Hi Dakka, its been many seasons since I've posted on here, but I'm still kicking around and lurking in the hobby.
Recently, I got back into painting my old Imperial Guard army and restarting the project for what seems to be the 100th time, but this time I feel pretty good that I'll get something done.

Anyway, I wanted to share the backstory I been writing the past day or so. Hope you guys enjoy this little bit of lore and fluff I put together.
I tried my best to keep it in best taste of the big 40k lore and remain accurate to already existing histories.

Well without anymore ... Here it is. Please drop a comment with your thoughts.

Kollax Prime

History

Kollax Prime sits on the southern edge of the old borders of the 500 Worlds of Ultramar. In times past after compliance during the Great Crusade the planet enjoyed the protection of the XIII Legion. Following the disaster of the Horus Heresy and the following Scouring, Kollax fell outside the borders of the new Relem of Ultramar. Like many worlds of the Old 500 during this period, they were given independence from the administration of Macragge. While considered independent and separated by many light years from the old center of the 500 Worlds, Kollax Prime still shares a common culture with that of Macragge. No Successor chapter took inheritance of the region though. The world was civilized in nature and not typically a place from which aspirants would be judged worthy for selection in the Adeptus Astartes. For ten thousand years, Kollax sat in place and conducted the dutiful work it was assigned for the sector. It was during this time that the Defense Legions were founded by the local city-states to defend the themselves and the world found its role amongst the larger Imperium. With the return of Roboute Guilliman and the recreation of the 500 Worlds of Ultramar, the people of Kollax Prime rejoiced. The feeling amongst the local population was similar to that of family reunion or meeting long lost relatives.

Kollax is a growing, but still low-level imperial world. The world is divided into four economic blocs. These Blocs are an element of culture held over from the days of colonization prior to the Old Night. While all four Blocs report to a central Imperial Council, the Blocs are allowed a large amount of autonomy in their regions. Each Bloc is based around a mega city The mega cities are not yet at the level of population, pollution, or product output as hive cities on other imperial worlds. While the Blocs are all loyal to the greater Imperium and Ultramar, there exists rivalries amongst the working and ruling classes sometimes lead to riots or in worse situations border skirmishes between militias or gangs.

Culture

Kollax Prime is located on the southern frontiers of the old 500 Worlds of Ultramar near Talasa Prime and Imperial Cluster C43. The planet is home to roughly 6 billion humans and several hundred thousand abhuman colonists. The capital city is Central Station which is a low orbit station attached to a space elevator. Central Station is somewhat similar to the concept of a floating city in design. The planet has one large continent with several island chains to the south and east of it. Every world in the Imperium is given a designation by the Administratum. For Kollax, it is considered a Gamma Class (Civilized World) and considered a Mining World. Unlike many mining worlds across the Imperium, Kollax Prime does not harvest its own natural ores for shipment, instead the planet receives shipments from various elements of a great transportation cartel ran by a rogue trader dynasty. These shipments are then turned over from the office of the Imperial Governor to the local city states for work. The shipments include various and random pieces of technology, machinery, or other goods. These “raw” products are separated and stripped down back into usable resources or building material. Effectively the workers of Kollax turn junk into raw goods for use again. The tithe of Kollax after being granted independence was never in people, but instead that of raw tonnage of recycled goods. The hard-working Kollaxites hold a hard-earned streak of never missing an Imperial tithe quota. This is due to the fact that if the quota is met, then any leftover materials for that time period may be kept for the purposes of local Kollaxite economy.

The primary reason Kollax was selected as “recycling” world was due to its location nearby a relatively stable warp lane leading towards Ultramar and the world’s geography itself. Kollax is a very temperate world. Its location along the solar system gives it a very stable weather pattern and local planetary conditions. The belt around the equator is home to the main city states and their respective colonial holdings. While the polar caps have been largely left alone except of independent traders and small groups seeking freedom from the economic blocs that control the city-states. Occasionally, the city-states of Kollax will go to war over disagreements or disputes. In the past the local defense legions were the main combatants. With the reformation of the 500 Worlds the defense legions were drafted and reorganized into regiments of the Ultramar Auxilia. In the most recent trade war, the conflict was fought by worker gangs and low-level security personnel. This conflict was cut short and put down the new Ultramar Auxilia forces. This open trade war was deemed ineffective to the production of goods and needed to be put down.

