So, killtanks are awesome, I think we all can agree. And having a trio running around unloading dakka sounds fun as heck but having 3 of the same model just goes against the orkish code!

At the moment they're just the rough shapes, the outline of the chassis pretty much. I plan to add weathered panels, worky bitz and the mandatory dakka. Probably going to work from the bottom up. Get the treads sorted next.

Ideas and inspiration is always appreciated.

Always great to see some orky scratchbuilding. I'm looking forward how your tanks turn out

So been working on the killtanks some more, going from the floor upwards so gonna get the treads and drive done before starting to flesh out the panels and weaponry. So far it's looking good i reckon. Ignore the pins for now, they'll be clipped short when glued in place.

Tread design looted with permission from the following thread.

Spent what free time I had over the past few days fleshing out the detailing. Got the paneling done on one side. Rivets, wires and other bits and bobs to come after all the paneling is done I reckon.

As for size. It sits up pretty much perfectly against the original. Though the front is maybe half an inch thinner at the front, but I kinda like that, and can fill that out with the braces for the ram.

Been working on my Killtank that i'm going to affectionatly name "Da Slab"

The right side is pretty fleshed out, just a few more wires to dry fit, put some rivets/details on the tank treads and finish paneling on the front before I start working on the otherside or maybe top/back. So far the build is coming along pretty well.

Though, not sure if the Gigashoota has enough Dakka,

Lovely work. The gigashoota needs a grot sitting on the gun housing with some kind of piddly pistol thingy. Or go the other way and give the grot some kind of modified loota gunrig

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Thanks, i'm loving this project. Can't wait to get them out on the field and see what chaos they cause.

Now you got me wondering if I still have one of the grots from the new buggies kicking about. I'm sure they'd fit the bill perfectly. TY for the brilliant idea. When ever they take off that final wound i'll attribute it to the grot.

I love it! Not just the killtank (love the Dakka!) but the story for the grot -- I love to see this! Stories that grow as the army battles are awesome.

More work being done on the killtanks. The FW one has been partially painted in the good old Defskulls scheme, a bit of wear and tear to paint on, as well as some free hand here and there.

The scratchbuilt one is getting close to completion. Still tossing up on the horns near the top. Got glyphs and rivets to attach, as well as other odds and ends. Engine area will be the next part to finish off.

One thing that's on my mind is that the front portion is maybe a little under an inch thinner than the official model, but fattens up at the back to match the regular one, though the build is a good bit taller than the normal one which is nice. Also thinking of different ways to model the ram. A spike version like the one on the trukk model? Or maybe make a replica of the normal Killtank's? Possibly even a large deffrolla, just cause I reckon it'd look cool. As long as the footprint is pretty much right it's not like i'm modeling for advantage.

Been doing some more detailing. Added a few of the jagged ork teef that just make things look more dangerous. Started working on the plough. Probably needs more plates on the front and back. Make it look a bit thicker and more durable. The braces for it im happy enough with. The pistons go a long way of making it look more chunky. Same with the random wires beneath.

So the first of the scratch built Killtanks is pretty much complete. The only thing I can think of left is a little riveting on the wheels that are partially visible under the armoured skirting. Can you fine Meks think of anything else I can add to make those finishing touches?

So already steadily working on the Third and most likley final killtank. This time decided to make the top hatch open and do a little detail work there. Wires, glyphs and that sorta thing as well as too orks just doing their thing. Also we got big mek Flashgubbinz overseeing the work.

The ammo feed system for that amazing hull armament must be a sight to behold

I imagine it is heavily reliant on grots and orky knowots.

Great looking work all round.

This rules! Thanks for sharing. Absolutely lovely top line Orky aesthetic! One of those kill tanks needs a line of massive squigs on chains at the front instead of a bulldozer blade...

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Yeah I can only imagine the mag or hopper system they would have. Then again most of the innards of the tank are probably dedicated to it. Gives me an idea for a detail though. A hopper/shute at the back where all the spent casings get spewed out of. I'd imagine real world it'd just leave a trail of brass behind it. Imagine Gresius goldtooth from Warhammer, but bullet casings.

Yeah if i was gonna do a snakebites killtank that would probably be the style. Then again, seems like 40K orks are getting a chariot. Perhaps that could be a base?

This is looking absolutely fab - and I fully support the undertaking to make ork vehicles unique! Whilst an individual model can be brilliant, I find it soo jarring to have identical models next to each other in ork colours, as it is just so against the fluff.

Thanks for sharing

Okay, so after another couple nights of punching and riveting I think the third ork Killtank is pretty much done it's construction phase. Will probably start painting sometime during the week. Though goodness knows when the codex comes out and what changes will happen to the list. But regardless i'll probably give it a blue coat of paint for now.

Thinking I may put a little more re-enforcement at the join of the ram to the tank. Upon looking back it just seems a tiny bit weedy.

I think that it is perfect - it looks like the orks welded the barest supports on there and it is threatening to collapse at any minute, but through sheer belief it is hanging on in there!

Great work. I like what you've done with all the engine bits.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Awesome, great work. Love the grot on on the little balcony at the back, and all the dakka. Have you done loads of these before?

It looks a bit more study now, with both upper and lower supports to give it a nice, chunky welded together appearance. Will probably post pics once it's painted up.

Mr Nobody wrote:Great work. I like what you've done with all the engine bits.

Yeah while not quite as chunky and bulky as the FW tanks I think I managed to make it look like a lot of stuff is grinding and chugging under the hood.

Yeah one of the most fun things about this project was all the little touches and details I got to add. Though naturally as soon as I gave them an undercoat part of me was wishing I had hammered more gubbinz on them. And depends what you mean. Scratchbuild projects? Oh yeah quite a few. Grot tanks, dakkajets before the dakkajet kit came out. I do have a baneblade I was in the process of orkifieing. Wondering if I should go back to that project or work on some more ork terrain.

Well I'm calling the killtanks mostly done. Just a little bit of painting to do here and there. Free handing of little things like "Zog off" and kill markings, that sorta thing. Make em look like the rolling scrap piles they're meant to be.

Thanks for your kind comments and thoughts through this, it's been damn fun to make these bastards.

If i'm perfectly honest it all depends on the upcoming codex. I have no issue repainting stuff. Just lets me enjoy the act of painting stuff twice. Also these are one of the only things I have painted deffskul so it's been fun to paint with blue rather than yellow.

Awesome construction and attention to detail. Ghazskull is going to look to hire you for all his vehicle needs.
