Color test for my Neohrekh Dynasty Necrons. Paint em two coats of gold, silver shoulders/chest icon, wash it with sepia. Paint the gun dark grey, silver details on it, blue wires, wash the entire model with Nuln. Simple, as evidenced these were start to finish in one night, but nicely effective. Probably add steps to brighten the gold on characters.

From left to right the rods were then painted silver, white, and yellow, then hit with a good coat of tesseract glow to test out that new paint I hadn’t used yet. Don’t know what I really expected from it on these large flat surfaces. I think the yellow on the right turned out the best. Looks kind of like a liquid/plasma type effect inside a clear cylinder. ‘Course I’m replacing all these guns with the new styled ones anyway which have much smaller glowy nodes.

First ten new Warriors built, and used their extra guns to convert over the first ten of my old Warriors to the new style guns to match. Got concerned when I first saw the new kit and how their left hands gripped a new side handle instead of how the old Warriors held their Flayers under it. I’ve got spare guns, not spare hands! The old Flayers were easy to chop up though and make an imitation side grip. Not Ideal, but sufficient.

I hate push fit Necrons. Marines are fine, they’re solid and study. Necron limbs are all spindly and constantly felt like they were wanting to break on me if I wasn’t extra careful.

Finished the second set of Necron Warriors plus the weapon updated ones to match. Gives me a twenty bot blob of each. Still got forty more of the old Necron Warriors, so I need twenty each of the new Flayers and Reapers.

Put together a few characters as well to relieve the tedium of the Warrior assembly line. After working on Primaris for so long it weirds me out to see the Warden on the same size 32mm base as the grunts. I’m used to all characters being on 40mm.

Also just for the heck of it my old gold dry brushed paint job next to the new gold paint washed job.

How well do the old warriors fit in with the new ones in your style?

They’ve got some distinct differences. Old ones would be taller if I hadn’t already hunched mine way over back in the day. New ones are way less dynamic as well. My eventual plan is 5 new and 15 (5 of which I’m gonna use the extra new heads on) per unit of 20. Need to get several of each painted up in matching colors to really see how they mesh.

Bit of weekend work, finally converting the Overlord‘s wargear to give him a Resurrection Orb and a very nostalgic Staff of Light. The staff arm isn’t glued on yet, I’ve got a bit more work to do on it yet later. When I’ve got more spare new style Gauss Flayers I want to cut the barrel off of one to replace the lower portion of the staff, in further reference to the original design for the Staff of Light. Truly a Relic for the ages.

Nephrekh color test mkII. Ok, it’s pretty much the same colors, but I’ve got the new guns on them, plus a mix of the new Warrior models and rearmed old. As expected, the Tesseract Glow works much better on a surface with some detail to it rather than the old completely smooth rods. I like it. Also I’m satisfied the old and new Warriors blend well enough. You can tell them apart if you’re looking for it, but you have to be looking for it, doubt it’ll really be noticed on the tabletop.

Been steadily churning out batches of a half dozen Warriors all week, and I’ve finally got a full blob of twenty done. Won’t actually all be in the same unit, I’ll split them across two to even out the new sculpts and my more extreme reposes of the old. I also finalized the color scheme, giving up on trying to make the one wire neon, and just reverting to my old green and blue wires. For the new tubes and blades I ended up watering down the Tesseract Glow a bit, and doing two lighter coats over yellow. Gives is a more even consistency. Some of these are before I got that figured out though and are a little more mottled.

If you caught my earlier math, doing six at a time to arrive at twenty, that left me some free spots. I did the odd two from the next unit, and then as a reward for so diligently grinding out Warriors I painted up the first two characters, a Royal Warden and Plasmancer. This let me figure out my cloak colors, which ended up Stormhost Silver, Akhelian Green Contrast, and Nuln Oil. They’re also a bit nicer gold, getting three coats of gold before the Sepia wash instead of the Warriors’ two, and gold dry brush after.

Back to the Warrior mill to get the next brick of twenty done...

Looking good! A simple but very effective scheme (very important when running big blocks of Warriors).

Yeah, they just don’t have too many details so they paint up pretty quick. Takes me a day of my painting time to do a group of six, where my Salamanders more around four days for the same number.

I just posted the first finished blob of 20 Warriors on Sunday, but I’ve already got my second one done thanks to the head start from a batch of these being one of the early color scheme tests. So yep, 20 Warriors with Gauss Reapers all painted up! The Royal Warden is the same one from before, but as he’s their designated babysitter I figured I’d include him in their shot.

Continuing to be crazy productive with painting since I can’t get out to actually play. Technomancer with his attendant Murder Buckets, plus a Plasmacyte just because. The pillar things on the Cryptek’s base aren’t really painted because they’re going to be replaced when I get the stuff to finish my basing, so they’re just kind of “ignore me” grey for now. Tonight, Scarabs! Should be super easy and give me extra time to read the week’s comics.

