I made a thing. Specifically, a campaign! An ORK campaign. I just noticed that ORK also spells ROK.

It is Waaagh the Dog a campaign about Ork Warlords attempting to start a Waaagh, and take control of the space hulk Forlorn Hope! It has battles from Warhammer 40K, Kill Team, Battlefleet Gothic, Aeronautica Imperialis, Speed Freeks and Space Hulk (with Orks!). Expect to see pictures and tall tales soon, as we start this upcoming weekend!

I'm sharing this document with y'all, in the hopes that it inspires you to run your OWN campaign, and also show how three players can be integrated (always difficult).

Please enjoy.

GOBBO FANK and DA GROT PACK demand it!

A little Teaser...

Gobbo Fank looks like trouble and no mistake.

However, Modrag the Stealthy is ready for any pesky grots. No comments on his charming little Ork Pack or stylish beret please! Snikrot was not available.

I will be running the Mighty Warboss Gulash and his Mostly Goff type orks. I will also be revealing the long awaited Origin story of Gulash the Vaguely Resplendent and absolutely substantial!

Many thanks to Brian for putting this together, can't wait to game again!

Here's the two Fighta-Bommers from the infamous Black Squig Skwadron!

And here they are with their larger 40K cousins.

That's "Pappy" Orkington and his Wingork, "Jam" Gutterork.

Here's some Speed Freeks getting ready to gun out of a Mekanink's garage, consisting of Grok Speedrippa and his bodyguard Gitsmakka, along with Zag Halfrunt, Bike Nob, and two Bikers Snigbag and Kag Rokka.

And finally, a Kill Team known as Da Rekin' Krew, seen here exploring a bombed out Ork scrapyard, led by Grot Kaptin Fank, and his Grot Pak: Dino, Spanna, and Da Bishop. A group of Big Shootas and some Kommandos provide cover.

Let's meet some of the contestants on "The Dakka is Right"!

First we have Warboss Gulash. Gulash's story is sure to tug on your heart strings, or possibly your connective tissue. Once upon a time there was an old Farmer and his wife who had worked hard their whole lives, but had no Son to leave their remote but prosperous farm to. So they prayed very hard every day, and consulted the local priest. They were getting feeble, and their sight was growing dim. The priest received them in the midst of his prayers of thanksgiving for the deliverance of the planet from the vile xenos many years ago. Hearing their story, he glanced over at his acolyte in his tall hat, and told them that the Emperor had heard them and they should take as their son the traveler who came on the 7th day of the 7th week at the 7th hour. Eagerly the couple returned and waited for the appointed hour, and low and behold, about that time they heard a heavy tread, and peering into the twilight saw dimly a shape in a tall hat approaching. They welcomed their new son joyfully. Their new son belched and discarded the bone with which he had been picking his teeth, adjusted his new hat, and bemusedly followed them.

What happened next is a matter of considerable dispute. In any event, here we see the neophyte warboss Gulash during his period as war god of the Lizard People.

Gulash is one of the first miniatures I ever bought for myself, and he's converted with model tank parts, cardboard, and hot glue. He also used to use Skinks as Grots, hence the Lizard connection.

Then of course there is the flamboyant Kaptin' Krunch....

Battle One - Da Race- Gulash

The young warboss looked longingly at the yellow and black dakkajet as it stood with engines howling on the cratered Tarmak. Grots scurried over it completing final checks or at least trying to look busy.

"A ting o' beauty.."

His Mek, the gnarled creature known as Scarmahax spat. Scarmahax claimed to have been a yoof during the first waaggh, to have lived "Wild an' free" in a sewer during the entire span of time the hummies had rules the planet. When he wasn't claiming to have arrived on a ork pirate. Or in the belly of a genestealer infested humie frieghter. Gulash, being a keen orkish intellect, noticed the contradictions but didn't care.

"Its a hummie jet wif some gubbins and squig gas. An fancy paint. Not propa at all. Sure, I made it fast like you sed, but wot's da point of fast?"

