Hello, new guy here. I started collected 40K/30K models after discovering 40K and reading some Warhammer novels about 6 months ago. So far I just enjoy building/painting, as it gives me something tangible to go along with the books I enjoy (I have never played the game). I was looking at my FW 'want list' today and noticed several models are now showing the 'ERROR 404 - ALL RECORDS EXPUNGED FROM LIBRARY' page. It appears the following models have been axed from the FW page:

-Macharius Vanquisher
-Crassus Armoured Assault Transport
-Legion Sicaran Venator
-Legion MKIII Breacher Siege Squad
-Emperor's Children Phoenix Terminators
-Solar Auxilia Strike Force
-Solar Auxilia Veletaris Storm Section
-Reaper (Drukhari)

I'm sure there are more gone that I did not have on my want list. I was looking forward to buying some of these in the future and am disappointed they are gone. How often does FW randomly discontinue models?

Right now we don't know if stuff is actually OOP gone, out of stock, awaiting new packaging or a new mold.

Stuff can disappear and come back - sometimes years later, and FW were getting good at marking stuff "Last Chance to Buy) if they weren't expecting it to come back.

EDIT: All that stuff is in-stock on the UK site, so they're probably just out of stock at the Citadel.

Did you try going to the page for the individual model? The models show in stock on the UK page until you click on model and the page is 404. Just curious if it is the same for you.

Huh - yeah, a 404 or "Sorry, but this product isn't available".

EDIT: From another thread:

This is a bug that has been occurring on forgeworld for a couple of months where products are incorrectly flagged as discontinued once they are out of stock. The FW team will manually change them to just Out of stock as some point.

I keep saying that FW really needs somebody to put up a notification on specific product pages when this happens. They could notify customers that the product is gone due to: changing product codes, broken mold, actually out of stock until they cast more, and so on. It's frustrating to constantly have this happen with large swatches of the 30K range.

Definitely. I don't get why they don't do that. Even just a social-media post would get the news out to the vast majority of the gaming population.

Yeah and a last chance to buy notifications would be sweet.. Im still salty over not investing in the Dragons before they went OOP

Part of the problem is that I think FW casts until a mould breaks then they make the choice on if it comes back and that choice might be GW head office/finance and not just internal FW choices.

So I think sometimes even FW doesn't know what they can or cannot bring back at times. That said they could do a world of favours for community relations by being more upfront about removals.

Right now I feel like you have to grab what you can.

Yeah it's a constant game of "Do I buy this unit for my army because it would be super cool" vs "Do I buy this thing because I think there's a chance it could go OOP forever in three months".

Like when all the Mk2 stuff went Last Chance to Buy, I appreciate that they gave us a warning, but at the same time, I don't think most gamers have a spare couple hundred bucks to drop at a moment's notice on LCTB items.

Feels like a better way to handle all of this would be to do "Made to Order" runs. You could even do them for items where the mold has broken and needs repair. "Ok, here's a Made to Order for Mk2 tactical marines. We need to sell 300 sets for this to be viable for us, and once we reach that number, we'll cast them and send them out."

I'd love ideas like that and I'm sure they'd get some support even if some kits might take a few weeks/months to pre-order that way. I'm sure that another aspect is that GW community pages and marketing forget about FW.

I've seen GW community teams do articles on things like exalted greater demons and not mention the FW sculpts once. Indeed almost the only AoS models that have stuck long term at present have been the Gloomspite Gitz and they also got almost the only marketing for a new army showing off their FW models. Almost all the rest were left with dead armies that were never marketed. It's not just that they never got updates in ages, but also that I think so many customers just don't even know FW exists. I've seen people on FB debate if FW is a sister company, got bought out by GW; is fully 3rd party or bought a licence or such.

I've seen suggestions online that GW and thus FW should licence out certain OOP models from their back catalogue to certain manufacturers, obviously with a royalty fee attached. They can determine standards and quality control then grant license for a very specific set of miniatures to be produced by said 3rd parties, including the price to be sold at.

Absolutely zero risk for GW if they do their part correctly, good stream of money would continue to come in without any of the cost.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

Now it seems the HH era Rhinos are OOP as well?! Surely that cant be right?

I was looking forward to buying some later this year.. What does this mean for the rest of the Rhino based HH kits?

I've heard from those who have friends within the great factory that the software has an outright glitch in it at present which is causing things to get flagged "sold out" when they are not.

There are rumours abound that 30k is getting its big refresh this year and I don't really believe those rumours but it could happen. I'd be surprised if it went into the 8th/9th style of game, which would be a mistake IMO, considering Book 9 was recent. TBH it's probably all behind the scenes stuff like system upgrades/low stock/Covid regulations.

Horus Heresy is not going to go 9th ed. I think there's a distinct interest at FW in keeping the systems separate, and besides, what team of designers would update the entire thing anyways? Last we heard the 30k design team is down to literally a single person after Anuj left.

GW have been advertising for Product Developers, Games Developers, Senior Games Developers & Lead Games Developers (no idea what the actual difference is) over the last few months so they are trying to grow the teams.

"Trying to grow the teams" is very different from having actual staff on hand to do the work. I still think that HH is going to remain in the current Age of Darkness system for the time being. They just finished getting out all the legion rules, why would they switch rules systems now?

Even if they managed to hire a full design team tomorrow, it would still be at least a year or two before we as consumers saw any results of that.

TBF Anuj did say in his "leaving" post as it was, that a bunch of stuff was queued up and ready to go so we might see things sooner rather than later. GW does tend to plan ages ahead for this sort of thing.

There have been a new crop of rumors, and Leakycheese did some work and caught that a lot of the very new 30k items had a new product code(code 30), and that items which recently disappeared and then came back also had the same new product code.

And as you said, there are projects that Anuj worked on that haven't been released yet. So I'm hopeful... I just don't think it's anything along the lines of 30k 9th edition.

Oh no, I don't believe that for a second. Some people might appreciate the corresponding ruleset but I prefer the (however useful/useless it may be) 7th ed style.

To add credibility to the website glitch theory, today's Forgeworld article for Maloghurst says:

"Get your Sons of Horus force ready by grabbing some Reavers for him to command."

And yet Reavers are listed as "No longer in production". I doubt GW would advertise models they no longer sell.

I've found it funny that pretty much every character mini released recently (Tarvitz, the DA, NL, and WB Praetors) have all been labeled as plastic, then been released, and unsurprisingly been resin. I think it's because the painting has been brought in line with the 'Eavy Metal style to keep brand consistency, so we don't see FW covering their models in 100 flavours of weathering powder in preview photos.

Reading between the lines, it seems like the reason they've paused pre-orders for a few weeks is their inventory management system has completely fallen apart, which probably also explains why the website is full of "no loner available" notifications even though they've posted on social media that they don't necessarily mean that.

Seems like GW is having a full meltdown on its inventory system.

It could be the Forge World warehouse inventory and website inventory system is broke. FW could be in the process of a manual inventory with limited personnel during a pandemic and the UK's constant in and out of lockdown. FW could be upgrading to a new inventory system requiring who knows what. I just chart it all up to the pandemic and things will eventually return to "normal". We just need to be patient. I don't know about ya'll, but I've only played a handful of games in person with people since the pandemic started, and most of those games have been over the last month or so. Not the best time to start a new army, but it's been a fantastic time catching up on painting!

Be patient, see what shakes out.

Spoiler:
If you really, really must have that model/unit whatever, their are other sources to get them besides Forge World. But that's a dark path, full of peril and the unknown.Tread at your own risk!
