Wishing I was back at the South Atlantic, closer to ice than the sun

I thought they said chapter masters couldn't buff themselves? Or is the Shrike ability one of "those" ones GW forgot to change?

Andrew.

Add the following ability:
‘Rites of Battle (Aura): While a friendly RAVEN GUARD CORE unit
is within 6" of this model, each time a model in that unit makes
an attack, re-roll a hit roll of 1.’

So GW said one thing forgot they said it and went back on themselves. Well with everything 2020 hit us with its good to see GW hasn't changed.

Only insomuch as Grey Knights and CSM didn't get any of the aura changes, but DID get the Wargear changes. All the other Loyalist SM factions got rolled into the main codex so DID get changed.

From Core Units and Characters on Warhammer Community:

As mentioned earlier, these changes to aura abilities and the introduction of Core units will be rolled out with each new codex, starting with those of the Space Marines and Necrons.

Grey Knights and Chaos Space Marines have yet to receive their 9th edition codices.

Shrike selects himself, and gives himself rerolls.

*Page 53 – Kayvaan Shrike, Abilities, Chapter Master
Change to read:
‘In your Command phase, select one friendly Raven Guard Core
or Raven Guard Character unit within 6" of this model. Until
the start of your next Command phase, each time a model in
that unit makes an attack, you can re-roll the hit roll.

True, he can Chapter Master buff himself, but not with his Captain ability.

The Captain aura works on nearby Core
The Chapter Master ability works on a single Core or Character, and the CM retains the Captain aura.

Not sure where GW wronged you, tbh.

I think your getting confused between hype and detail

A lot of character auras and abilities target either core or core and characters

In practice this means lots don't effect characters because they don't have the core keyword.

The question is what keywords are targeted and does your model have them
