Hello.

I'm very new to the WH40K universe, and looking for advice/opinions with painting some bases for my next project - some female Escher gangers! I wanted to make my own bases mostly because i really enjoy it, but also to heighten the overall feel of the models since my paintjobs isn't that advanced yet

My question is: would it go against the 'Necromunda' setting/feeling to place the minis on a sort of "Urban", broken asphalt/concrete? I'm asking because they seem to be based on overlapping metal plates when I google pictures of them.

Here's one of a base a quickly slapped together with some cork, blacks, grays, oils, a little yellow and orange so you know what i mean with that: And thank you in advance.

The underhive is a broken industrial wasteland of varying forms. I can see tarmac and concrete being used as often as metal plating. I used a concrete aesthetic for my Necromunda scenery.

Also, that is a really nice base. Love the marker lines.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

The concrete works but industrial and steampunk sort of trumps it.

As the hive gets bigger/ taller it sort of crushes the lower levels so metal really works and as the atmosphere is heavliy polluted and toxic (oceans of acid and ashy air) its hard to see them mining it. But that also asks where does the metal come from?

That makes sense, thanks both of you.

And I'm glad you liked it Flinty, I seem to get good results with my bases with very little effort. Maybe that's why I like making them

I mean, the bases that comes with the models kind of does what you describe with the metal plating, it's just a little boring, in a way, to use them. I wish I knew of a way to make cool custom metalplated bases out of cork

Did a revisit of the bases for Escher Gang. A bit of tinkering, bit of research, bit of light greebling from various elecronics, bit of hazzarding, tried to keep it simple and not overdo it too much (that was hard). Colors are less blue and more teal IRL, but my phones camera doesn't seem to understand that. Let me know what you think, if there's something it needs more or less off, rust etc.

There's a short, but great little video from Midwinter Minis on how to make easy Necromunda style bases from various cheap or trash items you might have lying around.

You do seem to have made some good bases on your own, btw!

I should probably have mentioned that exact video as a source of inspiration
