Since GW asked the question: I would have been interested in that Blood Angels box.

A lot of people don't get my disappointment. Yes, a lot of the models in there can be used in a Blood Angels army. I even theorycrafted a list several weeks back and it has Intercessors in it.

But if you label something as a "Blood Angels Combat Patrol" I'd like for it to have 1-2 core units in there. I want to have a set that's very thematic, not just peppered ENTIRELY with models that yes, you can field in a Blood Angels army but other Chapters have access to. (READ: Generic units are OKAY. Just include even just one Blood Angels-specific units.)

Keep the Aggressors. Keep the Intercessors. But for the love of Terra, why that Librarian? Wouldn't it have been more thematic if it were a jump pack Librarian with a power axe? Also: A unit of Sanguinary Guard? A Death Company?

Your thoughts?

Right behind you.

So keep the "good things"(Aggressors, Intercessors, Impulsor) but take away the "things I don't like"?

The reason you get the Primaris Librarian and Primaris units is that it's a Primaris box. They assume that people have already converted up Jump Pack Librarians and have Death Company and Sanguinary Guard. The "core units" of the Blood Angels are the same as any other Marine Chapter: Battleline. Infiltrators(the alternate build of the Incursors pictured) and Intercessors both fulfill that role. Incursors are a "Close Support" unit, basically there for clearing buildings and fighting in much closer than standard Intercessors would from the way it sounds.

Don't like the box? Don't buy it.

This box has been available for some time. It was even price-bumped and still it was a popular purchase. Where's your complaints about the Terminator Captain in there?

But really, tell us more about how this box is terrible for you. It's not like Raven Guard got their Chapter Master Primaris'd and didn't get an accompanying bodyguard unit like Guilliman/Calgar did. I weep that you get a tie-in box release that actually isn't trash.

Because they're not Primaris.

That's the reason.

How typical.

You know that's a bull gak argument, right?

Given that the Terminator Captain is a BA Terminator Captain, and the OP's concern was the lack of BA units in the new Combat Patrol... I imagine there aren't any complaints.

Seriously, Kan, did you look at that image before going on the offensive?

those intercessors can be used as death company intercessors, so it's not like there's nothing unique there for Blood angels. personally I think a libby is the betetr choice here, I mean... would you rather a primaris Lt?

OTOH in general for players this makes it cheaper as you can get this as discount box regardless of which marine faction you play. Blood angels? Optimal. Ultramarine? Still discount.

12 factions for Lord of The Rings
4663
11772 pts(along with lots of unpainted unsorted stuff)
5265 pts
5150 pts
~3200 pts Knights

As someone who has just started collecting Blood Angels I agree this new release doesn't have much to do specifically with Blood Angels, apart I believe from one upgrade sprue? And whilst I appreciate the old units are probably being phased out it's what gave them their identity.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I'm more interested in this box for my Deathwatch than I was for the Deathwatch one. Only downside is lack of Deathwatch upgrade sprue.

Nothing particularly "blood angels" about this box other then the upgrade sprue... feels like just another excuse to sell a primaris marine starter kit with out just calling it that. I guess its nice to have a terminator thrown in for old times sake.

I get where you were coming from OP ... generic and vanilla... too bad. But generic and vanilla can sell to more people ... and GW likes monies.

As an aside, as "infinite" rolls is actually impossible even if the FAQ "allows" it, then it will always be a non-zero chance to pass them all. Eventually the two players will die. If they pass the game on to their decendents, they too will eventually die. And, at the end of it all, the universe will experience heat death and it, too, will die. In the instance of "infinite" hits, we're talking more of functional infinity, rather than literal.

RAW you can't pass the game onto descendants, permissive ruleset. Unless we get an FAQ from GW.

I mean, its a box of imperial marines for an imperial marine army, with a matching upgrade sprue for the blood angel army.

Its made entirely of options from the Blood Angels codex, so it IS a blood angel army. Hell, death company intercessor's are an option.

