Considering the early indication that the fallen index is a bust, which was something that was going to get me to buy a copy of GW (probably the 2nd in 2 years) does anyone actually buy it or subscribe?
If so what for? Considering the weekly updates from warhammer community about upcoming releases, painting guides and battle reports all over YouTube, what’s left for them to provide that’s worth the money?
Ages ago in the days of 2nd - 4th/5th there'd often be useful game content. So I regularly picked up issues & eventually just had a subscription.
Somewhere along the line the format changed & useful content petered out. When that happened I stopped getting issues.
Now days? Since there's occasional useful stuff in WDs pages again (40k or Sigmar, I play both) I pick up the occasional issue.
Last one was the issue with all the free PC games in it.
The next one....?
I sometimes give them a look, but they so bare I can read though any content I would want in the few mins I am deciding.
I have piles of old ones that we still dig out that still holds interest.
miss the old times where it was an actual decent hobby magazin showing of conversions, even out of toys etc. sharing tipps on what to kitbas together etc, or having just good thematic lists in them, like vampire pirates for WHFB, etc.
Nowadays though... quality and quantity of content don't justify the pricetag.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units." Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?" Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?" GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!" Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.
When I started back in the day, during 3rd and 4th edition I bought it regularely.
I enjoyed background articles like Index Astartes, new models being shown, battle reports and growing army projects.
Basically everything apart from LotR stuff.
I think I just outgrew the need for it personally.
New models are shown on the internet in detail, instead of reading battle reports I got enough models to play myself. There are excellent lore / story videos and podcasts available on Youtube and other media.
Last one I got in years was the video game one, but that was an exception.
I don't buy it regularly.
I feel they are trying to vaguely get back to when it was fun to read as a magazine in itself (20ish years back) but its still some distance away.
Its better than 5-10~ years ago when I felt it became essentially a badly organised sales catalogue but yeah, still lacks something. I think they need more editorial freedom - because yes, as it stands it tends to just be "Warhammer Community the Magazine". Which as you say is a bit redundant.
I don't subscribe to WD but whenever I see one I grab it. Phil Kelly's mortal realms dictionaries are really good for getting a handle on the background of AoS. I like galactic battlegrounds where they show how to represent different warzones for armies. Indexes are pretty nest. My favourite thing recently has been the stories of a mysterious dwarf with a white beard wandering the mortal realms helping the many scattered duardin.
So basically the mag is focusing on AOSatm ? Makes sense because AOS has a lot more releases (as it should, it is more "in the making" than 40k). I haven't bought one in ages, last two I purchases had next to nothing in terms of content. I only play 40kbtw, no AOS (at least not yet)

Nah its fairly evenly balanced mostly because the release schedule flips between the two brands quite rapidly. There's constant features for 40k, AoS, Underworlds and then the specialist games sometimes get a slot.
I stopped buying White Dwarf when I realized that I was never actually reading fully through each $9 issue that I bought. Everything in the magazine, or almost everything, is available online as well.
I stopped when I realized the content I actually cared about didn't last long enough for a decent sit-down transaction. Left me reading a shampoo bottle...
"Holy Sh*&, you've opened my eyes and changed my mind about this topic, thanks Dakka OT!"
I stopped buying it when the Fat Bloke era ended.
For a long time Index Astartes articles were my only way of experiencing 40k besides occasional novel.
After that I only bought a few. I bought one in 2006 and it was horrible, in recent years I bought the Space Marine anniversary one and the one with interview with John Blanche.

About the only time I buy them, is if there is a series of rules for a game that I play e.g. the new/beta version of 9th edition maelstorm missions or some necromunda rules etc.
Semi-regularly, I don't have a subscription but I pick it up when I'm in the mood for a magazine and I've read the Wargames Illustrated and Wargames: Soldiers and Strategy for that month.
Got the yearly subscription. I prefer hard copies and I enjoy the articles and photos that appear in the magazine. I’ve also been pleasantly surprised by add on content in the last year.
I used to love white-dwarf as a kid, back when it was only 5 dollars to buy off the rack. I remember the price quickly went from 4.99 to like 14.99 in an insane quickness.
7 Ork facts people always get wrong: Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other. A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot. Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests. Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why. Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor. Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers. Orks do not have the power of believe.
Depends what an issue features and sadly its not often it has something I'd be interested in, although I will keep an eye out on Community for a good issue.
Truly the best White Dwarf era in my opinion. All hail the Fat Bloke!
I actually subscribed when I got wind they were going to do a "Tale of 4 Warlords" series for 40k. The nostalgia got me frankly. That said, I actually have enjoyed that series so far. The Fallen Index not withstanding, I feel like it's better than it's been in ages. It's still got a TON of room for improvement, but ever since they killed the abomination that was the weekly WD and went back to a proper format, IMO, it's never been better.
I also enjoy some of the more fun rules. For example, my marine Chapter is built to be Red Hunters. I don't think we'll ever see rules for them again, but I've enjoyed using the Exorcist rules. Personally, while it's a good codex, I don't like the way my new DG play, and the Excorcists give me that old DG feeling I enjoyed.
Honestly though, it's not what it was. The battle reports are bad. No real detail, no real depth. Some of the painting articles are ok, but I miss the days when you would see articles like "Hey - in this series we're going to detail the scratch building of Lizardmen terrain pieces over the course of several lunch breaks", or the 2nd ed "We just wanted to have a battle with EVERY SINGLE Space Marine tank we had in the studio", or the batrep where Fat Bloke's white scars faced off against someone's CSM on the studio's new "Trench Warfare Board"(an amazing board that we would never see again after that).
Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug
Psiensis on the "good old days":
"Kids these days...
... I invented the 6th Ed meta back in 3rd ed.
Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

I've started buying monthly again specifically for the Flashpoint stuff, especially now that we get both AoS and 40K now.
