I'm casually interested in this game and a bit curious about how big models and bases are, as my Google search has so far not given me a clear answer? Reason for question this an idea I have to, if I go through with it, use models from other games to represent minor houses and clans that show up to fight for their liege in the War of Five Kings. So I am a but curious about how doable this would be in practice.

They are on 30mm bases and I would classify them as 32-35mm scale.

They are fantastic miniatures for the price.

Let me know if there are any specific scale matchups you would like to see. I have tons of them.

I'm mostly interested in them and historical miniatures for the sake of represented minor houses not yet, or maybe never, part of the game's line of models. Thus I'm interested in pretty much everybody who produces models of the roughly same size and of a historical, or low-magic fantasy and human (no orcs, elves etc.), kind of models.

Well, they definitely won't scale well with 28mm historical miniatures like Perry or Warlord. I'll put up some scale shots for you.

Thai being said, there is a lot you could do with the existing miniatures with simple conversions.

For example, adding shields to Bolton Cutthroats or Night's Watch conscripts or weapon swapping Baratheon Wardens, etc. etc.

True that. I was actually a bit disappointed that the models were not in the 28mm range I am used to from my Warhammer Fantasy days. But I figure that I can probably work something with some practice and imagination. But scale shots would be very appreciated.

That said, like you said, some conversions back and forth and adding new heraldry should make them distinct enough from each other. I've already got an idea for two conversion projects; Joffrey's household troops (Baratheon base with Lannister additions and the divided lion-and-stag heraldry) for Lannister and Free Folk converts to R'hllor for Stannis.

So we'll see how it goes.

Imagine if WHFB was streamlined, much cheaper, had free rules, alternating activations... and the Yahtzee magic phase was essentially replaced by a card and worker placement side game dripping with theme...

Games take about an hour also once you know what you're doing, and only need a 4x4...

That's awesome to hear! I was looking at perhaps getting some other historical miniature game, but I feel drawn back to Westeros.

Ooh man do I agree with this.

I bought the Night's Watch starter just for the minis about 18 months ago... Then I played a game on a whim. Now I own at least the starter for every single faction and basically don't buy anything else but ASOIAF.

The miniatures are a joy to paint, and the game is absolutely fantastic.

One of the great underrated things about the minis for this game is because many of them are single piece, things like hair and beards lie naturally on the miniatures. Once you see it, I've found it very tough to go back to "modular" miniatures with hover cloaks (they rarely look natural because they aren't actually draped around the miniature) and hover hair and hover beards, etc.

This game sounds better and better. In my mind I'm already deciding on three Baratheon kings' armies.

All ideas pending further modifications, of course as this is so far just my dreaming and brainstorming ideas.

Joffrey: Baratheon+Lannister+Brave Companions+Bolton

Stannis: Baratheon+Free Folk+Stormcrows

Renly: Baratheon+Stark+Greyjoy

Hopefully it will make for a good game and also provide some semblance of one side not being totally overpowering the rest.

I got into the game a few months ago with Night's Watch army. The wife liked it enough to buy in with her own Targaryen army. The models are very nice for the scale, but not particularly well detailed. They paint up very quickly though and look very nice on the table.

Gameplay is interesting. It has a bit of the problem you see with a lot of these types of games where the big bases are designed around really boring flat terrain. It also takes a bit to get a feel for the tactics decks, but they do a good job of giving each faction its own mechanics.

The thing that really stands out to me is the tactics board. It just creates a lot of interesting options and turns the usual sense of stalling created in alternate activation games into something really dynamic and interesting. It still needs some fixes to alleviate some activation control issues, but this bit of the game is far more compelling than I expected.
