Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had used these before? Are they good or not worth it?

I never bought one of the FW models unfortunately, though I did use the rules to inspire a super-big orky conversion based on a baneblade chassis with a landraider mounted on top :p.

Alas, with Covid etc., plus relocating to the other side of the country, I've not actually had a chance to test it out on the battlefield yet...

I would actually say Kill Tanks are probably a deceptively good unit, the main problem with them is that LOW slot, but 24w, T8, easy to give an invuln save, and has Ramshackle - that's a fantastic unit to give the current melta meta a headache. Firepower isn't amazing but take it in a bad moonz list and it can always double shoot. Gigashoota > Busta tho I don't like needing to be within 18" to really do my stuff.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Isn't that Strat Infantry only?

Yeah, i always forget that since I don't play Bad Moonz. Regardless, rr1s to hit would be nice for them.

Worth mentioning super heavy auxiliary detachments don't get subfaction rules - you'd need to bring 3 in a standard super heavy detachment to benefit from bad moonz.

I don't understand this take:

Gigashoota is 30, str. 6, ap -2, 1 damage shots at range 48"
Bursta is 3 D6, str 10, ap -3, 3 damage shots at 36"

Both get the +1 to hit at half range. So, the giga only has a 6" advantage at half. Orks have plenty, plenty of medium strength, 1 damage shots. I can see if you are taking 3 kill tanks, you'd definitely want one of them to be armed with the Gigashoota, since the points cost would mean you aren't taking as many other anti-chaff units. To each their own I suppose.

To the OP, the reason the kill tanks are popular now is because their point cost. The bursta clocks in at just over 2x the points of a battlewagon with a deff rolla, while the Giga armed kill tank is a whopping 50 points less or 2x the points of a bare bones battlewagon. Add in the fact that they can transport 12 models and have 8 close combat attacks at strenght 9, ap-1 3 damage, they are reasonably dangerous in both the shooting phase and close combat phase. Plus, they are 24 wounds, toughness 8, with a 3+ save. Even if you take 3 with the bursta cannon, you are still looking at less than 1k points, leaving you plenty of points to take scoring units.

TLDR - Deadly in shooting and close combat, tough, can transport, and economically priced (points wise)

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love
