A preview for the game was announced yesterday, with a release date of autumn 2021. From the looks of it, a classic is finally returning in strength. A smart looking blend of old and new from what info has been released so far. Interesting looking civilisations to play with as well as new features for AoE II and III.

I've always loved age of empires and I've been disappointed by a lack of classic RTS games for a number of years.

I'm interested to see where else they go with it.

This would explain why they've been rereleasing all of the earlier games with a graphical overhaul.

AOE 3 also getting a DLC and before that we get the US as a civ .
Shame that austria/ austria-hungary didn't show up. It's personally the big ommission.

I agree, I think that would have been great to see.
But I think that's purely down to the fact that Age of Empires III revolves predominantly around the 'new world'. I think if not for the fact that the Ottomans are in the single player campaign, they wouldn't be there either.

Yeah but in the Same vein neither India not the US should've showed up. Since one was a colony and the other didn't exist for 3 /5 ages...
Unlike k.u.k monarchy, nvm that the State mechanic could easily be Adapted for Austria hungary.

There's been alot of talk of it being aimed at the esports crowd. Hopefully its nothing like Dawn of War 3 with its MOBA heroes. I can almost see a priest screaming Wololo while jumping into the sky doing a triple flip before slamming the ground with his cane unleashing a conversion quake to units in the area.

Personally I'll be sticking to AOE 1 and 2. I grabbed AOE1 on the publisher sale the other day and its good to play again after so long.

4 for the esport crowd?

I guess i can see it, and it is a guarantee for longerterm viability and playerbase cue starcraft, if propperly crafted.

It looks quite close to AoEII but with some nice improvements. I actually think it looks pretty good although I've never been a great fan of the series.

I mean the Indian state and empire has existed for an extremely long time and that was part of their whole China and Japan "Far East" pack.
As for the US, i figure they're playing up for the Yank crowd. It's not being made by Ensemble Studios anymore, it's Relic up in Canada.

I hope it's not being made expressly for E-sports because I know plenty of people give a crepe about it but I certainly don't.

Interesting though, looking forward to more being shown.

The US may not have existed at the start of the era depicted in the third game, but the third part of the game's campaign starts in an independent US in the early 1800s. Further, the idea of coaches and trains transporting goods to and from remote trading posts - a big part of the game - fits right in with the settlement of the Western US.

Also true, i guess, still i think the US going to get implemented before glorious Habsburg empire of ethnic tensions and the PLC is a bit of an oversight...

Edit: I also think a bit of an rework of other european factions is in order, also an upgrade to their graphics for units, bit of an shame that Z├╝ndnadelgewehr upgrade doesn't give you a pickelhaube and Voltigeurs without a shako headpiece seems like an oversight.

I do wonder thouhg, since they anounced that the next DLC will be in Africa, what nations we will see?
I think the most obvious will be Egypt, Aethiopia, and maybee some tribal faction(s), like the Zulu?

The Ashanti Empire and Kingdom of Dahomey will probably be the picks from West Africa, but factions in AoE 2 were all very similar with just a few bonuses and a unique unit or two.
I wonder if they will do the same for AoE 4? The previews seem to suggest the factions will be pretty similar.
