How do!

Mmmm, shiny new game! And a sequel to the particularly, nay amazingly spectacular Spider-Man.

About 15 minutes or so in, and really enjoying it. Particular high point is that having just re-played Spider-Man, they’ve not messed with the controls any. But they have created new animations for Miles when it comes to web swinging and a good old fashioned punch-up.

Overall, he feels slightly weedier than Pete in a fight, but the Venom Blasts (which you build up by attacking and dodging) more than make up for it. One other change is you get a finisher for a 15 hit streak (really easy to achieve, though that may be my experience talking). Taken together, it’s a subtlety different combat experience, which I consider a nice touch.

So far, no real gadgets to speak of, beyond webbing and venom blasts. But I suspect those’ll unlock eventually. Indeed, just unlocked the First!

Main criticism I’ve heard online is that it’s somewhat short, closer to DLC than a AAA. Considering it was £50, I’m hoping that been exaggerated a bit.

Anyways. Places to swing, faces to kick. Back to it!

Good to hear that it's not just a copy-paste of the PS4 Spiderman (Not that it would be entirely bad thing given how good the first one was, but at least they factored his venom blast and his lack of experience). From what I saw online I like how he looks like he's flailing while web slinging to reflect how this is all new to him, versus the much more experienced Peter.

Not sure if I'll get it straight away, but it's definitely a must buy once it gets discounted a bit.

There is a definite feel that he’s still learning. All flailing limbs when web swinging, and a looser fighting style.

I’m really enjoying this!

Out of curiosity, are you playing the PS4 version? I remember you starting a different thread about PS5's and basically nobody in the thread being able to get it when it launched.

Yeah, PS4 download which I can carry over to the PS5 whenever I get one.

Right, that’s enough for tonight, Brother Maynard!

Having played for around three hours? It’s not reinvented the wheel, and to be honest it had no need to.

Combat is ace, especially when you get a handle on your venom sting. Just sent a brute flying from a roof top, which isn’t only efficient, but good fun. Also a new power of invisibility, which I’m yet to really explore!

Suffice to say if you didn’t enjoy the first, you won’t enjoy this. But for everyone else, give it a consider.

I'm playing it. Lots of fun, just like the original game. I saw it described as more of a side story as opposed to a true sequel. And while I don't know how long it will run, it definitely doesn't *feel* as big as the first game did. In the first game you had three different competing individuals (Negative Man, Osborn, and Otto), whereas this game appears to be straight-up Roxxon versus The Underground (and the new Tinker). There also hasn't been the sheer volume of side stuff as compared to the first game.

The only disruptive element so far has been a reward for finishing a long string of side missions that turned out to be a political statement (and I'm not saying anything further than that) instead of something relating to Spider-Man.

I'm hoping to snag this game once I'm finished with the new assasin's creed as a time filler between it and cyber punk. really looking forward.

I’m wondering if the limited villains is due to The Great Unwashed (Me!) not being familiar with Miles’ rogues gallery. Peter Parker’s? Kinda hard not to be familiar with his (and props to them for not relying on Green Goblin in the first), so they could afford to put more in without confusing peeps.

Here’s hoping for a third installment, maybe with co-op play?

they've already confirmed a spiderman 2 is coming, the Miles Morales game is apparently intended more as a smaller game to "keep folks eager for the next big game" I hop[e theyh avoid co-op TBH (mostly because a LOT of what gave the original it's charm would have to be dumbed down with co-op) but I bet we'll get to play Mikles off and on in it. I mean... we got to in the first game and he didn't even have super powers!

Also just ran into frame rate issues.

However, it was toward the end of 7 hours gaming. So may have been my PS4 getting a bit hot under the collar.

I haven't run into any frame rate issues yet.

SoCal

There'll be framerate issues, mostly due to this being a cross-generation title so they don't have as much time to optimize the previous gen after adding so much to the new. But wow, this game is pretty on PS5 having compared it to the PS4 version.

Buuut, this is a difficult game to jump in on as your first Spider-Man game because almost all of SM1's move set is available at the start, and you'll need to use it.

However, all the banal cut away puzzle screens have been removed. Replaced with in-world puzzles that involve a lot of electricity, but that's okay it's a shorter game.

There's no stealth side characters to play as either, although I did enjoy one MJ sequence mid-way through the last game, it's not as fun as playing the superhero (most times).

Lastly, if you find a political statement problematic in Spider-Man, or any comic, you're consuming the wrong media. Fire back on that if you want but the entire medium and genre are just a series of extreme to absurd political statements.

You're missing the point.

If the developers want to stick street art or a billboard somewhere with a real world political message on it, then I'm not going to complain (so long as it's not doing something hideous such as advocating fascism or communism). Regardless of whether I agree with it or not, I don't mind it (unless it's something like a constant series of in-game radio ads that I'm forced to listen to; then I'll get irritated with it regardless of whether or not I agree with it). But that wasn't what they did. Quite literally, the political statement (a mural with a political slogan) was a REWARD for completing several side missions that had nothing to do with the statement.

