Hello Denizens of the Dark City,

I'm trying to figure out what and how I'm allowed to take unit choices inside of a mixed (not real space raiders) detachment.
Reference pg. 49
1. If your army is battle forged, each detachment in your army must be designated as a kabal/coven/cult detachment.
2. All kabal/coven/cult units in a kabal/coven/cult detachment gain an obsession.

So for example could I take a Black Heart Kabal patrol detachment and choose a Succubus as an HQ, or Wyches as a troop?
They would not gain an obsession, that's for sure, but is this a legal choice?
Are there further implications of this down the line?
It doesn't seem to affect your ability to use strategems from your chosen obsession or take warlord traits/relics on other eligible HQs..

Thank you

The rules are messy, but all I see as mandatory is that you declare your detachment either <Kabal>, <Wych cult>, or <Coven>, and then only those units gain an obsession. That's it, there are no restrictions to which units you can include in that detachment.

So you can include a Cronos in a <Wych Cult> detachment, but it does not get any Coven obsession.

You could even have a <Coven> detachment include a <Cult of Strife> Succubus as your warlord, who would not get the obsession, but could get the warlord traits and relics from the Charadon book (but not the stratagems, as that requires a <Cult of Strife> detachment).

You actually cleared up one of my biggest confusions.
I was thinking that Cult of Strife = Obsession, so I had no idea what you would label the random Succubus or whatever.
This actually makes all of the rules sit neatly in my head now.

Thank you for the response
