Hey guys. ive played for like half a year total, and i am soon to get my first titantic unit, a Gargantuan Squiggoth.

But as i go over the detatchment rules, i dont fully understand it.

If i understand it correctly, i pay 3 CP to get a single titanic unit, but that unit gets no clan bonus? I cant give it evil sunz or what ever?

And that if i want it to have a clan culture, i have to get 3 titanic units and pay 6CP total.

Now I understand that in the sense of knight armies with their own codexes, but how the heck does that make sense for Orks or other factions that have only few titanic units that just wants to help their army?

Paying 6 CP should be for titanic armies that have codexes like knights, not the regular common folk like orks or what ever that wants to field a single titanic unit. That 3 CP for a titanic unit should still yield clan culture.

am i understanding it correctly? Because fielding 3 titanic units as an ork seem like a gakky idea, and fielding 1 is going to cost me 3CP and give me no culture which also mean im not getting the full value of the unit.

Hope, is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Yup, you have it correct. 9th has made fielding superheavy units an actual tradeoff rather than just MoreGudStuff.dec

Now, this still doesn't stop Knights being grossly unfair against anything not explicitly tailored to kill an army of Knights, but it's a start.

You also made the error of playing a Xenos race and not an army of Primaris™ Marines Incepradictors™™™™.

If you're looking for a better game to use your Superheavy units in, I'd highly recommend looking into Apocalypse. It's an objectively better game system.

They seem super unfair to me.

I want to field my Gargantuan Squiggoth (and i will, for seemingly 3CP) but i should still get a culture for my unit.

Could you imagine if i went full haywire and paid 6CP for 3 titanic guys? What army would that even look like, it would look silly and be terrible.

The only thing that would make sense is like 3 Kill tanks because they are cheap.

Hope, is the first step on the road to disappointment.

It is a huge cost to be honest, especially as it affects both superheavies considered competitive (Knight Castellan, Brass Scorpion) as well as those which are absolute garbage (Malcador, Stormhammer, etc).

To be honest, in a friendly game I would personally let you use the clan trait. I can imagine BCB prepping a response of "well that's not the rules" but it makes them a little bit better and for a more fun experience for both of us.

It is unfair, you are right. Super Heavies other than Knights are a liability right now frankly. Hopefully this gets addressed down the line, but on the other hand Super Heavies are a really difficult thing to balance in a 2k point game, so I can understand erring on the side of caution.

I'd look at super heavies more as display pieces or for just for fun/narrative games than anything else right now though.

Like others have said it's more to stop Soup lists with Knights.

In a friendly game hopefully your opponent won't have any issues ignoring the rule and let you include it as part of your clan ask long as it makes sense (eg Squiggoth with Evil Sunz isn't fluffy)

I think the reason that single Lord of Wars are prevented from gaining the benefits from sub-faction rules is that makes it too easy to sprinkle in the exact right sub-faction. For every player who says "my army is Evil Sunz, so my LOW is also" there is a player who will say "my army is Evil Sunz, but my LOW is Bad Moons for the re-roll 1s on shooting".

but does that matter?

For the same CP i could bring an entire batallion as something else like deathskulls. why should this be any different. But it wouldnt be hard to fix at all, they could just release an FAQ that states the auxillary super heavy detatchment unit must have the same detatchment rules as the warlord detatchment.

Honestly I just wish they'd made it so you could add a LOW slot to an existing Detachment for a small CP cost, so it could share their traits. If you wanted one with different traits, you could spend even more CP to add a LOW separately.