As an example, let's say that you complete a series of side missions in a game. And you're congratulated for completing those side missions in a very short cut-scene in which a large mural that says "Don't forget to vote!" is shown on the side of a building (that's not a political slogan, btw, though it is good advice). The missions had nothing to do with voting, polling, ballots, election candidates, or any similar items. "But Eumerin," you say, "That has nothing to do with the missions that I just finished! No developer would do something silly like that!" And then I reply, "Well, actually..."

If the topic behind the slogan had been a theme of the missions, then having it as a a reward would have made sense. In that case, having it appear would have been fine, imo. But that's not how it was handled. The whole thing was so out of nowhere that it broke the fourth wall just a bit.

having completed it myself let's get out of the way what the "political" statement was. it was a black lives matter mural. in a game.. featuring a black super hero.

I'm not surprised given that's the new fad that most corporate entities are promoting nowadays, sad to see that kind of stuff pushed in a video game that will age badly but as long as its not the central focus of the game I can just ignore it.

Again, sticking it just as a thing within a game - and calling attention to it if the developers so choose - would be fine. Could even give players a bonus for taking a picture of it as was the case with the landmark snapshots in the first game. I specifically did NOT mention the political statement because the exact political statement is irrelevant to the point that I'm trying to make. It doesn't matter whether it's BLM, or MAGA, or (as I hypothetically mentioned earlier) something as uncontroversial as an admonition to vote.

Having it AS A REWARD for a notable accomplishment is a stupid design decision. The only thing that would change that is if the mission series that it was a reward for had focused on it as part of the mission series. But that wasn't the case.

Why is it so hard for people to understand what I'm saying?

Really not seeing that as being even slightly controversial though.

And if you don’t like politics in your media, might want to walk away from all things Marvel, what with X-Men being a direct parallel to the civil rights movement amongst other blatant and confirmed political statements.

Besides. It’s a mural, in a side quest, and you see it for, what, less than 10 seconds? If that is really really ruining things for you? You might want to go and have a wee word with yourself, and take stock of your priorities.

the mural wasn't the reward, the suit was. the mural was a landmark where they choose to leave the suit. and it did tie into the missions. the missions where a random bunch of missions but also had a mini story arc involving someone causing trouble for the people of Harlem (which is a neighborhood largely populated by racial minorities) throughout the story arc you hear people talk about how great it is to have a spider-man who cares about them etc. and diversity is a subtle but present part of the game and that story arc (where I'll note you're assisted by a mute girl who speaks using ASL)

seriously, I don;t get the issue here.

Truthfully, it's a slogan (and group) that's been around for almost a decade now (2013). If it didn't have murals and graffiti in Harlem of all places, that's a very obvious and heavy handed censorship miss by the Devs.

Complaining about just one mural existing is very much coming at it from the wrong end.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

That suit is awesome, but i really cannot be arsed to do tedious side quests.
Im also happy they didnt go around with the whole "who is the Tinkerer" for so long, i guessed it about an hour in and it made it better(Yes if you know the comics, its easy to guess based of names, but i didnt)
Same with the prowler, the moment the reveal happens is the moment you meet him, because i think they assume most of us will know who he is and it will be just a lame reveal if done later for Miles to learn. Allows for a different story to be told with them.
The combat really seems different this time around which i like, i do miss the suit powers however, replacing it with just mods was kinda lame.

Just completed it.

Three or four evenings gameplay, and really rather enjoyable. You could probably rattle through it in a day, especially if you ignore the various and sundry side quests.

Did pretty much everything, barring a couple of the training missions, but given they were a lot of fun I’ll go back and do those once the credits have finished rolling.

In terms of length, I’d have preferred it to be longer, because these games are just so much fun to play. But, it’s not as drastically short as some try to make out.

J Jonah Jameson remains an excellent addition of course. It’s hard to imagine a Spider-Man without old Brush Head channelling a certain cretinous shock jock.

Beat it, a fun little game.
The final boss fight was a doozy, as was all of them.
I think my favorite was it really was why Miles is going to be going it alone for a bit that also explains why we wont see him constantly helping Peter in the next game. But also with the final little tease of the next full game. I still think that, somehow, thats going to be venom.

Lizard too, the doctor working on him in the scene is the one who turns into the lizard.
Keeping this back with Miles, I wonder how he will be incorporated into said sequel. He obviouisly isnt going to be the focus. My guess is he will be like some of the side kick missions are in Arkham City, where you work with him to take down a specific villain.

they could also do something like what Arkham City did with Catwoman where sometimes you team up with Milles, you play him in a few missions and for the free roam stuff you can swap back and forth. Although TBH I'm not sure I'd like that. Spider-man (be it Miles or Peter) tends to be best when it's personal so swapping between them like that would over all lead to a weaker story
