I took a break from tabletop miniatures gaming, but last year I bought a resin printer and went to town printing models and terrain for an ongoing Dungeons and Dragons terrain.
With the release of STARGRAVE and A BILLION SUNS, I decided to try my hand at designing my own custom 3D models to print for my games.
I've actually become very prolific in creating an average of a new model a day, to the point where I'm creating them faster than I can print, paint, and use them.

I plan on updating this thread with my 3D modeling progress. For the past few weeks I've share progress pictures on Facebook and Reddit, but they don't match the experience of a DakkaDakka thread.

Hey they look pretty cool! A model a day is super quick as well...

What software are you using?

And look forward to seeing your progress!

Looking good so far. Panel lining would go a long way here to make them stand out a bit.

Going to start off with one of my favorite early designs, It is a Medium Transport Vessel I designed to use for A Billion Suns

Detachable cargo containers on the sides

Also created a variant with the front cargo pods replaced with weapons batteries

Clicking on the pictures will bring you to a larger version of the picture in the gallery.

Are you talking about a painting technique or a modeling one?

What software are you using?

Tinkercad at the moment.
The tutorials were short and it is intuitive to use. It's basically building with really customizable shapes.
Great for ships and robots, not so much for animals. I'll eventually teach myself how to use something more complicated, but I haven't maxed out with what can be done with Tinkercad yet.

So today at lunch I had an idea. I have these empty pill bottles from vitamins and I need some industrial machinery terrain for one of the Stargrave scenarios.

Turn the bottle sideways, mount it on a base with control panels and other details, add some discs on the end, and you have some futuristic machinery.
Part recycling, part 3D printing. If I had to scratch build this, I probably would only make one because of the time involved, but with the 3D printer I can print as many as I have pill bottles with little effort.

The finished model should be roughly 65mm tall and 100mm across. Big enough to block line of sight, but not huge on the battlefield.
I'm looking to make 4-6 of them.

This is what I came up with in about an hour of fiddling around.

I'll follow up once I get a chance to print one.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, have a handful of 5hr energy drink bottles as well.

Nice. Simple but effective.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I was worried that the bottle wouldn't sit properly, but it fits like a glove.

This is an idea I had for a greenhouse terrain piece. Used a Mountain Dew bottle to make the see-through roof.

Very cool upcycling of bottles, and nice ships.

Created a set of Data Loot Objective Markers

Also made some variations to the Crystal Crab Model. The original model looks good when printed, but I could do better.
The legs were a bit thin and extended past the edge of the 25mm bases I wanted to mount them on.

The new versions are a bit beefier, with legs that now sit on a 25mm base. Also introduced some small variations between them in the position of legs and claws and the shape of the carapace.

Okay, after toying with the Crystal Crabs, I looked at what other people were using for Magmites and I created a new design somewhere between the Crystal Crabs and the Frostgrave Magmite model.

I made this design this morning, exported the STL, sliced it, and I have 3 of these printing as I type this.

I'll post pictures of the actual models once they are done printing.

Also, for fun, I'm trying something new. I created a 30mm base with "Magmite" along the rim, for easy identification by new players.

Looking for more Stargrave models, I came across this Glas Spider from Frostgrave. Looked cool and simple, and reminds me of the Star Wars Bomar Monks
Spoiler:

So I created this real quick

Meeseeks Gallery On Dakka

I had an idea about a Rick and Morty themed crew for Stargrave so I had to make them. They are Remixes of Dricket's Remix of 3DPrintGuy's original Meeseeks model. I created some new weapons and gear for them in Tinkkercad to arm them appropriately for STARGRAVE.
