I stumbled over this rather cool real life photo and am considering adding some guys like that to my rough riders. Unfortunatly when I google for "water buffalo model" etc. I get flooded with models of the water buffalo amphibious tank of the WWII US army. Does anybody know a source for these animals in a size that suits an IG rider? Maybe from some childs toy company?

Thanks Dances with Squads, that might work. Maybe I find one of those in my local Games store and can have a look at it from some different angles. But it's definitly the closest I have seen so far.

Not a problem. Bushido models are 32mm ish and beautifully sculpted/easy to put together. Unfortunately my Bushido opponent that has the model doesn’t have a camera phone so I can’t give you a good GW comparison photo.

I think some Guard on Buffaloes would look excellent, I look forward to seeing what you can do with it.

My main concern with the models listed so far are the horns that are differently shaped on the african water buffalo compared to the asian one from the pic.

I found that Empress miniatures seems to produce the shaped I like in 1/50 scale. I think I will give those a try:
