edit- a retitle of the post so my non ork stuff can be included in one place. My glacial progress is better condensed to one thread that jumps about a bit in stuff. First up will be Aeronautica Imperialis...

or perhaps, Annuva Greentide amongst da starz

As has been common from what I read on Dakka, one bright side to all this home time from the pandemic has been more modelling. This blog is to detail the work done over this time, and the ongoing work to build my Ork Waaaaaagh.

I have been playing off and on since 5th edition- Assault on Black reach is near and dear to my modelling bloodpump. Lately i have preferred modelling to painting, with gaming a once in a while experience, so a part of this blog is to push through the paint phase.

First up will be my stompa, who had languished in semi built kitbash status for some years until this year.

any comments welcome.

Mr Stompa, with some others for comparison purposes

He is a kitbash of a number of kits, toy bits, lolly containers, hose parts and odds and sods. The Dreamforge parts are major contributor, i love those kits but always thought the weaponry was slighty overscaled to the Leviathan- chainsaw screeeeeeeeeeed orks to me.

the shoulder cannon rotates left to right and up/down. Head moves side to side, and ear turret rotates too.

straight down the barrel baby...

the astute may note this is not so much a Stompa as a Standa as he has no feet with which to stomp. This is indeed true but i dont tell him that.

Hey mate,

Off to a great start! Pics are a tad small but stompy boy is looking the goods. Lovely riveting and the enormous guns are fun - ammo feeds are a nice touch. Really interesting to see pics pre-priming and pick all the different sources of materials.

Is the plan to give him feet or keep him as is in the maxi dress?

Well done adding in the poseability too - it's extra work but imagine how fun it will be to train that big rootin cannon at some sucker marine's face on the table.

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more!

At some point he will arise from the firmament, for now I pushed through to painting.

The rivets take time- I went through multiple periods of time to do it. In the past I tried making my own, cutting rods or so on but was completely put off due to insane work required. Found alternates, maybe on here ( it been a long while); the bulk of the rivets are semi-sphere balls for the bead hobby. For variety, I made some bolts and such using the rivets and studs mold from Greenstuff world.

Thanks for feedback on photos- for now I only have cellphone and point and press technique.

undercoat and metal drybrush stage

and completed job. Not the greatest photo as dodgy curtain background but gives the jist...

Another model i have built over this year has been a grot mega tank.

I modelled closely to the FW model, again used a mix of kits and bits. Main turret is from 1:35 armoured car, front turret is Bismark battleship as is the prow and some decking. old timey mouse is in there. the scratchbuilt dozer blade took some time, curves were tricky.

a last tweak will be adding something to the pole.

included in photos is ork mek and a kitbash grot tank for sizing.

All ahead, flank!

And hard a port..

the other port...

and looking all angry and stern...

Some really fun builds you’ve done! The crows nest (Grots nest) on the mega tank is a great wee touch.

PS thanks for the gallery linked image!

thanks for the comments.

the bar thing around the main turret was a fortunate feature of the original kit.

what is that thing in his chest? Perhaps a closer look is needed=Skorcha time! He'll use any lure to draw em in

I'm enjoying the grot tanks and the grot mega-tank. I'm also getting impressions of Chinese or Japanese tank design, especially the guard rail on the mega-tank's top turret.

some painting progress on the megatank, the plan is dazzle scheme with likely a blue for extra garish grot stylings. I want to thank Gitsplitta for their great megatank work that helped inspire.

I had mucked about with a fine airbrush with this which boiled down mostly to spurts and unblocking- the patriot 105 badger is much more forgiving. after that, i went with a partial wash with ye olde GW yellow ink.

I ok with it so far. Working out what dazzle patterning is next as the shape is much less solid than an actual ship.

a few more models worked on over this year, a couple of Chinorks and a megatrakk scrapjet.

The chinorks are kitbashs from railway models, sprue, airfix robogear ( i think a russian site still sells this stuff, Airfix sold it 10-15 yrs ago in NZ), nasal sprays ( finally a bonus to developing hayfever).

the pair... the second one still needs riveting

and lastly but still speedy, is the scrapjet. this is a conversion of an unusual 1/35 resin model.

a shot with a gw scrapjet model.

Those Chinorks are fantastic! Great bashing skills. The scrapjet looks quite land speed record car, a Bloodhoung/Bluebird/Thrust colour scheme would be cool.

That is some quality scratch building so far, and only just begun.

