Greetings fellow writers. As the thread title asks, how many people went for it last Halloween? For those who didn't hear, the Black Library had an open submission window for horror stories set in either the AoS or 40K universe. As I recall, they said they would contact everyone who submitted and you should expect to hear back within maybe 100 days or something like that? Well, that time has long passed.

I submitted a story, but I'm under no illusions about my chances. It seems like maybe one new writer per year gets their chance, and who knows what happens to them after that?

Good luck to all who risked taking a shot.

Edited the poll to add a "what submission window?" response.

I didnt know about this, so obviously didn't submit anything but I'd be interested to hear from those who did. Imagine the slush pile though! It must be thousands of entries.

Horror is not my strong suit, it's about the farthest thing from it in fact. If ever they ask for submissions of underdog humour set in the greenskin culture of 2nd edition 40k I'll be there with bells on.

Next time I find out about something I'll make a post on here. It was blind luck that I heard about it at all.

You're right, Emperor alone knows how many emails they get these days. Am pretty sure someone said they got 1500 responses to an Inferno! submissions window, and that was fifteen years ago.

Coronavirus no doubt chucked a spanner in the works. The UK government's response has caused so much confusion and so many problems for so many people, it's a wonder we still have power and water over here. A short story contest won't be BL's main worry.

You want to try Northern Ireland mate. U.K. Gov just tried to bin us off! At least with all the lockdown time on our hands we have loads more time to write fiction and submit it to black library. It'll all pandemic horror. Skaven Plague monks and Nurgle virus bombs.

I don't for the life of me know why Boris didn't step up, be like Churchill who he so admires and bring the UK together as one to fight the virus. What a glorious chance for us all to work together in one cause, squandered by a buffoon.

Well Churchill tried to bin us off too but let's not talk politics. We're here to discuss FICTIONAL horrors afterall.

Lets not touch politics here, there's no point.

Fair point, my apologies gentlemen.

Looks like most people didn't know about the BL submissions window?
