Hit print, come scoop it up 12 hours later, hit print on the next file and leave the room. Done! None of that toxic goo, no late nights spent placing supports, no hour of post-proc on every batch!

Fired up the Mega for the first time since the beginning of summer and boy is it a breeze.

Excuse the satin black PLA photographing like gak, it's a really nice print.

This message brought to you by filament gang. Feel free to post any FDM prints!

Yes, FDM does have a number of advantages, but do you also use a resin printer? Both have very different uses. To me the resin is so much quicker and easier, but to each his own

I recently just got in on a scenery/mini KS that I will just be getting some of the buildings and I am super excited about to fire back up my Ender 3 Pro!

It has been sitting idle for far too long while my Mars has been working non-stop for months making minis - time to start up on some terrain again.

Definitely agree that FDM is easiest, I have patience for tech stuff, just not time. And messing around with toxic chemicals is definitely in the nope category, I value my lungs too much. Time to paint is always the bottleneck rather than money, lots of minis in the pile already without me also getting into resin printing. There are some awesome indie miniature sculpts out there, but I can buy them pre-printed from people with commercial licenses.

So far my 3d printing experience has been:

1. Buy Prusa Mini
2. Assemble it (4 screws, plug a few wires in, done in under an hour).
3. Begin printing flawlessly over and over again after a couple of noob errors (leaving windows wide open during printing on a cold night, not realizing that the the first layer has to be really properly smooshed on when it comes to fine tuning the z-axis).

One failed print to start with and ever since then, hit print, leave room, come back to perfect print. It actually gives me less grief than my 2d laser printer. Something will break eventually, but the knowledge base out there is huge.

This is the coolest thing I've ever printed

Building a post-apoc table now, I think I'll just say the Pixels movie happened and Earth lost.

I must admit that for me resin has been much easier than fdm, for whatever reasons >_>

Same here... I have just fired up my Ender 3 after being off for a year and using my Mars strictly. The fiddly leveling, filament hassle, support issues, I will agree resin is so much easier - but, I do love the end result when all things good on the big pieces my Ender can print!

FDM printing is definitly the easier way to do the terrain pieces as it is easier to hide the striations than when printing mini's on an FDM. You would not be surprised the number of times I have chatted to people wanting to do massive terrain pieces on a tiny resin printer because the detail will be better. True, but at a distance you wont notice the lines!

Also those are some very clean prints mate, well done. Got a particular display board or game board you are printing it for?

Thanks! I'm working with a 100% stock Mega-S. My aim is to have a new table for a new genre at least every 4 months. I've done Ghost Archipelago (fantasy pirates) so far, currently working on post-apocalypse (yes, I did pledge for Brave New Worlds, why do you ask ), next up weird west (Dracula's America), then probably cyberpunk (Reality's Edge) or space opera (Stargrave).

The apocalypse stuff in Brave New Worlds was so fun to make and paint, one of my favourite sets that we have ever done

Would really like to see what you do for these guys as I have heard of the game systems but not gone in-depth with them. Like Stargrave, is it closer to star wars or Dune? Dracula's America, is it more a traditional wargame or frostgrave-like mix of RPG and wargame?

Stargrave isn't out yet but seems a lot more Star Warsy hive of scum and villainy smugglery stuff, set after the fall of galactic government like in Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda. It could really use a fully urbanized/industrial table, ideally a space port with cantina, warehousing, docking bays... Dracula's America is an RPGish campaign skirmish game also, set in a weird west where Dracula is president, vampires are government tax collectors, paladins have six shooters, the south literally rose again due to necromancy, and devil worshipping railway barons are drawing giant evil sigils with train tracks. Any american historical terrain 1800-1900 should work fine and steampunkish tech wouldn't look out of place.

That Dracula Rising game sounds interesting. Check-in with the Wild West Exodus crowd to see if they have some good Steampunk Wild West sources.

So I'm eyeballing possibly getting a filament printer late in the year for larger stuff like terrain and big vehicles. I've got (and love) a Mars Elegoo Pro, and was wondering how hard it is to adjust something in the price range of a Maker 3 to minimize those horrible print lines. Something about them...my eyes won't stop picking up on them and focusing them.

If it's really hard, it might just be worth it to slice and key the larger vehicle parts for resin printing.