2nd Kollax Auxiliary Regiment

History

The 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Regiment hail from the city-state of Elysium. Elysium is the second oldest of the city-states and holds the nickname, The Emerald City. The city state contains a certain mix of regular High Imperial and Ultramar culture, but containing an element of frontier attitude. This is due to the fact that Elysium sits on the southern edge of the equatorial zone, this zone is where the primary landing sites for shipments are located and stored. Being located so far south from the main region and other developed sections of the planet have given the people of Elysium a certain independent attitude when concerning the local planetary governor and the Central Station council. The 2nd was assigned the role of being an infantry regiment. Like all of the former Kollax Defense Legions, they were converted to auxiliary template organization following the reestablishment of the 500 Worlds. The Auxiliary Regiment has inherited battle honors won from the old defense legion. These include many actions against Ork raiding parties and rare PDF sector deployments in response to the Tyrannic Wars. One battle honor that puzzles Imperial Remembrancers, is a small pendent marking a deployment to the far away planet, Medusa V. Being at the time the unit was still a PDF formation it remains unknown why or how the 2nd Defense Legion participated and won a unit battle honor during the Fall of Medusa V, which was situated on the other side of the Imperium.

+++The following data entry is for official use only. Sealed by Vigil Opritii+++
Many former legionaries were forced out of the newly reorganized military due to fears of these troops being more loyal to the ideals of their home blocs and not the new Ultramar Administration. This period of a “changing of the guard” was a challenging period within Kollax local history and eventually resulted in the Moon War, also known as, Operation Claw. Much of the inicident is censored in official records and sealed at the highest levels by the Vigil Opertii. Many civilians only remember being contained to the underground safety bunkers in the mega cities during the 90 day crisis.

Regimental Recruitment & Training

The Kollax Auxiliaries are a volunteer only regiment. This stems from the fact that the planet is not required to pay a tithe in manpower, but instead in materials. The regiment however is not very selective in its screening of recruits. The Discipline Masters and Drill Abbots that are seconded from the Scholas on Macragge believe that any man or woman should have the privilege to prove themselves worthy on the battlefield in honor of Ultramar's martial traditions. This often has led to many hab-workers to view the regiment as a way to escape the normal day to day life of the recycle plants or shipping compounds. One could escape and see the outer rim and earn glory as soldier. Others of the lower levels see this as an escape from the life of crime or a chance to escape a trip to the penal colony on one of Kollax’s twin moons. Even some highborn nobles see military service as a chance to improve their individual status if medals can be won. Often all these dreams are far from the truth.

Both men and women are recruited and serve in mixed-gender units in relatively equal numbers. There is a slight majority of female auxilia officers, while the slight majority of enlisted auxiliaries are male. Additionally, there is also majority of male auxiliaries serving in the Special Operations Teams. Rear-guard and non-combat roles, such as, medics are occupied primarily by women.

Kollax keeps its Auxilia regiments steadily supplied with reinforcements, seeing them as standing rather than temporary formations. The frequency at which reinforcements are sent varies based on the distance between the regiment and the border of Ultramar, as well as, the current conditions of the deployment.

