How do?

So as part of my well rounded Nerd lifestyle, in addition to TTG, LARP and films and that, I’m also rather partial to toy collecting.

For once not a Completist Weirdo, I tend to pick up vintage stuff that I like the look of, and find at a decent price. And I don’t dabble in the world of MOC or MIB, which of course helps keep the price down.

At the moment, my interest is piqued by the Kenner Ghostbuster’s range from the late 80’s early 90’s. So far I’ve a near complete set of Haunted Humans (not keen on Air Sickness, as it’s somehow less than the sum of its parts). And on the way, a complete set of Fright Features (including a completely intact Egon) which I won on eBay for a fairly meagre £27.00 last night.

I’m also partial to Transformers. Typically G1, but also resculpts of G1 designs. Reissues top of course.

I did collect Star Wars figures, but between the low quality of Sequel figures (why back to 5 point articulation) and scalpers, I’m mostly dabbling and very selective. Main pride and joy as mg]y 6” Black Series Mando’s. Managed to more or less get in on the ground floor for those designs, so haven’t missed out.

Anyone else partake of this hobby? If so, what tickles your fancy?

I have a ton of the re-released Star Wars figures all the way through Shadow of the Empire. Then I stopped.

I do have a Xena and Autolychus: King of Thieves action figure kicking around too.

Have a reasonable quantity of Star Wars, He-Man, M.A.S.K., Transformers...

Well, I still have a ton of ye olde space Legos from when I was a wee 'un.
Now my own wee 'uns are coming to an age where they like to play with it, so I've gone and gotten some more 80s space lego stuff to add to what I already had (read: gave me an excuse to buy).
Don't know if that counts as collecting though.

This thread really does need some pictures. Maybe I will dig a few out and take some photos this weekend.

I have quite a few LEGO things, including Star Wars and some older space stuff (not the 1980s ones though). My brother has a pretty much complete collection of all the Wild West sets from the 1990s.

True that. But I’d need a photo bucket type account.

Instead, I can share stock photos I guess?

Here’s what I have for Ghostbusters at the moment.

Haunted Humans. Dunno why I’m quite so keen on these. There’s just something very fun about them. Spesh Granny Gross.

Fright Features Ghostbusters I’m struggling to find a decent group shot of online. But there’s likewise just something about them, and probably the entire Real Ghostbusters range. Size wise, they’re a bit bigger and chunkier than vintage Star Wars. But the creativity shown, particularly in the ghosts is wonderful!

I used to collect toys before my stupid "Growing up" phase in college where i got rid of all the things i feared might look stupid/weird Biggest fething regret of my life.
Protip to anyone going to college, dont do that, put your stuff you dont want to show in a box and look at it after college, if you still like it, keep it, if you dont sell it.
I have been thinking about looking into restoring vintage toys, my family has a few, and i have a few collections of my favorite

Payday Friday, so planning this month’s purchases.

Nothing in mind GW wise, so expanding the collection. Have sourced the following Ghostbusters classics.

Got dibs on Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston, all complete with ghost and gadgets. Price is pretty reasonable from other research, so looking forward to adding them to the collection, especially as it seems Egon’s helmet is often missing or damaged.

Dude also has a regular Fright Features Janine. I’m kinda torn on adding her. No real reason other than her and Louis being firmly B List in my own mind. Guess it’ll depend on the price, and the negotiation.

Other than that, nothing much more planned - but my eye is always out for a bargain should one present.

I'd forgotten about those Ghostbusters. I definitely used to have the old lay, football player, and garbage man. Good memories.

I got rid of a lot of my toys in high school. There's stuff that would be nice to have but my collections aren't exactly something that would have done me much good. I really played with my toys so its not like they were in great shape.

Starting in college I got pretty good about getting a small number of favorites that never got to the point where I needed to get rid of. I've got like, the McFarlane Vash the Stampede, a really nice Unit 01, the Unleashed Vader/Luke, a Megaman, Ryu, Cecil, stuff like that. A few classics like Optimus and a couple Gunpla. There are definitely other areas where I find myself with overblown collections.