I think it's a fantastic box for any marine player, BA more so due to the short nature of the aggressors and infiltrators

BA are 95% codex compliant. I know thats easily forgotten given the all-jump pack meta of 8th, but thats what the fluff says.

Across the Rubicon

While some disappointment is understandable, it should be remembered that chances are none of the formerly 'codex compliant' chapters are likely to get a Combat Patrol box. And certainly not any non-marine faction save maybe IG with MT. I think it is completely folly to believe that GW is going to stick in something like Assault Intercessors or at very least the full kit version.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Librarian as the HQ. I know BA aren't considered a psyker chapter, but I think of the founding chapters they kinda are especially if you go by chapters that call them Librarians and not some sort of priest. I also think there's nothing wrong with throwing in the Intercessors as I don't think any chapter is going to not move toward them being the meat and potatoes of the chapter. I suppose one could complain about the Infiltrators/Incursors, but on the other hand, do you really want Reivers instead? They would be more Blood Angel-ly. The Agressors don't feel distinctly un-Blood Angel. It kinda feels Baal Predator given marine with flamestorm gauntlets form to me. Finally, I would rather have an Impulsor than say a Redemptor Dreadnought. Especially since Primaris don't have much in the way of jump/grav packs as of yet. So having a Primaris Rhino might be worthwhile.

Honestly, if I didn't have a pretty complete Primaris army already, I would consider picking this up if I was looking to add some things. Heck, if I didn't already have the Librarian I might still have as I think I am eventually going to want another Impulsor, can always use a few more Intercessors and Infiltrators. However, I get it. The Genestealer Cult Start Collecting was disappointing to me as I was expecting the Goliath Truck as the vehicle. That Start Collecting was and is still pretty useful to building up an GSC army though even if I already had a couple-few Ridgerunners before it.

Makes sense. I have never read a Blood Angels codex and just have internet lore to go by. I figured with their Librarian Dreads, Mephiston and Space Hulk Librarian that while Blood Angels aren't thee psyker legion like the Thousand Sons, they do have/use them more than the average chapter.

I don't like the new box either.. But then again, didn't like the old one as well. Guess I'm just being picky.

Problem with these battleforces is that they usually have too much redundancy for existing armies. I got all the tac marines / interecessors I could want already.

For my current needs, something like the Start collecting Vanguard Space Marines is the best bundle right now. No chaff, only specialist models which are too expensive to consider buying separately.

Sure fluffwise.
But I am just reacting from a customer perspective. If I am buying a box that says "Blood Angels" on it I kind of would hope I am getting something that is at least partially unique to "Blood Angels" (unique meaning unavailable to other sub factions)
I know some people disagree with this and that is ok.

I am not saying it is a bad box or even that its not a good box for blood angels. The box just doesn't feel like it should say "Blood Angels," it should say "primaris starter pack 3" along with the other two primaris starter packs they just released. I also get that GW makes more money by releasing products that more then just BA players can buy as well though.

Also true...

As much as I am the first person to decree the subfactions should be treated as unique armies... I really think if the plan was just primaris/vanilla boxes anyways, they could have just made one and called it a "Primaris starter box." When people talk about wasting design/ product space, I point at this type of stuff...

I'll repeat what I said when the battleforces previewed originally: that's the point. GW realized the Start Collecting were too good a deal and people could buy multiples, so now it's boxes designed for new players to buy exactly 1 copy and old players to buy exactly 0.

None of the blood angels specific units are in primaris yet. GW will not release another box featuring firstborn ever again from the way things are trending. Until we hear primaris death company, hope you enjoy these really annoying choices. Think how white scars feel, their chapter master is stuck walking because GW couldn't be bothered to give him a bike until the rest of primaris got it. Be thankful there's not a primaris death company unit that's just intercessors with rifles walking.

except his main complaint seems to be "WHY DO WE HAVE A LIBRARIAN" As if libbies aren't something frequently used by the blood angels (when your chapter is the only one with access to Librarian dreadnoughts you can't with a straight face claim you're not a chapter that makes heavy use of libbies)