"If only it was a bit bigga... ...like so I could fit... ...to be up dere... ...zoommm,zoomm, dakka dakka whoooshhhh!!!!"

"Its a zoggin Race. I don't see da point. We should be krump'n dese lads and making 'em see dat yer da boss. Yer won't amount to nothing with all this racin' and gamin' and eatin' an..."

But Gulash had wandered away to inspect the other dakkajets and fightabombas of his rivals and give some last minute instructions to his Flyin' Yoofs.

Da Game:

A race around two giant mushrooms over a world newly fallen to resurgent orks. Most laps wins. Or whoever is left.

Da Action

My dakkajets roared in low and fast and never shot at anything. Brian's Fightabombas orbited in the center, staying at mid to low altitude and shooting at everything. Insurgency Walker's jets stayed high, took some shots, but got hammered by the Fightabombas.

Da Outcome:

Gulash's planes got a few holes in them, but never suffered serious damage except for Da Red Squig which pushed the envelope and nearly ripped its own wings off making a turn. Insurgency's planes were downed by the fightabombas who never took much damage but never did a lap.

Da Thoughts:

Verdict is still out on Aeronautica. Very different feel from X wing since you do some guessing, but what you guess isn't nearly as critical as the number of planes you have and what you role for initiative. Altitude does work, but there don't seem to be the hard choices I'd hope for in an Energy Management flight game. None the Less, I enjoyed it and hope to play more. My opponents were very generous, including letting me change a maneuver when I literally couldn't keep straight which one was which.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I like the hexes and the way the map is done. I think the potential is enormous, but GW may not have gone the distance with this one.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another plus is the relatively uncluttered board, so it beats X wing on aesthetics.

Game Two - DA Kill Team:

Though hulking in size, Boss Gulash was really quite young at heart, and hadn't really outgrown his Yoof rebellion against Orkish Kulture, which translated as a deep love of order, structure, ooniforms, standing in lines and fings. And thus it was with great enjoyment that he strolled up and down the ranks of his Kommandos, getting a warm tingling feeling from their grey and blue cammo, neat caps, bundles of ropes, and such. His Grots, each in a neat little red and grey outfit, marched after him with many a "Hup, Hup, Hup".

As the Kommando Boss reported on the battle however, with the aid of some charts and a swagger stick and many references to "Refoosin' Da Flank", and "Advancing to Da Rear", he began to frown.

This was a 3 way battle won pretty handily by Brian. Insurgency walker put up a good fight, however my beloved Kommandos, hampered by my indecision, misunderstanding of terrain rules, misunderstanding of shooting rules, general ineptitude, and dubious close combat choices, achieved little to nothing.

Kill team works Ok, and there are some neat things about the turn structure. T[url]he only downside is that it does not quite play as fast as I would like a 20 model game to play. Mostly I need to learn the rules, which probably means I should actually read the book.

Battle 3 - Da Ground Race

This was a game of Speed Freaks:

The starting lineup!

Racin'!

This time Gulash managed to squeeze his bulk into a tiny shockjump dragsta, and gripping the tiny wheel and peering through the armored slits, drove like crazy, hooting all the way. He mostly ignored the exciting sounds of crashes and explosions in his wake, and, working the shifter with two delicate fingers, blasted on to the finish line.

This was fun and expertly organized by Brian, but overall I have to give Games Workshop a "Swing and Miss" on this one. The game has lots of cool little details, but the movement takes waaaaayyy too long for a fun race game, the dice pool/template mechanic is clunky with multiple vehicles, and the game is so idiosyncratic that it doesn't have much portability to doing your own thing. Personally I think it would be brilliant with an X wing dial system and some tweaks to the dice mechanic, but I tend to think that everything would be brilliant if it used X wing dials, so YMMV.

Next Episode: Enter the Hulk!

The next three games were fabulous, but I didn't really get any pictures. : (
