As a foreward I will state as I have before that I tried to get into WH40k a while ago (4th edition I believe) and at the time wanted to do Dark Angels. The idea ended up falling through and without ever playing a game or even putting paint to model. At that time I ended up selling the stuff in the boxed set to feed my Dark Elf army since a whole bunch of new models had just been released for it with the new 7th edition. After quitting Warhammer altogether in 8th edition WHFB due to my financial situation and GW absolutely gutting my army, I have decided to come back because I do love the setting and the game in general.

With that preamble aside I have been catching up on the lore and story so I know what the Primaris Marines are and the Ultima Founding etc. I know that Primaris Marines have overall slightly better stats than First Born but are less flexible. However outside of a handful of units I am trying to figure out which Primaris Marine squads are equivalent to which original First Born Marine squads. I've tried looking online to find this information and was only able to find info on what I already knew. Yes I have the Codex, but since I am still learning the game in general, it's harder to make comparisons.

What I know for sure -

Intercessors = Tactical Squad
Assault Intercessors = Assault Squad
Impulsor = Rhino

I know that some Primaris units like the Reivers are completely new. I am getting the idea that the Bladeguard Veterans might be an equivalent to the Terminators? But I'm not 100% sure on that. Anyway I'm just curious as to which units are the Primaris equivalents to the original First Born units so that I can figure out which way I want to go in terms of near future purchases since I am doing a mix because I like having options.

There are no real equivalents, but we could say that outriders are fat bike squads, that aggressors look like terminators and that infiltrators are what scouts always wanted to be. Eliminators are big scout snipers, and the devastator role has been split between helblasters and Eradicators.

As for vehicles, the land speeders are obvious, the repulsor is a sort of land raider and the gladiator variants are supposed to be the predator.

It gets a little fuzzy.

Bladeguard = Assault Termies, but don't get a 1+ save or deepstike, but have some limited ranged capability.
Gravis types ( Aggressor, Heavy Intercessor, Inceptors ) are also like Terminators with guns, but they are weaker on armor and have no invulnerable.
Assault Intercessors are like Assault Marines, but they have no jump pack option ( yet ).
Reivers ( and Phobos armor marines ) are kiiiind of like Scouts.

Honestly it's pretty hard to peg a lot of them to solid comparisons.

The above posters have pretty much layed out the rough equivalents between the lines. The one area where firstborn have sole dominion over is jump pack close combat units. Assault marines and Vanguard Veterans.

Oh and drop pods...

Okay got it. So rough equivalents that aren't 100% clear. Just figured I'd check to see if there were any.

Oh and drop pods...
And the ability to mix mission roles in squads. Being able to "hide" heavy and special weapons is a great option, and gives units more flexibility.

And They Shall Not Fit Through Doors!!!

Yeah I noticed that - which for Salamanders I feel will be more to my benefit since I can choose Meltas and Flamers on units where the Primaris versions don't have those weapons. The Primaris gets that extra attack though so that's beneficial. I'll be mixing the two ultimately but right now as I am building my force, I'll be picking up primarily First Born for those weapon options - though I do want Aggressors, Eradicators and Hellblasters. I just wanted to see any equivalents that may exist so that I know what I might swap out for the Primaris alternatives on a case by case basis.