Wargear

The 2nd uses refurbished and second line equipment by the standards of the greater Astra Militarium. For example, old M36 Kantrael Pattern Lasrifles and Mark 4 Lascarbines have found their way to Kollax in broken condition and then been refurbished with new power cells couplings, barrel assemblies, or other new internal mechanisms. These new weapons are then repainted standard mechanicus grey, given new serial numbers, and slotted in the armories of the Auxiliaries. Another prominent item in the armory of the 2nd, are the old Thudd Gun batteries. According to the guidelines of the Tactica Imperialis, Imperial Guard units cannot be of a mixed formation under a single commander. This practice prevents an incident in similar nature to the Horus Heresy from happening again. However, small-scale heavy weapons are allowed to be attached and organic to infantry formations. A large shipment of ancient Squat Thudd Guns was sent to Kollax. Instead of breaking the weapons down, hab-worker crews re-tooled the Thudd Guns and sent them to support the Kollax Auxiliaries. These Thudd Gun batteries, along with other man portable heavy weapons systems, provide the auxiliaries of the 2nd Kollax with much needed firepower when dealing with enemy armor or heavy infantry due to a lack of organic armor support.

Regimental Appearance

Many Imperial scholars continue to believe that the regiments of the Ultramar Auxilia wear ornate navy blue and grey color uniforms or still issue the distinct ancient Macragge battle helms. Maybe during the times of the Heresy or during the Great Scouring when the Auxilia marched next to the XIII Legion were these uniforms used. Current formations of the Ultramar Auxilia today employ modern style battle dress very similar in color to the Cadian-Pattern equipment. This pattern of equipment was chosen not only for its well rated combat effectiveness and ease to manufacture, but the morale building sense of linking the auxiliaries in look to the vaunted Cadian Shock Troopers.

While many different camo patterns may exist for specialist formations or certain environmental conditions, the primary color for auxilia combat fatigues is militarium green with matching death world forest green flak armor along with black combat boots. These colors were chosen for ease of care and manufacturing process, as well as, being rated as suitable in combat conditions in most temperate environments throughout the galaxy. The primary head gear for Auxilia troopers is the field or garrison side cap. Some troopers in frontline conditions will opt to wear the typical Cadian tri-dome helmet. Sewn on the shoulders of the uniform sleeves and painted on to the flak armor shoulder pads, if worn, is the auxiliary’s primary reporting unit. The various regiments of the Auxilia may also authorize the use of other distinctive unit markings for identification in combat conditions or morale building purposes to set apart special or veteran formations.

Thank you and much appreciated! I hope to keep writing down the stories that come to my mind for this regiment!

I do have a squad of finished models actually. Right now I've been posting my hobby progress on Instagram @boximperialis... here's a link, hope it works. https://www.instagram.com/boximperialis/
I should get around to posting my progress on here as well.

Nice pics. I like the hats, how are they called in english? In german it is "Schiffchen" (=boats, like the folded paper boat).
Also I saw an image in a book in your instagramm, from which book is it?

Regarding the backstory: I like the "normality" of it. Whenever I skim through homebrew regiments discriptions I have the impression that 3/4 of them are "the legendary elite, known through all the imperium for XY". Meanwhile not many choose a background that more resembles the "meat" of the Astra Militarum.

Edit: and also the pic of the sky elevator in your intro post is awesome

Thank you! I choose that hat design, because I wanted my army to have a unique look. Something not as combat or frontline oriented like a full Cadian/Catachan army, but not full parade ground like the Mordians. I think I found a good middle ground with the hats and no shoulder pads. When I joined the military, those style of hats are called "garrison" or "side" caps. Back in the day, when my dad was in the army he called it an "overseas" cap. No idea on why the name changed.

The reference photo I used for the theme of my army is from the 2019 Sabbat Worlds Crusade lore book. I don't own a copy, but have seen some scans of the artwork and it is very beautiful and detailed. Gives a great visual design and aid to the Gaunt's Ghosts books.

My main two goals when writing the backstory of my regiment was to keep it true to the established history of 40k and the lore of the Imperial Guard, as well as, I wanted the unit to feel part of the organization and not stand out as the poster of it. Will there be a heroic moment or two? Probably! (But that happens in sci fi military writings and in games of 40k thanks to good dice rolls ) I just didn't want them to seem like you said, some homebrew, elite, legendary, XYZ guys. These the regular human joes who have to defend their homes.

I can't take credit for the space elevator. It is from a quick google search for sci fi backgrounds.