Skorpekh Destoryers done. Thought I was going to have my Reanimator finished as well today but didn’t quite make it. Will have that done tomorrow, and hopefully a pair of Lords as well to finish up everything I’ve got built.

Not a lot of fiddly details, a relatively easy scheme, and it’s not like I can go out and do much else right now, so yeah, getting tons done lately.

Finished up the two Lords and the Reanimator, and refinished the Skorpekh Destroyers after I saw the pictures I posted and decided they really needed their blades touched up. Also painted the nodes on their arms and legs after I did the Skorpekh Lord’s to match.

Everything built is painted! Woo! Time to build more. Bits trade came thru during the week so I’ve got a pile of new Warrior guns to rebuild an additional 40 old Warriors. Also gonna head swap a number of them with new Warrior heads, as well as four with Praetorian heads to be unit leaders. Finish up the Phaeron and build ten Lychguard for him I’ve got as well, and then it’s back to more painting next week.

Finished the third brick of twenty Necron Warriors. Let’s see, with this set I roughed them up a bit with the dremel, so their armor is more pitted and scared similar to the new sculpt. I also used the extra heads from the new Warriors to replace half the originals for that added variety. Lastly I made some “unit leaders” with spare Praetorian heads and Immortal spines. They will be used mostly to mark the guy carrying the special gun when they get upgraded in Crusade.

One more brick of twenty Warriors to go! Expecting to get some Scarabs in the mail today however and am planning to do those first for the short respite.

Finished my final group of twenty Necron Warriors. All eighty of them are now painted up and rearranged into units of optimal variety of old models, new models, old models with new heads, and one unit leader each. Was really starting to draw there at the end, so now I’m going to slack off for a few days before I get around to building my Lychguard and painting those up.

Dude, that's a lot of warriors O_O

Way to crush along through this project, the group shots have been especially gratifying. Also cool to see Nephrekh painted as Nephrekh - I'm guilty of just going 'yea these are Nephrekh, yea the gold ones, totally' as I plonk down my dark iron + brown 'crons that teleport or something

To be fair they’re not 100% Nephrekh, as I paint the shoulders and chest icon silver. I’ve always painted my Necrons gold, really. When I got back into them and was reading the dynasties, found the one who’s main trait is being gold, and it’s like whelp, guess I’m playing those now, it’s fate.

Hm. Don’t believe I’ve done any WIP shots of any of my Necrons, they’re usually done in a day. I’ve been going slower with the Lychguard here. Trying not to burn myself out right away again, and those shields are extra fiddly, so just taking my time. Should still have them done this time tomorrow.

is it just me or is the gold on the Lychguard brighter? Intentional? If so I like it, it makes them stand out as a special unit.

It is indeed! But that’s just because they hadn’t reached the Nuln oil stage yet. Paint the gold and silver bodies. Seraphim Sepia wash over that. Paint the weapons and wires and “cloth”. Nuln Oil wash over everything. Paint the glowy bits white, then yellow, then Tesseract Glow. The Lychguard do rate special enough they got a gold drybrush after the Sepia. May give them a light gold drybrush again after the Nuln, similar to the Lord.

Went beyond my previous “taking it easy” speed into full on slacking off the last few days, but I did finally get these first five Lychguard done. Second half of the unit is started, but only with the very first basecoat of gold.

Finally made some worthwhile progress on my Nephrekh Necrons after so long! I just really didn’t like painting the silver and black on those shields, but I don’t think I ever have to paint more of those again. I Do want more Lychguard, but they’ll get Warscythes. So yeah, just need to paint the glowy bits and these will finally be done and I can reward myself by Finally painting my Overlord.

Finished up the second half of my Lychguard unit. This leaves me 12 models short of fully painting my planned 2000pt army. Of course I don’t Own 11 of those models yet... And one of them is a Monolith... But minor details, right?

To be fair, I painted my old Necrons gold before Dynasties were even a thing, and have chosen to champion Nephrekh mostly because their colors are closest to my pre-existing scheme.

Instead of just painting the Overlord by himself I decided to also get my additional Scarab bases done at the same time as well. Got the base gold and silver skin done and sepia washed, as well as an additional light drybrush of gold on the Overlord. His Golden skin won’t get the usual black wash, only his silver shoulders. He’s gotta be the brightest.

Didn’t quite finish painting their bases last night so I had to wait till I got home from work to get them done. At long last I allowed myself to paint my Overlord, and got my extra Scarabs done giving me two full units of those now. Eventually need to look at EBaying another nine of those to Max me out. In the meantime that Overlord gets my planned 1000pt/Crusade army to fully painted status. Let’s see what your reliance on Melta does vs the Golden Tide now Judy!
