DA supplement (not here for rules breakdowns) do the rules in the
SM codex still apply or are they now erased and covered by what’s coming in the supplement I.e the chapter approved rules for the devastator doctrine? I noticed it’s not in the new supplement (or I missed it) so can anyone shed light on this? With the
BA I’m not sure if they dealt with this before?
You need both the
SM codex and
DA Supplement to play with a
DA Army. The
DA Supplement only has rules for
DA unique units, for units like Tactical Squads or Citadel™ Primaris™ Adeptus™ Astartes™ Inflorptor™ NounVerbs™ you need the
SM codex. This is true for all the loyalist
SM armies other than Grey Knights.
The rules for Combat Doctrines are in the
SM codex, the rules in Chapter Approved regarding Combat Doctrines are not relevant anymore.
With the 9th edition
SM codex, the
SW,
BA,
DW, and
DA codexes were invalidated in their entirety. You need to use the
SM codex and the Supplement to play those armies. With the release of the
DA supplement, that will be all the supplements released, and the Indexes used for stopgaps are also invalid to use.
The only (loyalist)
SM army to keep their 8th edition Codex are Grey Knights, all the others are Codex: Space Marines + Supplement.