@heroic moments: of course and they wanted it.
@headgear: yes I think those are very suited for the effect you wanted to achieve.

And generally: keep it up, it is a very nice start for some stories!

Here is a small lore entry. I noticed I only covered the recruitment of my regiment and did not discuss their training or fighting style. So here are some tid bits covering that.
Hope y'all enjoy!

+++New entry added to data stack+++

Regimental Training and Fighting Style

As per Kollax traditions, the regiment accepts recruits twice per solar cycle. Once during a summer induction and again during a winter induction. There is no minimum or maximum quota, but the intake of troops has always stayed at a steady level to support combat operations. Only a handful few times in Kollax history have there been a need for a draft or mandatory conscription to support the defense of the planet or sector. Many Auxiliaries volunteer for service at a young age. For example, the average age during the summer training cycle is 16-17 solar cycles. This is due to many Auxiliaries enlisting for service as a viable way to escape the boring life of work at the recycle plants. The two training cycles last about six solar months, with the summer cycles statically containing the larger influx of recruits.

The first two months are spent in Basic Recruit Training, also known informally as Boot Camp. During this period, recruits are taught basic disciplines of being an Auxiliary and introduced to teachings of the wider galaxy, such as: Ultramar, The greater Imperium, and the history of the Defense Legions and later regiments. It is also during this phase that Auxiliaries are selected for potential specialist duties and introduced to how the regiment conducts basic combat operations. After this point the recruits become full Auxiliaries and are transferred specialty school for follow on training. Most recruits attend the Basic Auxiliary Infantry Course for more in-depth tactical training and weapons familiarization before being sent on deployment to join the unit off world or report to their specific company if garrisoned at Elysium.

From a distance, the 2nd's fighting style mimics that of Mordian Iron Guard. With line formations of troopers marching toward the enemy. While at range Kollax Auxiliaries are taught to stay in specific formations based on local terrain features. This helps with weapons and fire control of squad leaders and ease of issuing orders from platoon and company commanders. In close combat or urban conditions, the practice of having the squad formed together is abandoned, instead Auxiliaries are taught to move with a predetermined partner or “battle buddy”. These pairs are led by the squad leader and assistant squad leader. Together these pairs support each other in movement and contacts within close environments. Even with the introduction of vox-casters and micro beads in recent decades, many commanders still hold true to the trainings of the regiment and have their troops line up in traditional Kollax formations. Secondly, the fighting formations reinforce the idea that Auxiliaries need to stand together in order to defeat the enemy. In training, Kollax Auxiliaries are taught that alone they will most likely die in combat or fail to complete and objective, but together they can hunt down any beast in the galaxy or successfully storm any gatehouse. This idealistic attitude also helps break the old recruit's way of thinking. Many recruits prior to service in the regiment would have a strong connection to their old economic bloc, colony, recycle plant, or even hive gang. By introducing this type of fighting style and connection to their fellow Auxiliaries, regimental leadership are able to create a strong loyalty to the unit and the Realm of Ultramar instead of prior backgrounds.

Either on defense or on the attack infantry formations are supported by organic heavy weapons support from the regiment’s artillery sections. These weapons often include Thudd Guns, Heavy Mortars, and even Rapier Laser Destroyers. These ancient weapons platforms are often refurbished from the various goods shipments sent to Kollax and retooled prior to being sent to the regiment for use in combat operations. These weapons while old and considered second line compared to newer Imperial equipment have served the regiment well. The use of the artillery batteries has shattered many opposing infantry formations and provided cover for advancing infantry units. The Rapier sections have also claimed many enemy armor sections in surprise ambushes and been used to slay larger xeno beasts when required.

Notable Auxilia & Support Personnel

André Layton:

Born M42.005 to Void Nomad immigrants. Father is noted as Astra Militarum personnel and mother is noted as Missionarus Galaxia Medicae nurse. Layton’s family settled in Nomad designated hab-blocks along the Green/Blue border region. Layton worked as a cargo transportation driver prior to enlistment. In M42.021, Layton was arrested by Adeptus Arbites for possession of +Redacted+ and assaulting an Imperial Noble. Following the trial, Layton voluntarily enlisted in the Ultramar Auxilia under Article 72B of Auxilia enlistment regulations.

