Hello, I am thinking of attempting to go to school to spend the rest of my life doing this as a career.

Has anyone doing this as a career heard of a no-skill 40 year old getting schooled up to work as a sailor with a skill set on the ocean?

I am currently retired but would really like to do something with my life.

This career seems like something really good.

I have no military experience and very limited education -

Retired at 40?! Jeez. I say go for it though. Im not navy but I love the military life. I can't see the merchant navy being bothered about that, provided you're willing to learn and out the effort in...

While I don't have any experience, my gut feeling would be to have a full medical checkup before committing to anything, just to make sure you're fit and shipshape.

Also bear in mind as you're in the US that there are several opportunities for merchant marines on the Great Lakes as well...

Definitely not too old. I work in the maritime industry and many in the industry come to it as a second career.

Depending on what you want to get out of it, and other factors it is absolutely possible to make this change at 40.

If you want specifics and other information PM me.
