Hi all,
maybe someone can enlighten me - I just can't find the answer to this and find nothing in both rulesets...

Transports - in both games they often carry a wide mix of troop types/bases that don't line up with the number of vehicles. In other systems it is rather 1 base per vehicle, so self-explanatory...
If a transport gets destroyed, how do I know what passengers are affected? Who chooses? Is the leader affected? The heavy weapons teams?

And if say one out of five troopcarriers gets destroyed and the passengers survive and get out - what about the rest of the unit? Can they move on, leaving the slow footsloggers behind and break unit coherence?

The rules in the books are absolutely clear if all transports get destroyed at once, but I somehow just can't wrap my head around how it works with partial destruction...

Thanks and stay safe!

Using transports requires you to figure out a method of keeping track of which team is in which transport. That allows you to figure out which teams are affected when a transport is wrecked.

Going off of memory, my recollection is that v1 of Team Yankee used the "clown car" approach to transports. I.E. there is no limit to the number of teams that can squeeze into a transport. You should keep the teams evenly distributed across the transports. But in the interests of simplicity, the game assumes that you're going to find a way to squeeze everyone in. Though putting a full company of Soviet infantry into a BMP is tempting fate.

V2 might change this, but I don't own those rules.

Hi Eumerin, thanks alot!
Yeah, the vehicles have certain limits now (M113 - 3 passenger bases). How do you handle then which vehicle was hit? Who gets to choose?
I find it very strange that Battlefront ignores these situations... I know a lot of systems where this is handled differently, sometimes attacker chooses, sometimes defender, random assignment, leader is never hit etc.
But TY/FoW is the only one that ignores this...

Targeting transports works just like targeting any other vehicle.

Thanks again Eumerin!
Guess I'm gonna house rule that one. Seems strange if one can snipe the leader vehicle or the one that has the extra odd heavy weapon team. I'll rather distribute them evenly and then roll to see which one has been blown to smithereens. If only to reduce clutter on the table (tokens or lists of who is who)

The rules allow the defender to "swap" the hits allocated against two similar vehicles when certain criteria are met.

Also, there's nothing that says your opponent needs to know which transport is carrying a critical team. Finally, replacing platoon leaders is fairly simple in Yeam Yankee. Generally, trying to snipe them is a waste of time.

You don't need to house rule this, just read your rule book.
It tells you who allocates hits & how.
It doesn't matter what the squad type is - infantry, tanks, transport vehicles, guns.... its all the same process.
Hits are allocated amongst eligible targets, there's a chance to reassign hits, then saves/fire power checks are rolled.

With transports you'll almost always have passengers split between several vehicles.
As said, you'll need to record wich bases are in wich vehicles.
When one of those transports is destroyed, the book tells you how to make saves for them etc.