I have a similar Lego collection. I get a few sets a year, usually Star Wars stuff but for a while I was really loving what they were doing with the architecture line and the Ideas brand creates some real gems. The Voltron kit nicely replaced one of the toys I'm a little sad I got rid of.

I rebought the greatest toys EVAH a few years back (note, a few years back refers to any year post 2000).

Baron Karza and Force Commander!

I wonder has ebay and Amazon made this hobby less fun? There's none of that feeling 'I must buy this now I may never find it again' it had when I was hunting for stuff in the early 90s. Now it's all search and click and get it in the mail in a week.

So not really my cup of tea ATM, but do miss the thrill of the hunt.

Transformers, which I'm getting kind of burned out on solely because funds aren't there to keep up. It used to be a year or two of stuff I liked with 3 or 4 years of garbage movie toys and whatever uncreative cartoon toys. Nowadays it's Generations nonstop.

I'd also love to chase down a complete set of Ultraforce toys as well as all the Star Trek Micro Machines. If Hasbro and Marvel had slipped even ONE Ultraverse character into their 3.75 in. Marvel Universe line, I'd have bought damn near the whole line.

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

It’s certainly made it more accessible, but in turn has inflated prices considerably. It’s not exactly price collusion by sellers, so much as more freely available info on possible value.

Some listings are sheer greed (especially carded stuff), and it has made it difficult to find stuff in the wild. But bootfairs (when there’s not a plague on, natch) can still turn up gems. Just a case of getting there before the pros!

Part of the problem too is that it's easy for someone to go on ebay and look at prices and think what they have is worth what things are listed at. Before if someone had a bunch of old stuff they'd either donate it or sell it at a yardsale or sell it to a store. Now a lot of people think they can sell their own stuff and want to get top dollar for stuff that isn't worth top dollar.

But you also have speculators/scalpers who will buy up everything they can so they can charge a premium.

I was fortunate that I was able to keep all my stuff from when I was a kid. I've sold a bunch of stuff that I don't care about that much and am trying to only keep what actually care about. Just found a box from my parents' house that had the instructions for G1 Roadbuster and Time Warrior, so now I can sell those complete.

While I don't actively collect, it amazes me how much stuff aimed at adult collectors has been made. When traveling for work I like to look for comic/games/toy stores and see what they have and it does not cease to amaze me how much has been made and how much the new stuff costs.

And just as I thought I was done with Ghostbusters? Hasbro announce wave 2 of the Kenner Classics line, in the form of Ecto-1 (self explanatory) Fearsome Flush (a haunted toiler, and clearly one of the best things ever) and Bug Eye Ghost.

Got mine on pre-order from IDtoys, though other online retailers are available.

Really looking forward to these, as they can be a bit pricey and of varying quality second hand. Echo-1 in particular suffers from 80’s white plastic yellowing, even if you can find a complete one.

And if I’m getting Ecto-1, guess I’ll be sourcing the Classics line for the four original figures too.

Anyways. My other plastic crack dealer is now carrying joy toys. I don’t know much about them as a company, but the two Mechs they’ve got for pre-order might up someone’s street. I’m actually quite tempted, because they’ve got loads of gubbins, and I do love my gubbins,

I've got a ton of 3.75" SW figures, but they're not boxed or necessarily even complete and they're all available for my son to play with.

As "Vintage series" have gone up in price and disappeared from stores I've slowed my new purchases almost entirely, but there's a great toy store in Chicago with bins of loose figs for a couple bucks and walls of packaged (mostly less than $10) so when I see an interesting character (usually background or minor) I'll buy it and add it too the shelf. 5-Below has been a great source these last couple years too.

Thank heavens for Ali-Express cloned GI Joe weapons and SW figure bases and or I'd be spending more on bases and weapons than figures!

In addition to Star Wars, I've still got a fair amount of GIJoe, ExoSquad and Battletech toys from my childhood but those are also slowly migrating to my son.
