Hey Dakka as a long time Dark Angel player I have been reading through and building a ton of new units mainly since SM keep getting new models like hot cakes..... what are some major changes you have made to your Dark Angels armies compared to how you ran them back in older editions! I remember in 7th I had an entire 2K army for both Ravenwing and Deathwing since at one point they could be troops choices due to warlords (Belial/Samuel) but since than many changes, nerfs and buffs have been implemented! What are some major changes you are testing/trying before this new codex drops and yet again changes the norm for us! Here are some units I’m excited to use in the field again!

Well, for the 1st time in something like 17 years, my DA will be moving into a new, larger, case.
Over the past year I've been steadily replacing my old army cases with BattleFoam Pack 720s. This Christmas will yield several more cases & foam.
So, with more room, & all kinds of new SM stuff released these past few years.... My DA will almost certainly get some new recruits.

As the force is 3rd co., with zero Deathwing/Ravenwing, ill {probably} continue that theme. So some Primaris squads (likely Hellblasters) & a few Primaris vehicles.
Ill have to sit down & fiddle with the #s as to what new stuff will fit well with my existing units & playstyle. I'm looking to expand options, not build an entirely new army.

I already had Ultras, so my DA was entirely DW/RW for a change of pace during the FOC Change era. I miss playing a DA game or two. I’m waiting for the codex to be sure, but I’m leaning pretty hard towards painting up a few bone white squads of Heavy Intercessors who will be Deathwing (even if it’s in name only) troops to be able to do a Belial/Sammael Battalion again.

Edit to Add: I do think GW is king of between a rock aapnd a hard place here, because had I to do it all over again, there’s little difference between an all DW/RW army and Custodes, probably a reason GW has looked/felt so paralyzed on what to do with them.

I’ve been looking and I think I will continue to use my firstborn dark angels tacticals compared to building to much of a new force. I have plenty of Primaris options built and primed BUT o Lt my Greenwing/Deathwing/Ravenwing are at tabletop standards for play.
