Hey everyone - not strictly a new player in WH40k but new to these forums. What do I mean by "not strictly new"? Well I've had two attempts to get into 40k in the past and both times were aborted due to me concentrating on my fantasy army at the time. That army was Dark Elves from 5e all the way through 8e at which point I quit due to them gutting the main bulk of what I had collected at the time (had 3 blocks of 30 original Dark Elf Warriors that just had swords, no spears which was required that I could no longer use). Proved to be a good move too since they scrapped Fantasy Battles and went to Age of Sigmar shortly after. I think the two times I tried 40k were 3rd edition and 4th edition. I read through the rules and got somewhat familiar with them but not overly much. 9th edition seems like a pretty big departure from what I remember of those editions and seems a lot more streamlined and while I haven't played a game yet, seems like it'll play faster on the table. I'm honestly really excited to get back into the hobby after all these years.

Anyway I look forward to interacting with you fine folk on here in the future!

Edit - Moved the questions I had to other sections of the forum.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

So the question is where in the NW are you?

Our store has regular players who play a host of games (my sig has a list of most of the games i play) including 9th and AOS

The thing to understand about 9th, it is a completely different game than what you were used to. the eras were -rogue trader-2nd, then 3rd-7th, and then 8th+ . each of these blocks represent a different style of gameplay.

With 8th+ they streamlined the core rules, but them transferred the bloat into the individual codexes/supplements this is something that has continued with 9th.

A side note-many of the warhammer fantasy players moved over to kings of war from mantic games where they can still use all their WFB minis in a game that plays like edition 8.5.

I am in South-Eastern WA - specifically the Tri-Cities area. We have a single FLGS that has room to run games in the back but I don't think they're open for that sort of thing just yet. I do know that there is a tournament that someone is putting on locally with rules to follow current safety guidelines. I may have to check out Kings of War. I'm was thinking about AoS once I am satisfied with my Salamanders for 40k. However, the two factions I would have been interested in, that being Brets and Tomb Kings, are nowhere to be found in AoS. Thought about Chaos Demons if they can be used for both 40k and AoS, but I haven't checked much into that possibility yet so I'm not even sure if it can be done like it could for older editions. I'm just dipping my toes back into the pool currently so to speak. I am almost done painting the Necrons from the Command Edition for my friend. We made an agreement after I bought the box and he told me he wanted to do Necrons (before he even knew I had bought the set) - he could have the Necrons, pre-painted since he's never done it and wants his initial models to be a basis to go on for his own attempts at starting if he bought the Space Marine codex for me. I think he's getting a real steal for that overall, but I want to encourage him since he's my current lifeline to potential games during the current situation since I don't live directly in town and he lives right across the street.

Anyway, I'm rambling a bit now. Thanks for the welcome and I really am looking forward to getting reinvolved with the hobby and the community since it is so much easier to connect to people these days. Internet was there when I was playing before but it hadn't evolved much past AoL quite yet

Ah, so now i am sad, your on the other side of the mountains.

Our group is in the tacoma area. but do your best to build up that community there and i am sure you will have a good time.

here is a link to the KOW site

https://www.manticgames.com/games/kings-of-war/featured-products/

The good news is that the tomb kings and bretonian equivalents are very much alive and well in that setting.
