Hello,

After years of being inspired by tons of painting blogs across this site and others, I have finally decided to take the plunge and start my own!

My plan for this blog is to start by posting some of my most recent painting projects with my thoughts on the game/models/project. Once I have caught up on my recent projects, I aim to post ~weekly with what I have painted.

However, having never done something like this before, I wanted to test out a picture or two before I jump all of the way in. If I'm doing it right, that should be in the next post...

Test picture time...

Here are two of my favorite recent models: A pair of Relicblade Gilblins.

Woohoo--it worked. Now for my first real post!

Project 1: Relicblade

I stumbled across Relicblade thanks to Guerrilla Miniatures and its a model line that I absolutely love. I still haven't actually played the game yet, but I have collected quite a few of his miniatures and painted several of my favorites. The model line has a cartoon-like quality that I find charming and the models are relatively easy to paint. They have just enough detail without going overboard on miscellaneous trinkets and doodads. I particularly love his dwarves and so they were my first purchases and some of the first Relicblade models that I painted.

My gaming group plans on playing Relicblade as our first game back once we can finally meet again, so I look forward to trying it out. I also have the newest kickstarter on the way, so I can see myself painting quite a few of these guys over the next few months.

Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Arboleth Sentinel: 90% badass, 10% leaf beard

2. Moldorf Dwarves: Genuinely some of my favorite dwarf models of all time.

3. Wild Elf Geomancer: This model isn't quite as nice as the others. I really struggled with her face and while she looks ok, I'm not in love with her. Her rules look amazing though, so I hope to try her out soon.

4. Bone Fury: The Relicblade undead are really interesting models and this one is probably my favorite.

5. Bone Stalkers: More undead.

That's it for tonight.

Hello again,

For my next project, I've moved from a little Indie game to the big boy (or girl in this case) on campus: 40k Adeptas Sororitas.

I first started playing Sisters of Battle back when the Witch Hunters codex came out and while I wasn't very good at the game, I absolutely loved the army and the playstyle. I skipped a few editions, but jumped back in once the plastic sisters were announced. For a color scheme, I chose OML after watching JuanHidalgo's Contrast Sisters of Battle youtube video. He is a much more talented painter than I am, but I was able to emulate his scheme fairly well and am proud of my attempt. My goal for this army is to build up to a Crusade army and then add on a unit or two here and there until I get to 2000 points (hopefully by the end of 2021).

Side note: I did not realize how well my camera+light box would pick up every speck of dust on these models. In person, you can't see any of it, but it really jumps out at you in these pictures. Moving forward, I will do a better job of dusting the models before snapping pictures.

Cannoness 1: This is arguably my favorite of the new Sisters models. She has a regal and ornate appearance while still maintaining a stern and powerful appearance. Note: There is a little piece of static grass in her cowl that has since been removed.

Cannoness 2: This is built straight from the new Cannoness kit but with a different head from one of the other kits. I'm not sure if this configuration is tactically the best choice, but I love the look.

Imagifier and Cherub: This is another of my favorite models. The angle formed by the sword and the banner pole bothers me a bit, but the rest of the model is very nice.

Sisters Squads: As said above, these squads were painted using JuanHidalgo's youtube tutorial. They turned out pretty well, but I struggled with how to paint the visors. You can see some of that in the pictures:

Cherubs: The middle one is a repeat from the Imagifier picture. I really like these little guys and they paint up very quickly.

Celestians: My celestians are my most elaborate conversions so far for this army. I tried just swapping to the celestian helmet, but I really wanted my celestians to stand out more. So, I settled on this option. I am really proud of how these models have come out and I have 5 more that are in different stages of being built/painted.

Thank you all for looking!

Welcome! Great looking minis. Relicblade is not one you see often, so that's cool in and of itself. Sisters look sweet. Classic color scheme done well.

Hey mate, awesome start to a blog! Lovely mix of minis all with really clean paintjobs - nice colour choices and highlighting!

Relicblade are new to me - those dwarven sculpts in particular are really cool.

Basing is icing on the cake. Will be following this with interest!

Hello,

Thank you all for the kind words. I wanted to start this blog by showing a few pictures of recent projects, but moving forward, I'm hoping for weekly updates of what I've painted the previous week and what I plan on painting the next.

This week I've painted...

