Does anyone know what's up with 1d4chan? They've been down since Sunday. I kow they have some technical issues from time to time, but those are usually resolved over the course of the day.

UPDATE-back as of April 9

I'd recommend checking in on the domain every few days, it may pop up again, but chances are that this is a repeat of the last time the site went down: everything lost with no proper or recent backup in place.

Bit of a shame, as a large chunk of their tactica on previous editions were actually quite useful, though post-reboot the 9th edition articles were not as well written or edited, being more of a typo-ridden mess of opinions than actual tactica, though YMMV.

Now I get that the "art" section very often was as immature as it was disgusting, but I enjoyed both the tongue-in-cheek fluff articles and the tactics sections, which I found to be more accessible than Goonhammer and other similar sites.

Agreed. Goonhammer, while alright, takes itself a bit too seriously. The tactics section on 1d4 is definitely some of the best. The 30K in particular one is quite comprehensive.

They were one of the few places with a tactical breakdown for Dropfleet Commander, so I’ll miss that.

The site has great tactical information, and does takes on the fluff that are tons of fun (I've read through the Settra stuff at least 3-4 times).

Why would anyone want it gone?

1d4Chan also went down for a week or so last year. It'll probably be back up within a week.

I rather enjoy their insight over the most niche games.

I will be hoping it returns as well. While the art/jokes may not have been to everyone's taste, the information was generally solid.

While their tactical insights ranged from flawed to warmed over meta watching, I think the sheer AMOUNT of information for each faction made it a great resource. Between it and battlescribe, you could operate without a codex (and I have!).

And even the most obvious tactical facts can be useful to complete new players. It's not celebrated to explain basic weapon choices on a unit, but some people clearly get a benefit from it.

It's also worth remembering that 1d4chan isn't just a Warhammer resource. It has huge comprehensive pages for Dungeons and Dragons, it's a great resource for the World of Darkness in an introductory sort of way, it covers some Magic the Gathering stuff, it's got a lot more content than just what you may access.

One of my favorite sites to research the minutia of a factions abilities. I don't see the kinds of breakdowns they had on factions offered at many other places. Hope they can fix things.

The key difference for me at least is not many DakkaDakka members make such casual and joking mentions of rape. I prefer my tactics articles/discussions without mentioning how well unit X will sexually violate my opponent's units.

Granted, from what I remember of the 30k tactics page, that was toned down a bit in recent years. But it was always a huge turn off when I was happily reading along and then hit a phrase like "150 point ball of rape" (with convenient link to page about... rape... I never clicked that.) or whatever.

Mmm, mostly I used it for reference. Decent but not perfect for learning about other factions armies and what they can do. I mean, the forums here do likewise but tend to move a bit faster and be filled with more shorthand.

Hopefully it's restored at some point or another.

I'd rather the shorthand than the "HurrDuurMEMES" and R*pe references that ruins every 1d4 article.

I hope so, in that without it people might have moved on ever so slightly faster from early 2000's internet comedy.

Helpful as 1d4chan is/was as a for-dummies reference - one that I won't say I was entirely above using or even getting the odd chuckle out of from time to time - it has/had an edge to its sense of humor that belongs rather firmly in the past.

Yes, it's quite clear that for some people, the sense of humor is a thing of the past

"Sense of humor" has literally always been an evolving, subjective thing affected by society and culture. To say otherwise is just an excuse to try and pass off things that are no longer socially acceptable as "jokes".
