So in this thread we look at how my 10 year old son is a better painter than I am as he starts building out his Death Guard.

First up, this is his Lord of Contagion from the "Know No Fear" box set.

I seriously couldn't have done better.

Here he is from the front

Aaaand the back.

He's working on his Plauge Marines next... will bring them in when ready.

It's a good start, his process works well for Nurgle...
The only thing I could suggest is to not put the wash on the start of the flames

Nice! Is that all done with contrast paints?

I've been in the hobby for as long as he's been alive, I think. (I started getting into it around the 6th edition Necrons, I think. Maybe 5th. Didn't really get an army for a while though.)

And he's a million times better than I am. In other words, hot damn! Your son is doing AMAZING! Much props!

He's largely painting with diverse Citatdel base paints (it's what I have), he said he only used Snakebite Leather on the axe handle, and lots of Agrax Earthshade. He mostly tried to follow the guide that comes with the "Know No Fear" set, but customized in a few spots.

Up soon will be his Foetid Bloat Drone.

Fantastic painting, cant exalt this thread hard enough. Was this the first thing he painted ever?

His first set was tyranids last year, which he also did great on. Will post those later. He moved on to marine (will get those in eventually as well, but then he felt like painting some of the cool models that also came in "First Strike" and "Know no fear". He started with pox walkers and then some Marines but now he's really jumped up in ability over the last few months. So far I think this is some of his best work, and he's WAY above my level when I was his age. Heck, my guardsmen don't get as much love as these little beasties. More coming soon.

It's great to see a new youngblood get into the hobby. Your son is doing an excellent job. Can't wait to see what's next.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

To your point he came and specifically asked how to do highlighting so he could get the guts to look right. I showed him how to look for where the light would go, and paint the lighter color there on top of the existing dark coat. I think he nailed it.

Here's his Foetid Bloat Drone. All these other ones are earlier thant he Lord of Contagion which I think is his best piece, but this one got my attention. It was more complicated than most of the models he's done especially the spindly attachments for the guns, but he got it.

He keeps bouncing back and forth between painting his Space Marines (Raven Guard successor), and Death Guard that came in the kits. Though he says he isn't really planning on playing Death Guard seriously (told him I'd be happy to play OPFOR), he says DG breaks up the monotony of painting intercessors

He's also got his friend coming over once a week to paint a copy of First Strike we gave him last year. The other kid (same age) wants to do a Blood Angel successor. Probably going to give him a Tac Marine /Dread starter set for his birthday this year. Got to get em hooked

It's good that your kids are getting involved, I tried with my eldest but they just weren't interested.
There hope for my youngest though, they keep stealing my minis and "painting" them with water.
