Start with adding more corps type unit for both forces. They are situational neutral and a set number or corps units is mandatory dependent on what kind of point limit you run.
Minimum two corps units for 500p skirmish, minimum 3 for 800p standard. (so with the p2 box you can only play skirmish games as it only has 2 corps units for both forces)
For CiS, you can add one box of B2s for varitys sake for your kid, but dont think in the game the B2s behave like they do on the screen, the B2s are not durable death machines, you have to move them from cover to cover and shoot from cover.
B1s are your bread and butter and the general playstyle of the CIS is horde, there is no corps units that is as cheap and can contain as many bodys in Legion as the B1 droids, but at the same time, the B1s overall preformance is very bad. They are cannonfodder, but even cannofodder is a serios threath in large numbers.
From there i would add a unit of commando droids. They are good in mele, good at holding objectives and has just alot of general use. Futher steps to 800p is very open for when you play casualy, but know this, the tanks and ATs are a huge point sink and should not be used in skirmish games.
CiS only have 3 commanders, Greivous that is 2p box exlusive, Dooku and a " hidden" low point cost one, the T-series tactial droid, you can find it in the Separatist Specialists Personnel Expansion.