Layton attended Basic Recruit Training and Basic Auxilia Infantry Course at Camp Eagle in Summer M42.022. Layton successfully graduated and was assigned to: E Company, 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Infantry, garrisoned at Block 13-3, Elysium Mega-City.

+++Error found in service record+++

Service start date noted at M42.019.
Missing Awards & Decorations: Combat Service Wreath and Moon War Service Ribbon w/ Arrowhead device.

+++Error found in service record+++

Layton would eventually be promoted to the rank of Corporal after serving in several minor engagements against Ork raiding parties and a particular event evolving an Eldar Warseer during a deployment assigned to an Ultramar Defense Fleet Cruiser on patrol through the Outer Rim of Parmenio. Layton would eventually return to Kollax and be reassigned to B Company, 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Regiment.

After another promotion to Sergeant and serving in a platoon sergeant billet, Layton was on a fast track within the 2nd and marked for future leadership positions by higher headquarters. After another successful deployment near the borders of Ultramar against a Tyranid Splinter Fleet, these assumptions of leadership potential were proven correct.

By this point in his career, Gunnery Sergeant Layton was not only a combat tested line NCO, but was also a fully qualified “Block” member of the regimental assault team and had completed two tours with Detachment-Phantom of the Joint Kollax Command. In M42.035, GySgt Layton was selected for acceptance into the Schola Kollax for Officer Candidate Training and Auxilia Infantry Leaders Course.

Upon graduation in the winter of M42.035, 2LT Layton was reassigned to 2nd Kollax Regimental Staff. Before taking any post, 2LT Layton was selected to serve as the Elysium Military Advisor to the third Mega-City, Nu Speelersport. Here André served a one year rotation as the “Green Ranger” where he was the officer in charge of Detachment E, also known as The Green Company, a small squad of veteran 2nd Kollax troops serving in the neighboring mega city. These troopers were charged with the safety of Elysium civilians living and working in New Speelersport, but more importantly, the security for the armories of Deathstrike missiles stored throughout the mega-city. These relics were leftover stockpiles from the Moon War and stored in case of use against +Redacted+.

In early M42.036, 1LT Layton was replaced and reassigned back to 2nd Kollax Regiment Staff where he was surprisingly promoted to the billet of Regimental Executive Officer and placed in charge of the regimental forward reconnaissance section. Over the next year and half, 1LT Layton balanced his staff duties and recce section’s selection & training program. Much of his time was spent preparing the entire 2nd Kollax for a large-scale deployment far from the borders of Ultramar. Finally, in early M42.038, orders from Auxilia High Command on Macragge ordered the full deployment of the entire 254th Auxiliary Battle Group to support a Mentors Legion strike force supporting the efforts of the Augustine Crusade against the forces of The Red Hand Dominate.

The following years of service in the Cetus-Scorpii Sector, would make André Layton’s career. For better or worse, they sent him and his regiment. Kollaxite Auxiliaries were never strangers to a fight, but nothing prepared them for the storm they would encounter. No brawl in the lower city, no firefight against Ork raiding parties, not even the tragedy of the Moon Conflicts. Nothing could have prepared the soldiers of the Kollax Expeditionary Force for the horrors of the Segmentum Obscurus and a true foe like the Kill-Brigades of The Red Hand.

Officially, the 2nd Kollax Auxiliary’s regimental nickname would always be the “Sky Eagles”. In the years after the regiment’s return from the Northern Wars, survivors would come to call the unit Box’s Boys... or more colorfully, Boxhead’s Bastards.

Eternal fame and infamy would be won in the burned out hive cities, scarred trench lines, and xeno jungles of the Augustine Crusade...

