the Stormraven is painted:

Next up I'll be doing a test Strike Squad miniature and Rubric Marine to get my technique down for the troops.

Ooh, that’s a nice blue tint to the GK, what colour did you use to get it tinted?

It was sprayed with Leadbelcher then based with Grey Knights Steel. Then I used a mix of Talassar Blue and Contrast Medium to glaze the lower parts of each armour panel. Then it was dry brushed with Necron Compound. GW did a video on the technique (although they highlighted with Stormhost Silver I think rather than drybrushing with Necron Compound).

Thanks. It was undercoated with Macragge Blue spray then contrast Akhelian Green was sponged on. Following that a dry brush of Thousand Sons Blue then a second dry brush of 50/50 Thousand Sons Blue and Ulthuan Grey. The weapon covers are all Thousand Sons Blue with a dry brush of Thousand Sons Blue and Ulthuan Grey.

Thanks. The armour and the skin are actually different blues (Thousand Sons Blue and Talassar Blue), although they look so similar I could probably have got away with basing the whole model in one go and saving a lot of time