It would be great to get bigger photos, maybe two or three times the size?

hey hey, been a while.

scattergunning the ork approach, I pivoted to finishing off my conversion for a ork wazbom blastajet. It has been a wip for a long while for finally fini with paint and everything. The model is a conversion of this gigant model https://www.hlj.com/1-700-scale-gigant-aos00432, with gw bits and Spacebattleship yamato.

the other dakkajet I have done for a long time now- not long after the actual model came out- it is heavily inspired from another conversion I saw on the net someplace.

side shot

I'm working on updates for other models I have in the wip phase- the chinorks etc.

The pic are in the dakka gallery with full size available by clicking them- default sizes have a large jump from the size in this post right up to full size. At some point, I'll reread pic posting sop, for now if you want a larger pic, click it.

That's a pretty great-looking mini for the Orks. Looking at the wing thickness, I have no idea how it actually flies xD

thanks for the comments

as i have read before, anything can fly with enuff thrust ( and a spoonful of orky belief whatzits).

here the second wazboom blastajet at the early stages of kitbashing. this'll use the kewl blasta guns or maybe they're the teleportas. again, robogear bits for the win, they fit right in with orkz. The pilot is a kromlech ork model - I originally bought him to put in the completed blastajet but i like him in this open cockpit as he will be more visible.

Cool flyers, the gigant conversion is really cool. I like how the blasta symbol on the smiley face one looks like an eye, kinda like a flying squig! The latest addition looks great, kinda like an Orky P-47. Will you be covering the foam in the main air intake or brushing something on to protect it?

I especially like the extra little engines on spars. In my head, they could help make especially sharp turns.

Love the new plane, totally agree about Technolog kits!

What was the original model?

Funny, I'm in the middle of de-Orking a Dakkajet.

a gun decal for eyeball on the dakka squig jet is a happy coincidence the foam will be coated with paint before a spray- I put it there to cover the blank space and would rather not scratchbuilt a fanned intake. I may do a grill type cover in the end as sometimes a model not coming together is enough to return it to the pile o shame- we will see .

Exactly! there will be two further engines off the wings and the rear will have two exhausts for especially hair squig raising manoeuvres- plus the emergency lunch ejector is already covered via the open cockpit design

the model is a 1/32 Gee Bee Air Racer from Lindberg models. the plane screamed ork conversion.

I are bad at image link so here is a link to some pictures and history of the actual plane https://www.amusingplanet.com/2014/07/gee-bee-model-r-cute-but-dangerous.html

Interesting to be de-orking Dakkajet? I bought a 1/48 F-86a Sabre from Lindberg models as a future convert into dakkajet project- the shape (barring the ludicrious aerodynamic wing curve and narrow fuselage) and size is very close to the GW dakkajet.

I've done a few and it's surprisingly easy. For most of the bits there's an Orky option and a straight one. Pick the straight options, remove the spikes and teeth, and give it a conventional paint job and you have a fairly credible 50's 60's jet.
Spoiler:

ah, great airforce there- liking the 50s/60s era inspired paint scheme too It really does show the inspirations GW used for the dakkajet cos they do fit right in with the F86 Sabre/ Mig15. are those Argus shuttles conversions from Valkyries? Great work.

I have not done much progress for good reasons... picked up the beastboy snagga box over weekend and worked on them- 10 boyz left to put together.

I did have the GeeBee blastajet set up with stand but despite many years of hobbying, I tried to get away with not pinning and the jet fell off. No damage done though. I still playing around with small wing and supashooter placement at mo. Some shots to show the rear engines attached now and some minor gap filling.

more progress. first is a quick dark shot from last night to show a wip for the GeeBee blastajet and the 1/48 Sabre jet conversion to Dakkajet

and now, some shots of as the models are tonight, I've included a GW bombjet as point of comparison.

the putty used is milliput- i used that in this instance as it sands better than greenstuff, and brownstuff sands well too but is harder to push into gaps.

The blastajet has a little bit of tidy up - the milliput vents on the top will get sanded, other than that is it all stuck together and ready for painting. I used different wheels than the smooth ones in the original kit- I had planned to add skids but happily found those 4x4 type wheels in another kit.

the dakkajet needs a pilot- that may take some putty work as it is very cosy for an ork. I may add some piping as well, other than that it came together much easier than the two blastajets; probably because the sabre jet is so close to the gw ork jet.

lastly, I will of course, drill out the barrels
