Someone posted a couple of images in DA FB group, it's literally a copy of Vigilus rules. Nothing additional, same strats, and relc sword (that does't even get the +1S of other powerswords). Absolute minimum trash effort.

Not surprised, but disappointed that they at least didn't try to do just a little more.

Where have these come from as the white dwarf isn’t available until Thursday

It's a genius new business model: invalidate content from prior book, then reprint it in White Dwarf to fill up pages and make the rules usable again if someone shells out the additional $10!

The real question is where do you get your copies?

While it is nice they made this stuff usable since Vigilus was axed this is... to put it in the words of an infamous president - sad.

It would have been more "nice" if they had just allowed the Fallen rules in Vigilus to remain legal (like they did for the Black Legion rules), instead of asking for more money for a reprint of those rules. Even "nicer" would have been expanding on those rules.

That's pretty disappointing. It smacks of the WD team needing a filler article and just grabbing something from an existing publication.

It would have been easy to just allow FALLEN to be selected as a <LEGION> keyword and provide a simple Legion Trait. All the rest could be copy/pasted from Vigilus for all I care, but keeping the army strictly to non-Tournament Matched Play (and very restricted Crusade) is absolutely rubbish.

I guess on the (very small) plus side, the few players who might have wanted to start a Fallen army can now do so without having to buy Vigilus, though they'd still be heavily restricted in what kind of game they can play. And honestly, how many people would be doing that?

I suggest voicing your concerns to the WD team:

Unfortunate, despite the Fallen being a major fixture (arguably too much in some cases) for DA, which is definitely one of the more iconic SM factions, they basically never get any love for their actual rules which is weird IMO. They go out of their way to make obscure/new chapters like the Silver Templars or The Emperor's Spears to have rules (even if the chapter traits are reworded versions of the make your own versions) like WL, relics and a strats, but Fallen get nothing but rehashes of barebones rules. With Luther on the loose, you'd think now would be a good time to give them a revamp and justify the DA's paranoia on why they hunt them so zealously.

Maybe they will include a Name Generator?

This sucks except I never bought vigilus so this is a cheaper was of getting the rules and I assume a bit of lore that hopefully doesn’t read like someone knocked it up on their lunch break.

It’s a shame because of of the pictures from the advert looked like they might be doing a new fallen unit (models) but I guess not.

It always makes me wonder why they do things like go to the effort of making a new cypher model when they have no interest in delivering game play for that model

Was it THAT bad? They didn't even give Fallen W2?

If they start giving CSM 2W then the CSM players won't get frustrated and start new armies before their Codex comes along.

Another missed opportunity.
I'll start my Fallen army when GW care: as long as they don't, I'm neither.

Out of curiosity when was the last time white dwarf published material that was worth reading? I mean I supppose if they have decent painting and modeling guides or maybe the battle reports would be fun to read... but at least to me the material isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on in most cases but I don’t ever value anything listed in the table of contents.

I used to think modern WD was rubbish too but I've since changed my mind. These days, I enjoy reading the free sample pages showcasing miniatures painted & converted by the community! Easily worth the 0€ price

I think if your going to stick the fallen in the front of the cover only to reprint old material then the answer is they don’t make anything worth reading. Same as putting bile on the front of war of the spider and then giving him 1% of the book’s content.

It’s like GW recognise there is a market within the fan base for these armies but hates those customers for not wanting to exclusively play whatever big releases are coming out so this is thier way of giving them the finger

Is it too soon for an "I told you so"?

No wait that was another dakkanaut.

Still, those who expected anything remotly worth an effort , were severly under ilusions as to what nowadays passes as a wd list.

this guy get's it.

This is basically the equivalent of remonetisation of a subfaction. And since it's fallen so double fringe, it will just get a pass and gw will still make some bucks off of the few that actually wanted to once field such a subfaction.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

There are apparently 8 pages of fluff that go with the rules. But the lift and shift from vigilus is disappointing.

Can I ask, these rules only apply if you take fallen as a specialist detachment in a battle forged army? Otherwise you just use the rules in the CSM codex

If the rules are cut-paste, why don't you just use Vigilus? Seems to me like this issue of the mag is only useful to people who don't have that book, all others can continue on as normal?

No, because Vigilus got disallowed by GW in it's transition to 9th.
so technically it's not legal anymore which can lead to issues.

The only issue is that GW is not telling something like "ehy guys, for all of you that missed Vigilius you can have your Fallen rules here".
They're saying "Vigilius isn't legit anymore, but you can find the rules in WD".

So, feth them.
