Subject: Confirmation wanted: Deny the Witch is not a Psychic Test

This came up in a game I played the other day. My opponent insisted that bonuses, rerolls, etc to cast on psychic tests also applied to DtW tests. My impression is that this has not been true for several editions - that DtW is not a psychic test, as evidenced by the fact that some units say they get both +x to psychic tests and DtW, while others say only to psychic tests; if psychic tests included DtW, Ahriman (for example) would actually get +2 to DtW - +1 to all psychic tests, and an additional +1 to DtW since it is specifically mentioned.
I just wanted to confirm that I'm not crazy here.

My read of the MRB indicates that Psychic Tests and Deny the Witch Tests are indeed separate things. So as you say, a Psyker would have to have something specific on their datasheet giving them a bonus to Deny the Witch.

Definitely different things. The rules specify what a Psychic test and DtW test are under their own headings and you can see from the rules for casting powers that they are distinct from one another.

I agree with the above statements. While they are both psychic abilities in lore, they are separate abilities with separate rules in game. Affects that apply to one do not necessarily apply to the other.

DTW is not a Psychic Test and you can’t suffer Perils on it either, as an opponent of mine once tried to claim!
