So my best mate getting back in to Flames of War inspired me to start painting some of my backlog last year. I decided to start with my small Warmachine force that had literally been sitting on my desk, in two different houses for years.

Of course part way through this little project I got sidetracked by the Indomitus release. Getting all hot and bothered for the new Necrons I decided to get straight into painting them with the aim of getting back in to some games of 40k. This is perilously close to being my first fully painted force pretty much every.

In amongst all of this I also decided to paint my old metal Bjorn the Felhanded, though I don't have a picture of that one handy.

Finally my FLGS has recently started having monthly painting competitions, the down side is that you have to buy something there to paint. April was 'Monster' month and my significant other was keen for us both to have a go, so while she made the smart choice to buy a small D&D monster, I dedcided to buy the Slaves to Darkness start collecting box and paint the Lord on Karkadrak. This ate up four weeks of my painting time, but I'm reasonably pleased with how it turned out.

My current work in progress is the Necron Overlord from the Indomitus box.

Inspired by Richard Gray's Shiny Bob I decided to have a go at painting this guy in NMM. While I'm ok with my progress, I'm finding it difficulty to get a genuninely shiny look to my NMM. Regardless I shall keep plodding away for now.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

A small update on my work in progress. It was mother's day here in Oz yesterday so I didn't get much painting done over the weekend. Spent some time pushing my highlights up, doing the glaive (though I missed the small bit at the bottom) and blocking in colour some other areas. With any luck I'll get this finished during the week and I can move on to a different project.

In addition to Mother's Day we also have a one year old at home, which makes painting during the day pretty difficult. My daylight hobby time is instead generally restricted to cutting & glueing. So I have also manage to clip, clean and partially assemable some old Chaos Warriors. Unfortately I would like to arm them with halberds which they don't come with, and I'm not willing to fork out $75 for enough GW resin ones to outfit the unit. So instead I'm going to attempt to craft some using the axe heads from the box and some brass rod. Fingers crossed they look ok.

Great bunch of Necrons, the orange ties the various units together really nicely

It's been quite a while since I posted an updated, flu season with a toddler in daycare and a really busy time at work leading up to end of financial year really slowed me down.

Thank you all for the kind words about my Necrons, to that end I have a new (WIP) addition. This bad boy has been out of stock since before Christmas last year (in my local store), so I was pretty excited when it finally arrived.

Quite a lot or work to do still (including cleaning up that now blaring obvious mould line on the tail). I spend about two hours painting all of the energy effects, only to decide I completely hated how it was progressing. So I masked everything else off, reprimed and airbrushed it instead. Here is my before effort about to be covered over:

I did manage to finish getting some paint on my Khador models. Sorry about the crappy photos, I really should have used my camera rather than my less than stellar phone.

I must say I particularly disliked painting the Great Bears minis, lots of the details were poorly defined and it was hard to tell that they were supposed to be. In the end I put much less time into them that I probably should have, but at least (once I finish the bases) I can cross them off my list.

I also have a small display board in progress for my Kahdor, once I get finished with the Void Dragon I will get it finished and post a pic.

Nice work on the void dragon, I hope the rework ends up how you want it to. Those widowmakers are cool minis, with a cool paint scheme. Nice one!

Thanks Gobert! I'm much happier with my re-work on the energy effects.

Another weeks worth of on and off painting has brought me much closer to finishing. My local store has a monthly painting comp which I'll be entering this into, so I thankfully have a deadline of this Saturday to finish. Otherwise I think I could spend ages fiddling with little bits and peices on this model, and I have way too many things in the queue that need painting.

I should hopefully have some proper pics of the finished product next week. Then I plan to moving on to finishing my little display board for my Khador minis.

So I ran up against my deadline and had to stop fiddling with my Void Dragon, finish the base and get it down to my local store for judgement. Lucky for me I was selected as one of the two winners and scored some store credit with which I'll inevitably use to buy more plastic crack!

It seems I still haven't taken a photo of the completely finished model by itself, but here are a couple, one before I tidied up the base rim and added some tufts and the other in a group shot with some of my other necrons. I'll try and add a better shot of the finished thing over the weekend.

With no more assembled necrons left to paint it has been on to other projects. I spent pretty much all of my free nights in July painting so I've been having a non-painting week. Instead I've been working on assembling and kitbashing some models for my renewed Space Wolves project.

First WIP of my heavy intercessor/terminator kitbashes. Terminators are my favourite models from my childhood, the first White Dwarf I ever saw was 194 featuring a 2nd edition battle report between Dark Angels and Orks. I instantly fell in love with the Deathwatch Terminators models. That said, the oddly proportioned Terminators haven't really stood the test of time.

So inspired by quite a few other people's efforts, but most noticebly OSJC's - https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/150/776725.page#11155339, I dediced to try my hand at something similar.

Currently this is mostly held together by blutack. Looking at the picture I clearly need to do some reposing of the legs if I want him standing on the rock, I'll have to see if I'm feeling adventurous enough to do some cutting at the hip joints.

Another kitbash WIP and another 'borrowed' idea. I can't remeber where I saw this originally, but it's just the Indomitus Captain model with the big thunder hammer from the Death Watch Veterens box and a terminator shoulder pad. My plan is to wolf him up a bit with some GW parts and some greenstuff work inspired by Valbjorn on instagram - https://www.instagram.com/valbjorn/

Finally as I was waiting for the weekend to begin my greenstuff adventures I took the opportunity to start assembling Ragnar last night. While I really love the new model, I'm not keen on the ruined Acquila on the base. Unfortunately since his foot is part of the Acquila peice it might be tricky to remove it. I can maybe turn it into a rock without much trouble, but if anyone has some other ideas I'd love to hear them.

Lovely work on that Void Dragon mate, really beautiful fleshtones that pop against his own orange magic and the NMM of the other crons. Deserving of the win and glad to hear it will fund more projects!

Space puppy builds looking good in the early stages. I always love following minis as they progress from blueprint to finished product, and will be following these with interest.

Thanks for sharing!

Congrats on the store credit, free crack! The Space Wolves plans look promising. As for the Aquila, you could mould a rock around it, but you might be able to trim it back with a saw or even clippers and replace it with an Ork or something else?
