I've been slowly putting together a chaos army themed around some of The Fallen. And because I love everything grim and dark, the fool I am, decided to try photographing an army with a dark colour scheme on a black background. It is downright nerve wracking how every little speck of dust is picked on a black felt background.

Not 100% sold on the new sorc helmet, but in general loving the look. Very nice conversions/colors, they read well.

And yes, I like using black backgrounds, but they are a pain to photograph on

Yea, it was suppose to look something like this
Spoiler:

But I'm still a bit new to sculpting and I learned the hard way the greenstuff doesn't like to have holes drilled into it. So it looks a little soft and lumpy.

Cheat like the pros do. Don't photograph on black, edit the background later and make it black (or 'off-black').

Greetings Mr Nobody, In my humble opinion you have created an excellent example of what Fallen Dark Angels should look like.

If Interrogator-Chaplains saw those guys, they would be going totally bonkers!

were the hoods / cloaks / tabards on the CSM kits all sculpted by you? Edit: just noticed some are the old Dark Angels Company Veterans heads

Overall they look really great. I've flirted with making a small fallen army but never could decide what kit to use for a base--I don't like how overtly "chaosy" the CSM kit looks, but you've dialed it down.

Excellent looking Fallen and great use of the new CSM kit, you've blended pre-heresy DA well with the current CSM look.

Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, a lot of the hoods and cloaks I sculpted myself. The DA veteran kit is nice for bits, but they're really starting to show their age compared to newer and bigger proportions in the newer kits. If you're willing to put in the extra work the chaos kit or the new primaris are much better looking.

The HH from FW are a great source of bits if you want to make a choas force less demonic. All those different kits can get a tad expensive though...

For black backgrounds: Get an A3/A2 sized black carton from a crafting store. By carton I mean paper but slightly thicker, dunno what the correct word is in English. The stuff you would cut up to make a christmas card.

Easy to place in an arc against a wall. Gives you a seamless background without wrinkles, and also easy to wipe dust off.

I've tried that before and I found it wasn't matte enough and flashed back a lot of light. I think I need to try and move my background further away. More experimentations is called for.

These are fantastic brother! I'm building a Fallen force myself, mixing kits together, but I have to say yours look super coehesive and are truly something to be proud of. These will act as great inspiration for my own. Do you plan on playing with them? And what else do you see yourself adding? I have a cataphractii terminator lord, 2 squads of troops, some chosen, a rhino and the dark vengence terminators. I think I'll play them as alpha legion eventually, although I did here there maybe something tasty in the next white dwarf (May) for renegades and fallen, so that might be something to check out !

thanks for the compliments!

I just heard about the new white dwarf article. I'll definitely be picking that up. God, I hope they haven't changed the loadout options.

I have second, five man squad and I'm aiming to bump them up to ten. I bought some space knight pieces from kromlech and I'm hoping to mix them with some GW pieces. Sculpting robes by hand is exhausting.

Those DA terminators on FW look amazing and with a little work, they could look like the Fallen. A tad expensive though...

My biggest hurdle is fixing that five man squad I have. I completely misread the options for special weapons a melee and I now I have to find a way to fix them. Sigh time to pull out the saws and clippers.
