With the new DA supplement (not here for rules breakdowns) do the rules in the SM codex still apply or are they now erased and covered by what’s coming in the supplement I.e the chapter approved rules for the devastator doctrine? I noticed it’s not in the new supplement (or I missed it) so can anyone shed light on this? With the BA I’m not sure if they dealt with this before?

You need both the SM codex and DA Supplement to play with a DA Army. The DA Supplement only has rules for DA unique units, for units like Tactical Squads or Citadel™ Primaris™ Adeptus™ Astartes™ Inflorptor™ NounVerbs™ you need the SM codex. This is true for all the loyalist SM armies other than Grey Knights.

The rules for Combat Doctrines are in the SM codex, the rules in Chapter Approved regarding Combat Doctrines are not relevant anymore.

With the 9th edition SM codex, the SW, BA, DW, and DA codexes were invalidated in their entirety. You need to use the SM codex and the Supplement to play those armies. With the release of the DA supplement, that will be all the supplements released, and the Indexes used for stopgaps are also invalid to use.

The only (loyalist) SM army to keep their 8th edition Codex are Grey Knights, all the others are Codex: Space Marines + Supplement.

Ok so my DA still have the buffs in the devastator doctrine that are in the main SM codex even though they aren’t in the supplement? Cause I know those are Deathwing/ravenwing specific besides saying that dark angels can shoot in close combat using 5+ to hit I wanna make sure if I do the extra range on the weapons mentioned for doctrines in SM codex I want breaking any rules that aren’t existing anymore.

Yes, and you can still use the strategems in the main SM Codex (if the strats dont restrict themselves to <Imperial Fist> for example.

Yes, this means your DA now have a LOAD of special rules and access to things like Thunderfire cannons which historically we have not been able to use and have access to most of the relics too.

Grim resolve (the chapter tactic) still applies as does the combat doctrines rules (the ones in the DA supplement are extra rules on top of these).

Lots and lots of options for DA armies now

This is great news! Can’t wait to start testing out new combinations of my army and being able to fully field my old 2K Deathwing and Ravenwing armies with objective secured! It will be a wierd getting used to couple of games but I think it will be one of the strongest armies in the game!(so far)
