Hey all, I hope it is appropriate to post weird war related items here as well. I started to work on this historical fiction weird world war two game about a month ago and am adapting it from one of my earlier skirmish wargames I designed. Things are coming along very well and I have seen significant progress. Attached is the first zombie miniature that will be in the game. More news and info to come soon.

Some more info on the game:
Escape from Stalingrad Z is a Weird World War II historical fiction game designed for solo and coop game. If the escape from the hell fire of Stalingrad was not enough, now you have zombies to contend with. German and Soviet soldiers team up together to survive the apocalypse.
The game plays out over a set of linked Missions that form a Campaign. Each previous engagement in the Campaign will affect the start of the next. Set in the last months of the Stalingrad conflict, there are many factors to overcome if your troopers are to survive. Low ammunition, wounds, lack of food and the bitter cold are your enemies as much as your opponent. Each of your soldiers is a unique character with attributes and skills as well as a background story. The survival of your troops depends upon your ability to conserve resources and exploit your enemy’s weaknesses. You will need to choose your battles wisely; sometimes stealth is more important than firepower.
The action occurs on a battlefield consisting of one or more terrain boards representing the ruined cityscape of Stalingrad. Map boards depict bombed out factories, rubble streets, destroyed homes and more. Each Mission will detail how to lay out the boards and what objectives are necessary to be victorious. The going will be tough and not all will survive.

Working on the Character Card. Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

May want to move this to the Games Design section of the board. That is where other designers frequent and they may have more commentary.

My biggest thought is how are you going to make this zombie game unique and interesting compared to the other Weird War and Zombie games out there?

I love the thought of a true skirmish Weird WW II system, however. I'll look for your post in the other section man.

Thanks for your input and question, it is a really great one. I will likely share it there too but I like to get input from players who are not part of the actual game business.

I have been looking for other WWII zombie board games but have only found Weird War ones what include a lot of other stuff. For my part this is a boxed set with everything you need to play in the one box.

It is a campaign style system where each mission has ramifications on future ones.

Instead of playing with platoon size battles Stalingrad Z is 6-9 soldiers and each has a character card with attributes, slots for carrying equipment, a background story, special skills and more. So each character is a bit more rounded that just a figure on the board.

For us the zombies will have a scientific origin instead of a supernatural one.

Stalingrad Z will have old enemies working together to defeat the zombie horde, Germans and Russians fighting side by side.

Not only are you fighting the zombies but you must withstand the cold and hunger, each having an impact upon your soldiers health, morale and combat ability.

Also, not sure if any of the others have a dedicated Solo play. If they do please let me know which ones have it.

In the game you can play the missions as one off of course, but it is much more fun in the campaign mode. If there is anything you would like to see in a new game please let me know. Perhaps it is a good idea that can be included in this one.

cheers

Thanks, not to worry, there will be continued posts here, revealing the development process, miniatures and more.

Cheers

Thank you for elaborating! It sounds like you have thought about how to make this a different experience and I appreciate your ideas much better now.

Is he supposed to be a hero model. I think a bit more character to him like maybe a bandage or something or a more expression face in worry or shouting something.

That is a great idea regarding the bandage and expression. For the final sculpt I will be sure to include it.

If this is for a small hero based game definitely. Each one should tell a story of some kind. Maybe no helmet for him. Blonde headed with an eye covered over in a bandage. Instantly tells a story. Maybe add a medal or something.

I got my first test prints for my WWII zombie wargame I am designing. I had a chance to paint them up yesterday. There are 5 different zombies sculpted so far. Which one do you like best?