Wilhelm Na-'Grom

Born in mid M42.005 over the orbital docks of Occluda on the galactic western border of the 500 Worlds. He was born to an Ultramar Defense Fleet crewman and a colonist girl from Praetoria. Wil grew up on various ships, salvage & refit yards, and space docks before his father finally mustered out of the Fleet and settled on the strange little world of Kollax Prime. Wilhelm was able to find easy work on the salvage landing sites near Elysium. A part of him always wished to escape the docks. His whole life it was all he knew, but he dreamed of something more. Finally, by a stroke of luck or misfortune, Wilhelm saw a squad of auxiliaries returning from a deployment on the Outer Rim. The next morning Wilhelm dropped his tool kit off at the section Foreman’s office and walked across town to enlist.

Na-’Grom attended Basic Recruit Training and Basic Auxilia Infantry Course at Camp Eagle in Summer M42.022. Na-’Grom successfully graduated and was assigned to: A Company, 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Regiment (Infantry), garrisoned at Block 39-7, Elysium Mega-City.

In his personal journal entries recovered in later years, he recorded many entries discussing his private thoughts on his military service and life after active duty. One early entry he remarks a night out on town in the theater district on the upper west side of The Emerald City. That night he writes of running into a large group of troopers from E Company also celebrating the night away. For some strange reason he doesn’t know why he chose to stay out with them, but what he does remember from the haze of heavy amasec consumption was meeting André Layton. It was that night Wilhelm Na-’Grom remarked that the chance at a quiet career in the Auxilia disappeared...

Joseph Rivers:

Born in M42.003, into a large clan of hab-workers out of the western Elysium colony of Independent’s Peaks. Independent’s Peak, informally known as “The Peaks” sat on the border between Elysium’s colonial holdings and the fourth Mega-City of Haaplinn Highlands. Joseph Rivers was no stranger to the gang fighting that often erupted in the neighboring hab blocks. Like many worker colonies far from the sparkling center of the Emerald City, there were never enough arbites or local enforcers to always keep normal working rivalries from tipping over in brawls and block wars. Joseph was always quiet amongst his siblings and cousins. In the chaos of the crowded Rivers’ Clan hab-rooms, he always calmed himself by reading books off of his data slate. Joe worked almost every section of a recycling plant crew before enlisting. Like many young recyclers, Joe grew bored of stripping down the materials everyday. Instead of falling into the traps of narcotics use to dull the moments, Joe decided to do an enlistment in the Auxilia. A tour around on the Rim would be good. He thought to himself, he would make some money, see new worlds, and maybe meet an exotic off world girl or two. After finishing his last shift he jumped on the mag train and made his way to enlist...

Rivers attended Basic Recruit Training and Basic Auxilia Infantry Course at Camp Eagle in Summer M42.022. Rivers successfully graduated and was assigned to: E Company, 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Infantry, garrisoned at Block 13-3, Elysium Mega-City.

It was in Boot Camp that Joe Rivers met André Layton. After bonding over dreams of traveling off world and the desire to enjoy the company of pretty girls, the pair were inseparable in the training yards, barracks complex, and on city-pass. André would drag Joe out into town on adventures with the other more extroverted E Company troopers. Their nights in garrison were filled with cheap amasec, lho-sticks, and getting rejected by girls. To Joe Rivers it was the life he always read about in the books from his data-slate and something he was missing in the surrounded confines of his old colony home and the packed work stations of the recycling plant. He found excitement, loyalty, and adventures; but most importantly, he found a family.

Society

The four mega cities that control the major economic blocs of Kollax are New Kollax City, Elysium, Nu Speelersport, and Haaplinn’s Highlands. These four mega cities are said to have evolved from the original landing sites of the great colony ships that brought the first humans to Kollax Prime prior to the Old Night. In the past, noble houses once ruled these great coalitions. In the current Imperial era, the cities have turned over leadership to democratically elected leadership councils that represent various aspects of the mega city’s society.

In addition to the mega cities, each of them maintain colonial holdings outside the borders and walls of the great urban centers and recycling manfactrums. In these colonies is where a majority of the workforce will live and work. It takes a great many people to unload cargo shipments once planet side and even more to main the truck convoys hauling gear or to crew and maintain the mag trains.