After 2+ months of only painting 40k models, I decided to take a break and paint something different. I debated between Relicblade, Frostgrave and Marvel Crisis Protocol and ended up going with MCP because my backlog of unpainted (and unbuilt) models is getting ridiculous. I wanted to focus on painting leaders and members of incomplete factions so that I had plenty of options once I get a chance to try it. Also, when I do get around to trying it, my group will all be using my models, so I need a good number of factions to be ready.

Kingpin: Technically, I'm cheating here as he wasn't painted this week, but he was the last MCP model I painted. Combined with the next two, he opens up the Criminal Syndicate faction.

Bullseye: I read a lot of old Daredevil comics this year and grew to really like Bullseye as a character. I like how this model turned out, but feel that he looks a lot better in person than in pictures. The highlights were really picked up to an extreme degree by my camera.

Green Goblin: This is a really nice model and looks to be quite fun in the game. He opens up the Spider Foes faction.

Spiderman (Miles): Great character and great sculpt. Combined with Gwen and the original Spiderman, he allows me to play Web Warriors while leaving Venom open for Spider Foes.

Ghost Spider: I don't know a ton about the character (outside of the Spiderverse movie), but she has a great model and was fun to paint.

Loki: Loki was probably one of my least favorite MCP models, but I like him a lot more now that he is painted. I still need to paint a third Asgardian (to go with Loki and Thor), before I can play that faction.

Mystique: My first Brotherhood mini. She is also a member of Cabal, so that's where she'll go until I paint up Magneto and Toad.

Celestian with Multimelta: She was half-complete last week, so I went ahead and finished her. 12 sisters and 1 Exorcist to go and my Crusade army is ready.

Next Week...

I'm hoping to finish either my last 4 Celestians or last 5 Repentia. If I have time, I want to keep the MCP train going by painting Daredevil or Wolverine.

Thank you!

Hello again,

While the last two weeks have been a bit crazy, I was reasonably productive and actually managed to paint 17 models. Granted, that number is a bit inflated by how easy the last project was, but I'm happy with my progress. In total, I painted 27 models in February, which included: 6 MCP superheroes, a Canoptek Doomstalker, 12 sisters of battle, one test Frostgrave model, and 7 ships/objectives for A Billion Suns. In March, my only real goal is to finish the Sister Crusade army (6 models+Exorcist to go). Beyond that, I have a few primed models that have sat on my desk for a while, so I'll mostly be painting whatever strikes me in the moment.

Now for pictures...

Sisters Repentia Squad: These models were surprisingly enjoyable to paint. I normally struggle with skin, but I think I found a method that works for me. I tried to keep them pale and dirtier looking than my regular sisters. Hopefully I pulled it off and it doesn't look sloppy.

Battle Sisters: I finished my last three regular battle sisters to fill out my troops. Nothing too special here, but I am very happy with the Simulacrum.

Celestians: Only managed to finish one of the last four models for this squad. I converted and painted up the Sister Superior out of the Dialogus and bits from Seraphim and Battle Sisters. I forgot to take a picture of just her, but here is the mostly complete squad.

A Billion Suns: I have been looking forward to this game since it was first announced and picked up an assortment of Brigade Games miniatures to mess around with. I played two single player games earlier this week using Star Trek Attack Wing models and found the game to be enjoyable, but the single player beta rules to be a mixed bag. Hopefully, I'll be able to try a real 1v1 game sometime soon.

Light Utility Ships: While I have a ton of Attack Wing ships, I don't have anything that represents Light Utility ships. So, these were first on the painting table. Very simple paint jobs but I am happy with them.

Satellites: Not so happy with these unfortunately. The models are fine, but I made a bit of a mess out of them. I started by painting them in the same scheme as my Utility ships, but found them to be very drab and they didn't stick out enough for objectives. I then tried highlighting them to make them brighter, but they looked worse. I continued to mess with them for a while and ended up with something that is just good enough for me to not bother stripping and redoing.

Thank you for looking,

Thank you!

Most of the Celestians are converted from the Triumph of Saint Katherine attendants. I bits ordered the bodies over a few months (when they would pop up on ebay) and then used a arms/hands from the Battle Sisters and Retributor kits. The sister superior is made from a Dialogus with various bits added in from other kits.
