The idea is that i don't want to buy the Chaos Space Marine start collecting box set just to get those two Obliterators.
They're too fleshy looking anyway, so wouldn't fit in with my Iron Warrior Army i'm starting.
So i was wondering if the Adeptus Titanicus models for the Cerastus Knights Acheron & Castigator would work as a count as?
The start collecting Obliterators are on a 50mm base, so are the smaller titans from Adeptus Titanicus.
What are your thoughts on heavily converting them to use as Obliterators?
Using all the spare plasma/melta/flamer parts i have left over from my other Iron Warriors..

The Rule of Cool covers a lot of sins. As always with these questions, check with your regular opponents and TO’s. They are the people you need to be on board with this.

The first rule of counts-as is that is should have the same base size and roughly the same silhouette. For game play mechanics, LOS, etc. I’ve not seen either of those models IRL, so don’t know how they compare. Looking at pics online the knights seem a little gaunt compared to the oblits, bit tacking on extra guns might fix that, or they might be close enough.

The second thing about counts-as is that you should try to adhere to the sprit of WYSWYG, even if you part with the actual what you see bit. If I look at them, I want to see a big, slow, tough unit that packs a lot of shooting. I think those knights could fit that look.

If the base & model size are roughly the same, why not. Speaking as somebody who owns both though, Obliterators are a lot bulkier, so you'd need to do some work

I think cerastus knights might be a little small and need bulking up but go for it. I bought the titanicus questoris kit for iron hands conversion bits and they are very close in size to space marines. The porphyryon knight might be a bit closer in size? I’m guessing you want arms though. Do they make a titanicus asterius knight?

Edit: okay just saw some size comparisons—I do think their hight at least looks like the cerastus would work fine as an oblit.

Should be fine. I'd be a little concerned with the scale not quite feeling right, but if you use 40k-scale weapons and heads it should look ok.

Another alternative that would fit right in with Iron Warriors is the Ambot kit from Necromunda.

Before you do that, have you thought about finding the older Obliterator models on ebay? I prefer them over the new ones. (I have nine of them)

I'm currently planning out the Obliterators I want as Centurions using an Autocannon arm and then drills on the second arm. It doesn't really explain the randumb with the stats but six shots should be represented fine.

Ad Mech Kataphron breachers - replace the servitor bits with Chaos Marine body and head.

I plan on doing that for my Iron Warriors Exile force Oblits

I think GW would have sold a lot more models if they didn’t have these units imprisoned in this box set, why oh why do they do it. If you find some good obliterator models put them in the thread.

I also would like to ask the same question re venomcrawlers

AT Cerastus Knights would be far too small and skinny for Obliterators. I used to use AdMech Thallax before they released the new Oblits. Thy were roughly the same size, had thrusters to represent the Deep Strike, had weird weapons and were on the same bases.

Probably the same reason why the only official Helbrute model used to be in the Dark Vengeance box, before they finally released the Helbrute kit years later. My guess is that they have separate kits designed and ready to be put into production, but there are only so many kits they can produce at once so they're waiting for a good slot to release more CSM stuff. It also gives them a chance to squeeze more money out of the Shadowspear moulds before coming out with the full kits.

It was really bizarre. I still don't understand why they never got released alongside the rest of the chaos, nor why Mahreens can get THREE full line releases in less than 2 years, but Chaos Marines couldn't get Chosen, New Lords, etc.

One day...

One day there will be a plastic obliterator/mutilator dual kit. And I will finally be able to build the Obliterator Cult army I have always wanted. I even have the obliterator-daemon prince converted up and ready to go.

Have you thought about heavily converting Space Marine Centurions? They are the right size. Swap in a Chaos Marine helmet, some more cables and guns, and then add Chaos iconography.

Space Marine Centurions are a good base for converting into Obliterators.

They really need to be consolidated into a singular profile, just like Assault Centurions and Devastator Centurions.

No you won't, the rules will have changed by then.

It's not about the rules it's about the fluff.
