Just wondering if there are any ex Shadowbane players on this forum?

I have fond memories of playing this game back in 2004. It’s not for the faint hearted, PvP is pretty much the whole point of the game, with its guilds and player run cities. Some of my fondest memories were in joining groups that would go to areas controlled by other guilds and gank some low level farmers, taking their hard earned gold. A 5 man group of level 20 players doesn’t last long against a 10 man group of level 50 players

Of course in this game you have to be willing to take it as well as dish it out. I came unstuck many times, venturing into neutral zones in the search for runes and coming across a rival group, meeting a quick and messy demise. Still, if you know what you’re getting into there’s a lot to love about Shadowbane. I tried various MMOs before I stumbled across Shadowbane, including the World of Warcraft open beta. Shadowbane was definitely by far my favourite of all the games I tried.

So it turns out that Shadowbane is now on Steam, now under new ownership, after closing its doors back in 2009. The game is pretty much the same as it was then, for better or for worse. If you haven’t played this game before bear in mind that it hasn’t had a significant graphical upgrade, as far as I can tell the UI hasn’t had much of an upgrade either. So it might be a bit jarring, especially for those who are not looking at it through nostalgia tinted glasses like I am.

The game has already had some criticism for the ability to buy gold and other things with real money. I don’t think that will be a big issue though, as far as I can tell most of what you can buy can be acquired in game without the need to open your wallet beyond the initial purchase. The game is free to play by the way, no monthly fee. Like I say though you do need to buy the game on Steam though.

Anyway, just thought I’d draw some attention to the game, for any ex players who aren’t aware it has made a comeback. I’m only a couple of hours into the game myself, but I’m sure I’ll be farming, joining guilds, raiding and ganking noobs in short order

I am an ex Shadowbane player. Crazy it is on steam. I may have to pick it up and give it a download.

I played it briefly back when it was new, it was kinda fun but on the servers I played on anyway it was just gank-central. Just got annoying after a while, i prefer my MMOs to be all about adventuring and I'd rather just play a FPS when I wanna get some frags.

I’m pretty sure all the servers were gank central. That’s pretty much the aim of the game. I appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, Shadowbane certainly was (is?) a niche product.
