Okay, crazy idea I had. I've got a ton of old school kasrkins and storm troopers. I've been playing a lot of pure infantry Imperial Guard and have been having more success than my typical mixed lists with 3 tank commanders and 2 manticores, but what if I tried this with Scions.

Here's my general idea:

Battalion One (0 CP) Lambdan Lions:

HQ: 95 Points.
- Tempestor Prime:
Warlord, Keys to the Armoury, The Tactical Auto-Reliquary Of Tyberius, Tempestus Command Rod
- Primaris Psyker:
Psychic Barrier, Psychic Maelstrom

Troops: 540 Points.
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor

Subtotal: 635 Points

Battalion Two (3 CP) Lambdan Lions:

HQ: 95 Points.
- Tempestor Prime:
Tempestus Command Rod
- Primaris Psyker:
Nightshroud, Psychic Maelstrom

Troops: 540 Points.
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor

Subtotal: 635 Points.

Battalion Three (3 CP) Lambdan Lions:

HQ: 90 Points.
- Tempestor Prime:
Tempestus Command Rod
- Aradia Madellan:
Psychic Augment

Troops: 540 Points.
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor
- Militarum Tempestus Scions:
9x Scions, 1x Tempestor

Elites: 97 Points.
- Commissar
- Wyrdvane Psykers
Gaze of the Emperor
- Wyrdvane Psykers
Gaze of the Emperor
- Wyrdvane Psykers
Gaze of the Emperor

Subtotal: 727 Points.

Total: 1997 Points

This looks crazy, and it is. Yet, it does offer a ton of flexibility. Up to 1000 points of units can deep strike to grab secondaries. The Wyrdvane Psykers while terrible, will be used both for their stratagem and as action performing units. Basically working as cheaper servitors. The actual Psykers will be dropping mortal wounds and buffing friendly infantry.

The infantry themselves, there's not much to say. With S3, AP-3 guns they'll be forcing most enemies onto their invuls but will be required to wound everything on 5's or 6's.

The main stratagems to make this viable is Point-Blank Efficacy which will mean you might be able to wound on 4's and the worst case will always be 5's. This leads to the more important stratagem of Killing Zone which essentially gives the entire army +1 to wound against 1 unit. So, if there's something deadly killing all your Scions say for example a unit of Bladeguard then all you need to do is drop 1 model to get the buff on all other units shooting them.

Is this going to be effective at killing? No, not at all. The idea is the most extreme foot Guard achievable. One option available is changing the battalion with the Wyrdvane Psykers and changing it to a Vanguard detachment. That way you could drop Aradia Madellan and the Commissar for an Inquisitor. That Inquisitor could help you get some command points back.

You have 18" range, move 6". A good player, will deploy outside of 24".

That denies you 1 turn of shooting. You can deepstrike turn 2, but a good player will place 9" screens in front of his valuable stuff. And that sort of denies you a decent turn 2 of shooting. Meaning all the work you need to do needs to be done in turns 3 to 5.

Which means likely you can kill 3 vehicles in a game. Probably wipe out a 10 man terminator squad. Or lots of chafe. But I think you'll find your options are too limited with str3 guns.

What I think may make more sense is replace 6 units of scions with 10 man infantry squads with a lascannon team or mortar, or missile launchers. Then you can equip 6 other scion units with 2x melta guns. And then you toss 1 scion unit away, and equip the other 5 scions with a total of 8 melta guns and 2 flamers.

Now you have credible treats to armor, heavy infantry and only lost 10 models.

The idea of the list is pure board control.

The first turn wouldn't have any shooting (unless you went second and the enemy came to you). As you would be ordering Move, Move, Move! to get as much coverage as possible. With 6 - 9 squads moving a minimum of 14 inches, average of 21 inches, and maximum of 24 inches they should be able to secure a lot of the board.

Deep striking is only an option. Without special weapons you're not dropping them to do damage, you're using them to reinforce. Block movement lanes, and perform secondaries.

I disagree completely about adding Guardsmen. I've played pure Infantry Guard. For Guard it's plasma guns or bust. I also disagree with the enemy keeping out of 24 inch range, if they do they're just hurting their primary points.

Though, if the list does need more firepower. I could drop the Commissar and the Wyverns, that's 10 plasma or melta guns. Then I could potentially swap the Primaris Psykers and Aradia for Lord Commissars, that would get me another 2 plasma or melta guns.

What secondary's are you going after?

Engage on all fronts and Raise Banners seem obvious to me.
