Didn't see one of these here and as I'm excited to return to the Old World I thought I'd get one going.

Currently busy with a pile of Conquest minis but at some point I'm planning on revisiting my Empire army, terribly painted as a 14ish y-o.
Perhaps not a full stripping, priming, painting all over again (that would kill me) but at least cleaning up mistakes and adding some layers or washes to make them look acceptable. Characters I would totally repaint. Those have to look good.

Currently stripping Grom and his chariot from the "beautifully applied" paint of my Buddy, who sold it to me in 1998 for 50 Deutsche Mark along with some equally fascinating Monopose Swamp Boot Orc Archers, MP Orcboys, MP Goblins, a catapult and the 4th Edition armybook.

I am planning to make a big Campaign following the Waaagh of Grom from Middenheim via Nordland to Ulthuan, including a minigame of chariot racing and a sea battle using Man O War.,

After selling my DoW, WE, and VC; I have only Brets and DE left, in the process of stripping the Brets, the DE are stripped and ready to paint once I'm through with most of my 40k stuff. Excited and burdened at the same time.

This sounds amazing. Please post updates. That was one of my favourite stories in my first army book (5th High Elves)

Awesome to hear there's still so much forward momentum out there. Next up is a Chariot completely scavenged from the pile. Along with 2 units of hounds and hopefully my converted Nurgle Zombie Marauder Horsemen from 6th if I can find them.

Will do. I The chariot has still some basecoat left on some parts, it's kinda more resilient than the paint. But I am making good progress. So the first step ist painting Grom, then I will do some slight modifications on the chariot I think (pimp my ride! ) and when I am not busy painting, I will flesh out the campaign rules a bit. I have a vague idea on how to to it already. As the final fight is between High Elves and O&G, but the rest (or most of the rest) is Empire vs O&G, I have kinda limited influence on what is to be set up by the High Elves. In addition, as a "historical" campaign, Grom will make it to Ulthuan no matter what is going to happen in the Empire before. It's just the question how big his Waaagh will be when he arrives at the gates of Tor Yvresse.

In addition, it would be kinda unfitting / lame if Grom was to appear before the final showdown (and maybe defeated!!) during the campaign. So my idea was to set up several smaller battles like a spotlight illuminating interesting situations during the campaign.
Depending on how well the O&G player is doing / the Empire player is doing in these single scenarios, they will get Waaaagh! Points, or Support Points respecitvely. They can spend either spend these points for certain advantages in the following scenarios (e.g. allowing the Empire / O&G player to choose terrain/add a Regiment of Renown for this battle) or saving the points for the bulding of the fleet. The larger the fleet that survives the sea battle, the more can the O&G player field against the High Elves.

Example: I will probably start with a scenario displaying an attack on one of the main gates of Middenheim, with new O&G core & elite regiments arriving round after round, until the defenders are finally defeated. The more O&G the empire player will be able to defeat, the more support points he will get, or if it goes not so well or even worse for them, Grom will gain Waaaagh Points for his side.Rules for sieges will be based on 6th edition's rulebook.

I should be getting to my O&G army, but got distracted by a box of skaven that was meant for something else, and now I have a few kit-bashed heroes, and I then I decided to build a mordheim board for some reason, so I got a lot to get through.

It's the FW Orc Battle Standard. Despite having it for years I didn't realize it was a dragon's wing until I started working on the conversion.

Thanks for the kind words. I couldn't be happier with how the BSB came out. It's a testament to the quality of the plastic Chaos Knights kit that other than the banner, head and sword on his back it's all sourced from it.

I actually don't know where the Chaos star piece at the top comes from. It was from a bits lot I picked up years ago. If anyone recognizes it I'd be curious to know where it's from.

It looks like the flag-topper bit out of the Marauder Horsemen kit to me.

Quite correct. Looks right and I definitely had to cut off the skulls hanging from chains to get it to sit right.

Checking through my collection I found I have that orc BSB from an eBay lot. I didn't notice it was a dragon wing either.

My BSB uses the Marauder Horsemen chaos star on top of a large banner attached to a custom pole added to the plastic Chaos Lord miniature.

This mini is just begging to become a BSB conversion.

I have two Varanguard from eBay from which I will generate two characters on daemonic steeds, one mounted Sorcerer and my mounted option BSB.

Yes the Chaos knights kit has a lot of good stuff for making characters, its better for making character than for actual Chaos Knights as the knights do not rank up. I managed it but I needed to base them carefully having alternate steeds forward or back on the base and elevating some bases. Even then its a tight squeeze.

I really really like the Chaos Knight unit banner and was considering it for my BSB but went with something bigger.

You're absolutely right. That Chaos Lord almost looks like he was converted from a BSB the pose and placement is so perfect.

Because my project is completely sourced from the Pile of Opportunity my 6 Varanguard are going to be Skullcrushers.

I have a ton of the plastic Knights as I was making 40k Chaos Bikers with them before that game lost me again. I'm definitely going to make more Daemonic Mount characters with them but I am not too excited to make a unit.

Between the difficulty in ranking them up as you mentioned (seriously, what were they thinking? It's almost like they didn't have the 25x50 nearby while working on them) and the high price point for 1 wound models (This might be a function of the friends I'm getting back into the game with having a lot of shooting/magic that seems to make a mockery of the 1+ to be fair)

I only have two Varanguard, and my least favourite steeds. I probably have the same taste in daemonic steeds as the guy I bought the box of. But I would rather have two daemonic steeds at the price I got them than buy the boxset and cherry pick. They are all good sculpts.
Riders were included, the seller just wanted one.
This helps as I wanted exactly two, for the reasons above: mounted BSB and tankier sorcerer.

All these are still waiting on their sprue, a very late addition to my army I never got around to.

Why would anyone want spear and sword for a Chaos Lord?

More to the point are you allowed to? I can't recall an edition of the Chaos army book where they've been allowed spears; I presume most of the time that's a proxy halberd or getting converted into a BSB.

Just starting a Monty Python themed Empire army. Would have like to have it have been Bretonia but they don't have enough different troop types for the theme.
My first entry is Brother Maynard & the Holy Hand Grenade (Hellblaster cannon)

Amazing concept and execution @Korvessa. There's so many great moments from the film to be inspired by. Really looking forward to seeing it progress!

I managed to score a blister of Gotrek and Felix (2nd sculpts) today. I had the originals but had failed to get the resculpts till now. Can't wait to work on them.

I am trying to keep it as close to WYSIWyG as I can, which is why the army will be based on "closest fit for models" rather than a coherent list.
The Holy Hand Grenade feels like a Hellblaster.
I will actually have two Hellblasters. The second one will be The Green Knight who says "Nee!" if you look at how Arthur reacts - my imagination says that is kind of like a Hellblaster.

Also I live in the mountains (Korvessa = "in the wilderness") so just play solo or with my sons.

You do you.

I know this chap who made a 3rd edition IG army of Taliban. The demo charges were suicide bombers, yes he removed the model as he used them. The Colonel was Abu Hamza with 'power hook' and the regimental standard was waving a burning American flag.
Decent player too, his Taliban held well for infantry horde guard, which didn't do well in the meta of its day.

Our hobby has all sorts.

Bought a bunch of Runewars Elves at a massive discount I like the sculpts (especially the treekin!) and for a few dozen bucks I got almost 2k points worth for a new Wood Elf army.
