When I returned to painting and modelling minis, I decided on a unified basing for all of them and have settled on using steel washers (they have weight, are thin so not that visible on the table, cheap, and react well with magnets!) but this has left me with a little issue. I have a huge pile of old bases, round, square, and a few weirder ones from different models. I would say that it's a good box full of them and I'm thinking about what to do with the things. Selling seems to be a little much in the way of effort and I fear that no one really needs them, which leaves me wondering, does anyone have some good ideas?

Oh Canada!

Bases are always needed by many hobbyists. I doubt you'd have any trouble at all selling them. Otherwise I'd just keep any extra bases just like extra bits - sometime in the future you might find out you need them.

the square ones are prob more valuable than the round as they're not made anymore.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

You can still find square bases out there. They may not be GW ones, but they're out there.

Having said that, yes, you can sell them. Plenty of people buy 3rd party minis that don't come with bases to use for playing games that require bases. Others sell minis for those games without bases. And sometimes bases just break and people need replacements.

You might also want to store them for future need, for whatever reason. Making objective markers, terrain, basing 2nd-hand minis that didn't come with bases, etc.

If selling is too much of a hassle for the money and you're sure you won't need them, there's always recycling. But there are people out there who will want them, so that seems to be a shame, and in many places 'recycled' material is just tossed into the dump.

Up to you, really, but at least investigate selling. You might be surprised how much you'll get for the lot of them and make it worth doing.
