So this is something my friend and I experimented with this evening, to see if it gave us greater or lesser motivation. And for me, it definitely worked. Having someone to talk to, and bounce ideas off was very welcome. Took me back to the old olden days of those impossibly smol, round painting tables at GW. The ones with the fixed seats. Just good to have a natter whilst cracking on.

We used FB Messenger for the call, as it was just easier to setup. I can recommend!

Though if anyone fancied a Dakka Painting Circle, maybe we could arrange something over Zoom?

I've never gotten to paint with other people, but I can see how it would make for great motivation. Usually I'll just throw on an episode of Paint Bravely or Trapped Under Plastic for company.

Interesting idea. Used to have regular painting sessions with my regular 40k opponent buddy. More so in the early days, before he had a painted army. Either at each others houses, or sometimes we'd meet up at lunchtime at our local GW - he worked nearby and I worked shifts and was free during the day...

Um, anyway. Potentially up for it, but I paint fairly infrequently at the moment...

It’s my hope that if there’s interest, we could arrange set four or five hour blocks, which peeps can drop in and out of.

Invites would be sent via PM though. Local pub had a quiz night invited, and it was not good. Like, person was sharing content you go to prison for!

Have tried it before, and it was the first time I'd painted with anyone else before and it was a refreshing experience!

I didn't do much in the way of painting, but I'd be keen for a Dakka Painting Club or something, that'd mix things up a little bit.

Discord might be worth a go as I'd say most people use that platform, as Zoom needs a person who has paid for more than a 40 min free session.

Ha! My days of painting for anything like 5 hours at a time are long behind me... My eyes generally start getting sore before even 1 hour is up now. :(

Me and my bro did this during lockdown in Victoria. Worked really well to keep up painting while we were bored at home.
Definitely recommend it for anyone who isn’t able to meet up atm due to COVID!

Dakka should make their own discord. I think that is a great idea! Why limit it solely to painting sessions though? You could make all sorts of channels into it, stuff like

+ Painting/modelling (voice)
+ Painting/modelling
+ General
+ YouMakeDaCall
+ TTS 40K players lobby

and so on..

On my one, no sessions planned as yet, but will likely be a couple of mid-week evenings, and a weekend session.

I generally work better in a structured environment, so set times are my preference.

Looking at the first session 7:30-8:00pm U.K. time tomorrow.

Haven’t tried any calls on Discord yet, so we may have teething problems!

My gaming group meets every Thursday night to have a painting call. While you really cannot see what other people are doing, we talk about it and catch up on the week. We also discuss what we want to do after COVID 19 has past.

Tried out a Discord video call tonight.

It was ok I guess, but my mate’s connection kept crapping out. Unsure what caused it, but a second attempt via Messenger worked nicely.

Going to give it another bash tomorrow.

Sorry, couldn't make it tonight. Bad time for me, tea time then shopping delivery...

count me in. tried to set one up with my local group. the post got loads of 'likes' but no comments. I did do a couple of evenings with my tattooist - I made models while he did some bio-mech airbrushing. We didn't talk much which is fine with me as I suck at small talk (autism).

Tonight’s went quite well. My mate had connection issues, but the third was fine, so it’s definitely a problem at my mate’s end.

Next session is planned for Thursday, 7:30-8:30. Depending on availability and voices, there’ll likely be a weekend one.

Banter so far has been hobby related, so hopefully accessible to all. The main thing for me is it being a welcoming, friendly channel - so if you tag along, and you find any of the chat off-colour, do say so and we can amend, as we’re all grown ups in that regard

Next session planned for 22 December 7:30-9:00pm GMT.
