Hello friends,

Recently I have got the itch to get back into 40K after about a twelve year long break. I took advantage of the free trial of the 40K app to brush up on the new rules and read what is available from the codexes. I used to play CSM, IG, and Daemons, but this time around I really like the aesthetic of the Adepta Sororitas and their rule set seems pretty unique. I have put together this tentative list before ordering any models to make sure it is viable. I'm not looking for it to be super tournament ready or min maxed, but pretty balanced to get started with a small army.

Having been away from the hobby for so long, I am new to the ideas of detachments, command points, battle forged, etc. I believe this list is battle forged and I've just selected one detachment for simplicity because I'm not sure what the advantage of choosing multiple would be. I am also unsure of the current meta, but my idea for the list is that the Repentia go into the rhinos with the Canoness to get stuck in quickly, while the seraphim can deep strike to deal with particularly tough units and tanks, the Battle Sisters also advance slowly for anti tank, and the Dominions and Penitent Engines are for anti horde.

From perusing other Adepta Sororitas lists in the forum, people seem to minimize the number and loadout of troop units which seems odd to me. Last time I played was about halfway through fifth edition and that was a very troop oriented edition.

Anyways, please advise if this seems like a reasonable list to start building towards and any particular suggestions or general advice about running an Adepta Sororitas army.

Thank you.

Looks okay to me... not a sisters player so a more seasoned vet might be more valuable to you? But I wouldn’t wanna fight you at 1k

I would give the multimelta sisters squads a simacrilum rather than a cherub, and give the whole army a beacon of faith, rather than indomitable belief. Maybe just my playstyle, but that seems a better payoff and synergy. The only reason being, 2 miracles per unit per firing phase is very likely to meet the low bar of getting a 4+ to hit (on the move, heavy weapon) and with multimeltas' extra damage up to 12 inches, two hits with crappy miracle dice are pobably better than one with a good one.

Rhinos are now 80pts so with the hunter killers they are 85pts. With that many repentia adding a priest would be a wise choice.
I also prefer mortifiers with heavy bolters and flails over penitants. At 60pts a pop these walkers are the superior choice.
For your cannoness the relic chainsword Beneficience is an amazing option.

I was thinking Indomitable Belief would give the Repentia a bit more durability because they seem extremely glass cannon like, but maybe the difference between a 6++ and a 5++ isn't worth it. Getting more miracle dice sounds good, I think it will just take some experience before I get a feel for how to value them and what to use them on. Your explanation for getting in more hits in with multimeltas and simulacrum makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Beneficence does look really good and it would save some points by taking off the blessed blade, thanks. A preacher is a great suggestion too. I think if I cut one of the walkers and take the hunter killers off the Rhinos I should be able to fit one in. The issue is I think that will exceed the number of elite slots in the patrol detachment? If I move up to brigade then I would need to field an additional HQ and troop unit which would require broader reconfiguration to fit in under 1000 points. Are mortifiers considered better just because they are faster or are heavy bolters that much better than heavy flamers? I guess I don't have any long range fire support as is, so mortifiers might fill a good role, I just like the penitent engine models a lot better

Why did the Rhino point value change? I also noticed the app deleted all of my lists for some reason so maybe there was an update that wiped everything.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Indomitable Belief on a character buffing Repentias is definitely a solid option. Beacon of Faith is an extremely useful trait but it doesn't work on an embarked model, and it's wasted on a character that might die after 1-2 turns of action as Repentia are heavy hitters that vanish after doing their job; it's definitely more appropriate for a character that starts on the battlefield and is left behind, away from the action, typically something supporting infantry shooty units or exorcists or alternatively Celestine who is reasonably tanky to last long enough to make good use of her trait.

Canoness with Beneficience is an excellent suggestion, she's a beast for just 50 points.

Rhino was 2ppm cheaper than SM one for unknown reasons, now they're exactly the same price. Simulacrum Imperialis is now a free upgrade, bring as many as possible!

That's a nice tip, I would not have thought about that. I'll definitely consider Beacon of Faith for more gun line builds down the road where the Canoness can stay back.

That's a great upgrade, I'll certainly include Simulacrums. It seems all these changes basically make the codex obsolete compared to the app, as the changes in points values aren't reflected in the FAQ. Is there another source for these updates that I'm not aware of or do I just have to stay indefinitely subscribed to the app to stay up to date? It feels like there are a huge number of books, magazine articles, etc. I need to be constantly aware of to know what the rules actually are, which is very confusing. Everything seemed so much simpler in 4th/5th Edition.

I agree that it was simpler and slower moving back in 4th and 5th edition. I'm feeling a bit of player burnout with the rapid changes now in 9th. On the other hand, it is nice that the game is kept fresh and changing... and at least some of the points updates and new rules keeps the game more reasonable and more balanced.

The points updates were in their own FAQ, called Munitorum Field Manual. You can find it here.

Also, your army is shaping up to be very nice. Keep it up and good luck with the painting!
