Hi there

I have some questions about this game ....

What is the different between the factions?
Do some factions have better guns than others... or have tankier ships?
Are there factions specific rules which makes them kind of "unique"?
What is the play style of the factions?

Cheers
FaBa

Somewhere near Hamburg

Royal Navy: Very well armored ships but generally not as much range as Kriegsmarine or US Navy. Okay torpedoes. More AA than everyone else.

US Navy: Slow but well armed and armored ships. Their Battleships get most bang for the buck. Most Aircraft Carriers, best Carrier capable aircraft ingame. Bad torpedoes.

Kriegsmarine: Not as much Oomph as the US Ships but faster and longer ranged. Okay torpedoes, many large and expensive cruisers

Japanese Navy: Has INSANE torpedoes. Twice or more the range of other nations and a lot of them. Apart from that the ships tend to be rather fragile apart from the almighty Yamato. Best destroyers in game but the Battleships are not too good.

Regia Marina: They're... Weird. Fast and even longer ranged than Kriegsmarine but rather fragile ships. not as bad as the japanese ones tho.

Also, tends to have good AA even before the VT fuses are taken into account. The Altanta-class CL design philosophy was basically "what would happen if we replaced a light cruiser's 6-inch guns with dual purpose guns that could also be fired at aircraft?". Don't rely on the AA by any means. But it is something to be aware of.

The bad torpedoes (before 1943) is a problem, but is balanced by the fact that the USN has a lot fewer torpedoes to begin with. Unlike in the other navies, no heavy cruisers carry torpedoes (a choice probably influenced by the constraints of the naval treaties of the pre-War era), and most of the light cruisers don't, either. So the fact that an early War USN fleet's torpedoes are very unreliable isn't as much of a problem.

depends on which version of the game. i have the original.

most of what has been said is pretty accurate.

the big take aways

UK
cruiser heavy force
radar
weak carriers

US
good battleships
best carriers
radar

French
fastest ships in the game.
long range high volume of fire but weaker guns

Italy
designed for use in the med so shorter ranges
heavier hit than the french

Germany
limited radar
long range gunnery experts
durable

Japan
.best destroyers
.good carriers but limited numbers
.strong heavy cruisers
.best torpedos (with reloads)
most battleships are WWI refits so they tend to be weaker
