Hello everyone!

I haven’t played AoS since launch, and a friend of mine and I have decided to jump into it in the dumbest way possible- by signing up for the Lone Star Open team AoS tournament!

I’m running Ironjawz and he’s running beastmen. We’ve both got our battletomes, but I’m not sure what else we need to have to play.

Specifically I’m wondering if I have to drop coin on the big Rulebook or if I can get away with the $35 gaming book. Also, do I need the GH 2020?

Are there other books that are must haves? I see a slot for putting what realm my army is from on the warscroll builder, and I have no idea what that is. Is that another book I have to buy? I’m trying to avoid buying as many books as possible with the rumor of AoS 3.0 coming out soon...

Also, any other information I should know in advance or plan for? I probably won’t get any games that aren’t against my teammate before the tournament, so any pointers are appreciated!

Honestly, you need to check with the TO (or look at the event pack) to see what they're expecting you to bring and if they're using "extra" rules like the realms.

From the player pack:

Tournament House Rules:
-Any kind of ability you can choose before the game must be chosen before the event and recorded on your army roster clearly. These choices are made for the entire tournament, and cannot be changed during the event.
-Realm Artefacts and the Realm Spells will be used as outlined in the current set of rules.
-Realms of Battle Rules will be used. The Realms and Realmscape Feature will be used at this event.
-Endless Spells will be used at this event.
-Any rules out the more than two weeks before the event are usable at the event, that would be July 10th. Any FAQ posted before the event would be in effect unless it changes point values, then it must be posted a week before the event.
-Models must be on round bases, please use the base size suggestions provided by GW in the CORE RULES & BASE SIZES. Base sizes can give you an undue advantage in gameplay, so please use the suggested bases.
-The Mysterious Landscape rules will be used for any piece of terrain that does not already have a rule, like a Realmgate for example.

What you will need to bring or do:
-A fully painted army.
-Two hard copies of your army list, sometimes tech goes bad.
-Dice, a tape measure, pen or pencil, and any counters you need for remembering stuff.
-A set of all the unit stats and rules you are using for you and your opponents to refer to.
-Glue and tools for repairs would be nice.

The Realms of Battle Rules are in the GH, so you probably do want that.

You just need the latest generals handbook and the core rulebook. There are missions in the core rulebook which might come up in tournament games, for a total of 18 possible missions.

Besides that, the usual stuff (models, dice, battletome etc).

Cheers folks!

So when you say I need the core Rulebook, does that mean the big $60 book or can I just get the $35 softback?

$60 hardback core book has the matched play missions in it, the smaller core book released a year or two ago with all the missions in it is out of date. 6 missions which are in thr core book, and 12 in the generals handbook which change a bit each year.
