Hey, I've been out of 40k for a long time and wanted to get back into the swing of things with a low model count 1k army. Custodes seemed to fit that bill. Mostly for casual play, but hey, it's nice to win sometimes.
Any feedback and advice welcome.

++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Adeptus Custodes) [48 PL, 5CP, 998pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Battle Size [6CP]: 2. Incursion (51-100 Total PL / 501-1000 Points)

Shield Host: Dread Host

+ Stratagems +

Open the Vaults [-1CP]: Open the Vaults: 1 Extra Relic

+ HQ +

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 178pts]: Auric Aquilas, Hurricane Bolter, Misericordia, Superior Creation, Warlord

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 178pts]: Eagle's Eye, Misericordia, Salvo Launcher

+ Troops +

Custodian Guard Squad [7 PL, 145pts]

Vexilus Praetor in Allarus Terminator Armor [7 PL, 118pts]: Misericordia, Vexilla Imperius

++ Total: [48 PL, 5CP, 998pts] ++

I like the idea of the Allarus and the Vexilla dropping down and using the Dread Host charge strategem.
The two captains on jetbikes just seemed too good not to take with all the relics available that make them so damn tough. 2+/3++/5+++? Jesus.

Solid list for a start, although the double drop does not work.The Teleport homes strat forbids to use it with a Vexilus that DS the same turn.

The list is solid, can't go wrong with terminators at 1000p.

I think he was talking about the "golden light of the moraides" stratagem and not "vexilla teleport homer". Golden light of the moraides lets you charge with 3d6 pick the highest from DS.

Well in that case the vexila is most likely a net negative you pay points for.
The Vexila adds
2 S5 AP -2 D1 attacks and
3 S8 AP-3 D3 attacks
for 115 pts
If you invest that in one more Terminator, you not only get more shooting, but also
4 S8 AP-3 D3 attacks and
1 S5 AP -2 D1 for 40 pts less...

Unless you have more forces nearby, like the jetbikes or a guard squad, its an inferior choice.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I'd personally say 2 bike captains at 1k pts is overkill, a 3rd unit of guard would serve you better imo. Though either way you're gonna have problems: the bike captains aren't as tough or as killy as a unit of guard but guard don't have a ton of mobility.

And I'd also probably swap out the Terminator Vexilla for a regular Vexilla and give him the -1 to hit banner: a unit of sword and board guard protecting a -1 to hit banner is one of the hardest things to move in the game, especially in cover with their 0+ armour saves making them ignore AP-1/-2.

In respect to the 2nd jetbike captain being overkill, and the Vexilus not being worth the points for the buff he gives, here is Mk2.

++ Patrol Detachment 0CP (Imperium - Adeptus Custodes) [49 PL, 5CP, 998pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Battle Size [6CP]: 2. Incursion (51-100 Total PL / 501-1000 Points)

Shield Host: Dread Host

Open the Vaults [-1CP]: Open the Vaults: 1 Extra Relic

+ HQ +

Shield Captain in Allarus Terminator Armor [6 PL, 115pts]: Admonimortis, Castellan Axe

Shield-Captain on Dawneagle Jetbike [9 PL, 178pts]: Auric Aquilas, Salvo Launcher, Misericordia, Superior Creation, Warlord

+ Troops +

Custodian Guard Squad [7 PL, 142pts]
. Custodian: Sentinel Blade, Storm Shield
. Custodian: Guardian Spear
. Custodian: Guardian Spear

Custodian Guard Squad [7 PL, 142pts]
. Custodian: Sentinel Blade, Storm Shield

. Custodian: Guardian Spear

Custodian Guard Squad [11 PL, 187pts]
. Custodian: Sentinel Blade, Storm Shield
. Custodian: Guardian Spear

+ Elites +

Allarus Custodians [9 PL, 234pts]
. Allarus Custodian: Castellan Axe, Misericordia
. Allarus Custodian: Castellan Axe, Misericordia
. Allarus Custodian: Castellan Axe, Misericordia

++ Total: [49 PL, 5CP, 998pts] ++

Terminator captain still supports the allarus and can still make the most of Dread Hosts strategem. Extra guard unit for more bodies.

Thats a solid base now that can be expanded on as you like. You should go easy tho on pregame CPs. Admonimortis is tempting, but an Eagle Eye can probably do more for you since once one Terminator dies, your captain is up for grabs and shootable.
Giving your lone rangeing Dawneagle Captain a WLT via Captain-Commander the Indomutable Constitution WLT makes him a REALLY tough takedown at that points level.
2+/3++/5+++ at T6 with 9W is monstrous.

Yeah the normal set up is Trajann Valoris as your foot lord to give the re-roll 1s to hit/wound aura and also for the free stratagem (taking trajann is basically +2/3CP for your army), and then running a jetbike Captain with Auric Aquilas, Superior Creation, Captain-Commander (Indomitable Constitution) and Victor of the Blood Games. Though at only 6CP, taking VotBG might be a bit much but at the same time taking Trajann for the free stratagem becomes even more enticing: but then you've got the problem of points restrictions.

What you've got is a nice base for an army though, good luck with it!

Would this idea of a list lose me friends or just lose me games due to lack of objective grabbing?

Will definately NOT lose you friends, that's somewhat tame.

At that pts level, you're better off giving the telemon a fist. You cant screen it with Custodes anyway, and it saves you a few pots you could, and should, invest in more sword/shield combos. Because those are TOUGH basterds.

Well that's good! Adding the fist in the end means 2 storm shields per squad.

Do you have an opinion of which of these lists in this thread are more tactically viable?

Its a tough call at 1k, but you'll have to hold your home objective - 3 units of troops is too much for that.
You can even let the Telemon do that without a guard squad if there's not much AT, which means you have enough push with troops for the midfield objs with the galatus and dawneagle.
But if you go bigger, adding the Allarus back in for additional pressure (or defense) is a good thing.