Even though Kollax belongs to the lineage of Macragge, there are still some points in Kollaxite society that would have a negative stain if showcased more often or brought to light. For example, two major points that continue to hurt Kollaxites are the inter-mega city violence as a result of rivalries developed by the economic blocs. Second to this is the class based divides. Glass walls have existed throughout the development of Kollax Prime. While the old noble houses are gone, many elected officials come from those same family trees. Advancement from the working class to middle class or eventually noble levels is non-existent without extraordinary measures, such as exemplary military service or pre-determined marriage. In addition to these, there is also the maltreatment of the significant immigrant populations since the reestablishment of the 500 Worlds.

+++Battle of Priad's Folly+++

In 042.M42, The 2nd Kollax were deployed to assist Mentor Legion strike teams in assaulting Priad's Folly. A series of orbital stations that were manned by traitors and xeno mercenaries loyal to the Red Hand. The Mentor Legion’s Elite Cadre decapitated the Red Hand leadership in the sector, but it fell to the regiments of the 254th Ultramar Auxila Battle Group to assault and set beachheads within the network of stations. The auxiliaries of the 2nd Kollax were well prepared for the ship to station assaults required to set up these footholds and the follow up close quarters fighting that immediately ensued. Detachments of Kollax Auxiliaries were deployed to assist Mentors in striking key sites and providing security during operations. The Elite Cadre's main objective was to hunt down xeno mercenaries that had been harassing the flanks of NorthStar forces by the order of the Inquisition's Ordo Xenos. One fact forgotten during this “successful” combat deployment was the high number of casualties suffered by Alpha and Charlie companies of the 2nd Kollax. These rifle companies required a high number of replacements from Ultramar and local recruits before being able to deploy personnel to forward locations again. Assisting the Elite Cadre in these forward strike actions earned the auxiliaries a nod from Imperial High Command after being rotated off the main battle line and were key noted for future actions.

Pictured above is a high resolution screen capture from a recording aboard an unmarked Imperial Navy vessel shortly after the Battle of Priad’s Folly during the Augustine Crusade.

Center in the pic-capture is Captain André Layton. Ultramar Defense Auxilia service records at this time indicate he was still a Auxiliary-Captain and was assigned to 2nd Kollax Auxiliary Regiment as the Executive Officer (XO). It appears he is in violation of Imperial regulations by consuming alcohol on duty while “inspecting” enlisted auxiliaries.

Accompanying Captain Layton is Sergrant Wilhelm Na-‘Grom (Second from left). Grom served as a veteran support troop in the regiment’s forward reconnaissance section. Often found servicing broken down vehicles and walkers, but more often being pressed into assisting combat actions.

The atmosphere surrounding the 2nd Kollax after the Battle of Priad’s Folly was that of optimism and success. While many auxiliaries died taking the hardened stations from fierce xeno mercenary elements, the battle group as a whole solidified it’s usefulness to the Crusade’s leadership. The Kollax Regiments would be given the opportunity to regroup and reconsolidate prior to new deployments. Their talent and discipline in combat would be called into service on many new fronts and battle spaces over the course of the Crusade.

Pictured above is a photo of -Redacted-, an Imperial Senator from the Realm of Ultramar. He was sent to join the Kollax Expeditionary Force to monitor the situation of the crusade an its relation to Ultramar Auxilia, Fleet, and most importantly the Merchant Guilds of the Eastern Fringe. In this pic-capture it should be noted he carries a basic pattern sword with gold ornamentation, common amongst nobility, but what is interesting is the MK 45 bolt pistol. Typically reserved for select Auxilia officers. Further investigation notes that the pistol serial number is registered to Captain Laytón, a childhood friend of the diplomat. Several times during the crusade he was forced to join the battle line and assist the Auxiliaries in combat. On several journeys he was guarded by the esteemed Regimental Forward Reconnaissance Section… The notorious Pathfinders.
